Premium Memberdelightful Sheila

Sheila was so delightfully cute her daddy had ideas for Halloween
He thought she would be an adorable pirate, super hero, or queen
She wanted to be a mummy which disappointed him a lot.
A mummy is not very cute, he said to the determined tot.

But Sheila had her way, because she is a forceful girl. quite strong.
Her daddy had to admit when he saw her, that he had been wrong.
For Sheila is so cutesy petootsie, wonderfully adorable and all.
Even as a mummy, she looked gorgeous, for she is a doll.

Premium MemberThirty Cute Bats

the front of that book said thirty cute bats
Cute bats! What about a bat would be cute?
I shuddered a little at the thought.
Then I looked at the artwork.that accompanied that cover
It was a darling stained glass bat
A bat dressed to the eleven’s.in purple, turquoise and oranges.
I had never seen such a bat!
A cartoonist myself, I had to open the book a whisker.
I found myself staring at some mighty cute bats.
some in stained glass, others on t-shirts or in jewelry.
Many of these bats I had to have!
The book was a cataog, and it cost a mere $28.99.
First impression was now out the window
I bought the book and ordered some of these cute bats

Premium MemberHalloween Decorations

I like to walk my neighborhood
looking at all the scary decorations
giant skeletons with red eyes glowing
ghosts, headstones, witches and ugly creatures
but sometimes where is something cute
like pumpkins on a lawn and on top sits a black kitten
cat

Premium MemberCosmic Planet Pumpkin on Halloween

Orange pumpkins glow so cute
Making children smile in spacesuits
Halloween pumpkins filled with candy
A cosmic stash, so handy-dandy

Each planetary pumpkin has a special face
That beams like stars in aerospace
Each one has a candle inside
Its galactic shimmer is big and wide-eyed

The nose is shaped like a triangle
Without airlocks to be entangled
The mouth may curve in spooky shapes
From every smile, light escapes

A dreamscape shines for starry-eyed kids
Enchanted by secrets the Cosmos forbids.

Cute ghosties and witches are seen And monsters are part of this scene Here it’s called ‘Hop Tu Naa’ It’s quite easy to say We never say it’s Halloween! Each Thanksgiving I eat beef jerky Thus saving the life of a turkey Someone killed that poor cow So I’m sobbing hard now And moving to vegan Las Kerky!

Premium MemberTrick or Treating at Archie Bunkers house Inspired by Lin Lane

Trick or Treat, "Edith get the door," yells Archie!!
"Oh Archie they are so cute come and look Please."
"Shut up Edith just give them their stupid candy, will ya?"
" I'm not dealing with Meathead, you, and these brats all night, Na"
" Edith don't give Snickers bars, they're my favs, are you crazy?"

Michael Tor
Inspired by Lin Lane
Archie Bunker was
a rude SOB he starred
in a sitcom called All
In The Family. He had
no manners and
treated his wife Edith
like she was dumb,
but Edith was smarter
than him...

Premium MemberAt the Pump On Halloween

The clown, yes, a clown, she did stop for gas. Surprised, yes, I was. I saw her through glass. With sparkle of hues, And squeak of her shoes, The clown, yes, a clown, did step out for gas.

Premium MemberOur Halloween Devil Cat

Some years ago, on Halloween,
Surprised, as we came on the scene;
      Our grand-kitty, cute-
      In a devil suit-
Did look a bit angry and mean!

The kids put him in this costume;
He seemed okay, but showing gloom.
      Annoyance on face-
      We gave him some space
Left him on the carpet to fume!

With glare in his staring green eyes
He let us enjoy our surprise!
      Stayed still, played the part-
      God bless his sweet heart!
Let Halloween fun be our prize!

Bats and snakes, make no mistakes
                                 This girl loves them all
Spider fashion is her passion
                               Set by things that crawl

Of the dead, a skull is said
                                  To captivate her mind
Ravens black to wrap her back
                                 This shirt, she will find

Halloween will make the scene
                                    Each day of the year
Lizards glee her Christmas tree
                                     This girl has no fear

Bats and snakes her fancy takes
                   While dancing through the night
Mistress Dark, one may remark
                                Or just a different light

Premium MemberHalloween Will Never Be the Same Again

I longed to hear cute costumed kids
say “Trick or Treat!” that chilly night.
To give each one a goody bag
would make me smile with pure delight.

Because of Covid, few came by.
My little Bandit’s friendly bark
and wagging tail delighted all~~
but then the evening lost its spark.

When all kids left, a red-eyed “ghoul”
appeared. My puppy whined and fled.
I froze. Then on November 1
I woke up screaming in my bed.

My pup—not black, but solid white—
was back. My hair was snow-white too.
When I tell others what transpired,
they think I’m bonkers. Well, don’t YOU?!

Premium MemberHideous Creature

The leaves of red and yellow are falling, in the trees the wind is sobbing; and on doors Halloween kids are knocking, a trick or treat they are wanting ! Little kids costumes are cute and darling, but older kids are frightening; some so real that I am left wondering, could they be the real thing asking ! One hideous creature moved like lightning, as I turned and started running; then, the creature was whispering- kissing, and my frantic screams silencing ! _______________________ October 16, 2021 Poetry/Monorhyme/Hideous Creature Copyright Protected, ID 10-1397-891-16 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest, Halloween Monorhyme sponsor, Caren Krutsinger, Judged 11/9/2021

Will cute, costumed kids come for candy?
In case, I’ll have loads of sweets handy.
Wee ones might stay home;
still, big ones will roam
T-P-ing* yards. Clean-up's NOT dandy!

*Toilet papering (also called TP-ing), is the act of covering an object, such
as a tree, house, another structure, a yard, etc., with toilet paper. Another
term for this is “yard-rolling.”
