An eager youth, she had me hypnotized.
To my love to be, a rose, I gifted.
She looked at me and laughed, "You must be daft",
That lovely girl then helpfully advised,
"You've not a face for love, but comedy".
I suppose, I should not have been surprised.
Years hence, I returned with love poetry,
My mug, carefully concealed and disguised.
Giggling, to see me, my mask she lifted.
"You must be daft", she looked at me and laughed,
"Funny looks, poetry to be despised!"
