The autumn wind of fourteen-
ninety- nine
Blew over Basel in a crisp, sharp
line,
Where Swabian battles found their
silent close,
And from the ash, a sovereign
peace arose.
On twenty-second days of that
September chill,
The ink was dried, the clashing
swords were still.
The Holy Empire loosed its ancient
hold,
As Swiss resolve was etched in lines
of gold.
The treaties signed, the mountain
cantons free,
To chart their course of armed
neutrality.
While far away, across the shifting
deep,
Old empires woke from centuries of
sleep.
The month drew closed, the
modern world awake,
With every bond the Swiss had
dared to break.
A second half of autumn, fierce and
grand,
That drew the borders of a fearless
land.

Life Grants No Do Overs

I’ve heard “Life is quick so make it count,”
so that near it’s finish there’s no regrets.
Though your importance isn’t paramount,
to some you’re the sun that rises and sets.
We should endeavor each day to do our best,
and from hurting others, we must refrain.
For our earthly clock is merely God’s test,
there’s a Hell to shun and Heaven to gain.
Remember, all will sin and come up short,
seek forgiveness for things that are daunting.
Don’t be found guilty in judgment’s court,
*weighed in the balance and found wanting.

TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
A sudden burden of flipping turns him into a fraction /
Action of correction in your cranium needs traction /
Bad habits all erratic need retracted to leave the bad flabbergasted /
Dad’s had it with blabber half gassed /
Mom’s at fits with the sadder last cast /
It’s time to rebuild your gasket close the guilt and accept that past /
With loss of balance he’ll tilt a step and the other he’ll sway /
No scoffs as God grants built pep for him to innovate and crave /
Show restraints in that trot trance and let go to win a place /
Hope remains and trains to not dance against fate /
Cope complaints and aims of the banes with faith to renovate their games /
Don’t sift pains just cuff and cell those demons away for gains /
Life rift and experience creates a hell of a wince and some grimace /
But with the premise immense like an overwhelming radiance /
Lift a new obedience followed by some grievance /
Don’t review old rants allow width to come into your presence /
Father lends many ladies and gents new grief vents or pressed sense /
Plenty a second chance as a new ordinance /
Such reverence protects and proves an alliance with resurgence

marked by everlasting life, indeed bright
for faith’s limitless deeds against pride blight...
