Sporadic Nothings

Annoying brother can't drop explaining,
Fun game helpfully inspiring jokes,
King lends more notice offering people questions,
Reality sets truth,
Understanding varies,
Waning xiz,
Yielding zilch.

Premium MemberA Face for Comedy

An eager youth, she had me hypnotized.
To my love to be, a rose, I gifted.
She looked at me and laughed, "You must be daft",
That lovely girl then helpfully advised,
"You've not a face for love, but comedy".
I suppose, I should not have been surprised.
Years hence, I returned with love poetry,
My mug, carefully concealed and disguised.
Giggling, to see me, my mask she lifted.
"You must be daft", she looked at me and laughed,
"Funny looks, poetry to be despised!"

My Views Give Some News

People will tell their views

Confusion, they produce

To guide, they may refuse

To worry, instead induce

Advising, they ever choose

The don't helpfully muse

Tension, they finely infuse

They will expertly accuse

Our peace, they reduce

By denying our dues

So, have no blues

I have given some clues

Though God rescues

Our wisdom if is loose

We surely then lose

If truth we don't abuse

Our peace accrues.

Premium MemberLearning

I’m learning a lot, dating Peter. For instance, I have a whole new awareness of how clueless older Americans, like people in their mid-twenties, are about things in the modern world.

I think Peter’s learning things too. Like the other night, I was 30 minutes late because I was gluing little, glittering rhinestones to my eyebrows. Was he mad? Yes, we had a little drama, but that’s just because he hasn’t learned to respect my lifestyle choices.

“Don’t be mawkish Peter,” I softly advised him, while fixing the caller of his shirt, “look, let's just pretend that we squabbled over this, and I won?” I suggested, helpfully. “It’ll save us time and WOW, we’re running late, OK? Seeing some small, lingering irritation, I promised, “We can still makeup later.”

The rhinestones looked spectacular, I got a LOT of compliments and in the end, I think he liked them. You know, sometimes I’ll catch him looking at me, like the moon or something, like I’m out of reach.

Guys are so.. (Searching for a word).

mawkish = exaggeratedly or childishly over-emotional.

Premium MemberTypes of Love

“Have you ever been in love?” He asked.

“Ugh,” I groaned. “I love tech,” I revealed, “oh, and the Internet,” I confessed, “I LOVE the Internet!”

He looked disappointed. “You know what I mean,” he said.

I sighed. It’s hard to escape the long shadows cast by experiences and expectations.

“Love’s inscrutable!” I said, helpfully.

“Maybe I’ve never been in a relationship long enough for it to be love?” I asked the universe.

He tilted his head as if he were calculating something.

“What IS love anyway?” I asked. “Does love have to be an instant transcendence?”

“This isn’t going well”, I thought, his silence stood out like a curse in a cathedral.

“Let’s go to Dairy Queen!” I suggested, because that ALWAYS makes things better.

“I need an ice cream,” I said, as he looked ready to say something but didn't, “cake.” I finished.

Write To Give Delight

Write and you continue to write
So long as you are breathing
Give to each and everyone delight
By saying something very soothing

Write everywhere with great might
Give your best to heal all souls
Writing is your noble birthright
Let pacifying all be in your goals

Write to reach a great height
And make all live here peacefully
Remove from heart Worries' weight
And live on this Earth helpfully

Write always in both day and night
Open minds to pour in them wisdom
In writing, real bliss, try to sight
Before reaching the Almighty's Kingdom

Write to make others' mood damn bright
And give solace to make all live happily
Let your write show to the World light
Write with great glee is my only plea.

A Body In a Coat

Still grotesquely afloat
Belly ready to bloat
His last meal A Milked Oat
And then hard rowed a boat
But with a shot was downed
And the next thing was drowned!

His harsh look watchers note
And at it his foes gloat
And ample time devote
The perplexed by A Quote
He could not learn by rote …

Nor read what scholars wrote.

Rather in love with oat
And enthused about coat …

Now, helpfully The Drowned
For Book-free underground.

Premium MemberStuck In Another Chimney

Santa Claus did not dare yell, wiggle, move or shout.
Kicking his feet over and over in convoluted pain.
Reindeer heard and ran in to helpfully pull him out.
Now he carries glass cutters to open a client’s window pane.

Premium MemberI Always Say Yes

They came in wild, two little boys, excited to be here.
I am the school counselor, many try to get in.
I accept all who ask and try to every time they ask.
One has asked to have lunch with me several days in a row.

I always say okay, and today I said, “bring a friend”.
He has no sense of direction; he got lost trying to find the cafeteria.
I was surprised, but helpfully helped him find his friend.
They came back all bouncy and happy, excited to play with me.

I had to remind the main child to eat; he was enthusiastic!
He said, “we are wild and crazy guys”.
The other child laughed with glee about that.
They are going to be friends when they are twenty-one.

They are building a base.
I asked if this was an army base.
They thought this was hilarious.
A base to sit and watch tv and stuff.

I hated to see them go back to class.
They were having a delightful time.
I had never seen either of them smile this much.
I am grateful today that I always say yes, remembering why.

Advice and a Warning

ADVICE AND A WARNING

Sent for the plumber and repair guy (very able).
Leakage behind the plaque on the wall near the judge’s table.
He fixed it and helpfully rearranged the plaque
To warn future repairers who come back.

          IN GOD WE TRUST

          Was rearranged to say

          IN GOD WET RUST

The Polar Vortex

I check the weather on my phone
Before I head outside.
My jacket choices such a glance
Does helpfully provide.

For weeks, my trusty fleece it’s been,
With turtleneck below,
A sweatshirt sometimes added
If the wind’s supposed to blow.

Today, though, temps were hovering
At thirty-eight degrees
So if I dressed like always
I believed I might just freeze.

Some Arctic air has come to town,
Unusual for May.
The Polar Vortex, as it’s called,
Makes flowers droop and sway.

My woolen cape came out to help
Me on my walking task.
I wonder if it recognized me
From behind my mask.

Premium MemberColor Me Happy

Color my day magical, paint my day lavender.
Throw in some glitter, some glitz and some fun.
A day with good friends, who laugh at the right times,
Who know when to hug, and know when you need to cry,
Staying silent, standing helpfully, lovingly by.

Color my day joyful, and enthusiastically prancy.
I know my friends are coming, so I am feeling quite dancy.
Color my day exciting, color my day glittery with acrylics and neon.
Paint it in fun, wholesome and spectacularly freeing and fine.

Color my day.
Paint it lavishly with oranges and purples.
Throw in plenty of pink, of the hottest and happiest hue.
Color my day magical.
Color it marvelous.
Color it wonderful.

Here are my friends.
Let’s paint them,
But save some of the color
For me, as I want to be as magical
As possible. Rainbow me up. Be daring and wild.
You cannot hurt me; I am a rainy-day child.

An Ideal Father

An Ideal Father
Dr. James E. Martin
©June, 2014

Faithful to lead as God directs,
	Fearful if failure God detects.
Alert to danger along the way,
Attentive to rightly God’s will obey.
Tearful if children go astray,
Thankful if in god’s way they stay.
Heartily encouraging through every trial,
	Helpfully teaching all the while.
Eager in his duties to advance,
	Engaged in righteous, faithful stance.
Reaching out to those in need,
	Rightly dispensing God’s life-giving seed.
