VOICES

I was sitting near the shore,
listening to the waves.
The blue and the night sky spoke to me like never before.

Their distant voices became dull—
something inside me twirled.
The sound of the waves
was just like the voices, long forgotten.

Sand burned my feet,
memories rushed back.
While I kept ignoring it,
the pain slowly, painfully crept back.

The voice—now more clear.
I could hear the chatters, the laughter.
Tears brimmed in my eyes,
as the burning grew more intense.

A hand on my shoulder
slammed me back to the world.
The voice now long gone,
but the stars glimmered brighter than before.

Premium MemberStormy Seas

Occasionally the weather forecast can be of help: by poet

Does the sky and the sea have a mind of their own?
It was a tranquil day. I started the motor
Of my boat and headed out in the bay.

Suddenly all changed.
Sky became overcast and heavy.
The sea became restless.
Gulls squawked above me in derision.
My heart felt sick.

Waves pounded my fragile boat.
Would it take long to reach a haven?
I pointed my boat toward the bay.
At least, the motor worked.

Alas I was no great sailor.
The waves were against me.
I found myself in the sea.
Good thing I was a strong swimmer,
And the beach was very nearby.

I dragged myself up but nearly fainted.
Emily came up with a bottle of water.
She knelt near me and lifted my face on her lap
And washed the sand away and made me drink.
The rain was now only a drizzle.

I sat up and looked at her face.
Her eyes glimmered. Her luscious lips half open.
Impulsively I kissed her hard, our lips burning.
Instantly “The clouds parted like the pursed lips of desire".

Premium MemberEchoes of the Silent Shore

"Hush your crashing," whispered the moon to the sea,
as the sound slowly faded from the mermaid's laughter.
Luna heard only echoes on the shore, a silent symphony
that had been ebbing across the sea, perhaps hereafter.

Often, when moonlight glimmered its soft celestial light,
she would allow me a brief glimpse of her golden hair.
It rivaled the glow of stars in the sky's ebon night,
but no longer is she here, swimming in shallows there.

Her dulcet voice was as lovely as any seraphic hymn
How I longed for the possibility of getting closer to her,
but I feared she'd be frightened if I went for a swim.
So, I gave up on that desire, thinking it best to demur.

The shoreline has become desolately quiet and bleak.
No longer does the mermaid ride upon a wave's curls.
No songs from the mermaid, whose vision I now seek.
No sighting of her tresses, nor her necklace of pearls.

Ode from Yesterday

There is a place beyond the night
Where vision does not pierce,
Where lies the look of muddlement
That shackles without force.

I’ve spent some time in looking
For a blur I will not see,
Yet lingers on the morning’s dawn -
There veiled by glimmered sea.

Will I see the fog encroaching,
Or feel it in my bones?
Will I know enough to seek myself,
In turning over stones?

I’m most afraid of losing touch
With purpose and its bliss.
Will it matter, having shared ahead,
In telling who wrote this?

Premium MemberSea of Roses

A sea of roses graced the local park
Swaying to the sweet singing of a lark
Sensual ambience those roses made
Supported by stems of majestic jade.

The roses danced like waves upon the sea
To gentle wind caressing them softly
Enjoying the motion, most daintily
Back and forth, side to side elegantly.

Sunlight glimmered o’er their rosy faces
As they performed with delightful graces
To an audience that was mesmerised
By the scene being played before their eyes.

Roses of every colour one can name
Petals owning their unique claim to fame
Roses, the epitome of romance
Inciting hearts to race and feet to dance.

Every rose has its own special splendour
That is, that was and will be for ever
A sea of roses waving on the breeze
Is a stupendous sight that's sure to please.

The Journey Within

A battlefield of delusion
A victim in the walls of her own conclusion

Smothered by the tapestry of threading thoughts
The guilt lurking, persistent knots

Blind to the bright and forgiving revive
She descends into the depths of another disguise

A breath like suffocation
This powerful realm of obsession

The worn pages flip one by one
Her vision scattered before the setting sun

A burning flame that simmered
A dimming radiance in her eyes that once glimmered

                  Looking into pastimes with dreams,
                  Coming, clockwise rainbow schemes.
                  Needed joyful, graceful, dancers,
                  Floating paintings, awesome answers.

                  Pastimes, precious, moonbeam’s glow,
                  On glimmered, sparkling winter snow.
                  Nature’s glory, from heavenly hands,
                  Grateful living, sweet freedom’s land.

Her Road I Did Not Take

Her road I did not take, through woods of gold,
Where birches bend and secrets old unfold.
The sunlit path that glimmered in her eyes,
Led far from where my lonesome journey lies.
A singing bird , a call I could not hear,
For fear of shadows in my heart, indeed.
Her voice, a melody among the trees,
Yet I walked on, ignoring gentle pleas.
She wandered where the wildflowers yellow bloom so bright,
While I chose trails that vanished in the night.
The echoes of her laughter haunt the air,
A song of love, of dreams I could not share.
Now, in the dusk, I see her distant light,
A road I did not take fades out of sight.
And still, her fragrance lingers on the leaves.
Her road I did not take,
Under autumn's golden gaze,
Silent paths that memories make,
No longer there to take.

My Symphonious Serendipity

I have been eclipsed
with silent spaces of black holes,
I was a numb night
who only befriended melancholy.
My lost soul glimmered softly
with your moonlit touch,
as I follow the trail of stars in your eyes now.
Drifting in dreams with you somewhere far,
our hands are never an inch apart.
Hide and seek of eternity and always
in our love keeps me breathing.
Oh my symphonious serendipity,
when your poetry held me with love,
the storms in my soul met shores of serenity.
Every sigh serenades
a cosmic connection of centuries old,
your overpowering affection
reflects rosy rhapsodies in my glass eyes.
Every day my sky waits for your radiance,
my sun and my moon shine in you only.

NEAT

And Maricel was her sweet name
The first maiden who charmed my heart
In sixth grade then, when we were young
Her sweet smile glimmered like the sun

In place named after rice fields
We had some exchange of sweet smiles
Her sweet glance, I could not forget
Her charm then that could go for miles

But then, I wandered faraway
And years have passed, she was taken
And so my heart was taken too
And went through shades of gray and blue

And in this place, I came back
Cherishing days of puppy love
I still wish that one true love
Will fall to me in struck of luck

For M. C. (Her maiden initial, 7-6)

*NEAT stands for National Elementary Achievement Test, where we first met in the place named after rice fields in 6th grade*

FROLIC FLUSH

On dusky evening you appeared unexpected . I offered you posy of lily shining in crimson glaze of my mind , instantly plucked from garden. That was the first and last chance to express my love.
Our lingering urge melted in ebullient mutual crave. Romantic glow of your
emerald eyes shimmered , glimmered in placid blinks. Glory of your
amorous glance reflected to get reciprocated, resounded through my looks.
Me flooded in frolic flush of my feelings. I soared high above seven heavens. I felt tender touch of your fingers while you took blossoms from my hesitant hand. Ardent ardour of that pearly passion transmitted tremor in lust.
I yearned for capturing that auspicious moment crossing boundary of space time. I prayed to float ever and ever making pause on time flow.
I wished to continue time - bound happenstances on extension ignoring
restriction of reality which is also relative.

This Worldly Light

The earth is beaten hard by working boots
and baked by scorching sun in early spring
that cracked like drying skin with calloused corns.
As weeds are forked, entwined around the gate,
I prised the tendrils, pulling out their roots,
then ambered skies descended nightly slopes
and gilt the rusted rails with golden tones.

Above the crescent moon released aglow
a halo, loosely hung beyond the dark
with thorns entwined like spiral crowns in style.
A shaded figure stood. He seemed alone
but knocked for entry easing doors ajar.

Ahead a whitened path through shadows wove
a way that glimmered brightly, moonlight drenched.

Foreshore Melody By Er Haider Khan

A butterfly's flight,
Lost in the foreshore of the night;
With tears in her eyes,
She hung from the trees and cried.

Her gaze met mine,
And in that moment, we intertwined;
With the moonlight as our guide,
She sang and spread her wings wide.

She fell from the trees,
Onto the water, as gentle as a breeze;
It seemed she had lived for eons,
As her wings glimmered like precious stones.

I touched them with grace,
And in that touch, I found my place;
For in the foreshore of the night,
Her peace and melody took flight.

As the night draws to a close,
And the shelter of dreams fades and goes;
The touch of her wings,
And the tranquility in her sings.

Forever in my soul,
Without fail, her beauty unfolds.

We met in our enlighten yesterdays
when love was imagined
and we wanted to embrace the breadth of each kiss
fused upon our lips
like the first guzzle of water from a dying thirst

we garbed our hearts in comfort
and unearthed the brambles of our lives
that lay along the road as we journeyed forward
two travelers trying to bind the bonds of love's beauty

poems were written
and music from our heartbeats
soothed our souls in contentment
shining from the glowing romantic pearls of sensuality

we roamed to our farthest imaginations
watched the twilight sunsets
and stood on the edge of tomorrow
counting stars that glimmered and glowed

we spoke the language of love
with a tongue's fire that burned
in the sanctuary of our passion
where we crossed the blissful boundary of belief
and found the heart's blooming lotus
cultivated on our journey of magical marvel

Premium MemberThe Raining

Looking out across the way
A single street light's
yellow cone of bright
   cuts the lonely
   black of night
Holding within its angled gold
   a wall of water
raining rain
        raining down.

Rain
so dense as to appear
   a solid glimmered sheet
catching light to shimmer-gleam
like precious stones congealed.

Yet spaces be there, yes,
between each raindrop driving down,
each one a lonely drop of wet
   a diamond set alone.

So as with the raindrops,
   spaces
   surely be
between my heart
and yours.

And yet for me
   no span at all,
   no slivered hollow
   nor edging crack,
between my heart
and yours.
