Premium MemberIN LIFE'S BALL GAME

Don't be a football,
Thrown and kicked down the field
Like rocks of nature;
Rather, be a bouncing ball
Sowing and reaping life's goals

Premium MemberFREE

Playing football with boys in the street
Before training bras and high heels on my feet
I was a tomboy when it was cool to be
A Carolina girl born wild and free

Free to play ball
Free to be lost
In the hood, in the woods
With my shoes off

Free to have friends
Free to say Amen
Free to be me
Chasing the white wind

Never was one to avoid sun
If I wasn’t a girl I’d be the favorite son
Fighting like a tiger punched him in the lips
Because that dude hit me on my hips

Hand over heart swearing to God
That one day I’ll be a super star
Settling into my humble destiny
Loving my life I’m born to be free

Free to play ball
Free to be lost
In the hood, in the woods
With my shoes off

Carolina Girl
Not yet 13
In a black and white world
Born to be free

Premium MemberIn the Sixties

In the sixties I went to university
    where I experienced much diversity

  For example, among fraternities
    mine went from ‘Kegs-a-Tappin’
    to ‘Pills-a-Poppin’
     ~ LSD, we were a-droppin’

Athletics were a big deal too
freshman year we were football champs
senior year, listened to Led Zeppelin’s mega-amps

Then there was good old politickin’
After Kent State life was great
Semester cancelled, May 14 the date…
To let us work for our 'favorite candidate'
Mine wore 6-inch heels, raised my pulse rate…

Oh, I learned a whole lot in school
~ mostly, how to break the rules

A short stout figure in the forward line of attack,
controlled with skill the darting ball on the green turf.
With the magnetic pair of magical legs like a wizard,
spearheaded the attacking formation across the field.

The opponent defenders had to invent new strategies
to foil his rhythmic moves with the ball toward goalpost,
he could make lyrical way outwitting all their attempts
to see the ball like lightning hit the net behind the bars.

The shining star of his country’s illustrious football team,
he led from the front to win many major tournaments.
A legend in his life time, he was the pride of Argentina,
the creator of poetry in motion, he was Maradona.

Premium MemberShifting Goalpost

In the youthful years enamored to the essence
for the unsupressible passion for playing football,
I spent the quality time in the playground
every awaited evening till the sundown.

Having set my aspiring goal to become
a professional football player of national repute,
I practiced hard year after year,
but my destiny rolled a different dice.

In one game carelessly I broke my leg,
an injury from which I could never recover
to return to the playground as an avid player,
that’s how my sporting dream broke forever.

On the tract of time I played instead
the relentless games of life as ordained.
Some I won, but many I lost
in the playground of shifting goalpost.

Premium MemberBye-Bye, Football

Friday night football lights
His whole life high school sports
A rah-rah father behind him
  Overflowing his shorts

Covid-19 postponed many dreams
And left an opening, it seems
For other interests to develop
No longer by sports was the lad enveloped

When football was cancelled
The young man found a new love
Electrical engineering his fascination
And so, he decided, his future occupatin

Now football is back, but not the young man
He's busy studying engineering while he can
As for his stubborn father, he's going to court
To sue the school district ~ a day late; a dollar short

Premium MemberThe French Don'T Give A

a total news blackout
but anyone would be the same
the public never knew of it
did it matter?
they were doomed
from the start
my mate didn't care
about the FA Cup last week
the germans don't
care about the percieved
or actually non-existent
football rivalry with England
sweep the battle losses
under the steamer rug
if you win a tin cup
you'll refer to with pride
it took me a day and a
half to get over Nelson's
death
(stick the kettle on)
but that's when it came to life
Villeneuve an outstanding
time bomb
THE ENEMY IS AT SEA!
Trafalgar
like all historical events
momentous and noteworthy
immaterial and beside the point

Premium MemberA Legend of Football

A short stout figure in the forward line of attack,
dribbled with the darting ball on the green turf.
With the magnetic pair of fleeting legs like a wizard,
spearheaded the formidable formation of the team.

The opponent defenders had to invent new strategy
to thwart your crafty moves leading to the goalpost,
but you could make your way foiling all their attempts
to see the ball flash and hit the net behind the bars.

You were the backbone of your country’s team of fame,
that you led to winning many prestigious tournaments.
A legend in life time, you were the pride of Argentina,
in the history of football you’ll live forever, Maradona.

Premium MemberLeatherhead

I’ve always had a bit of a linebacker mindset in spite all the poetic pretense. In another life, I suppose I would have made a living ripping the heads off of sissy quarterbacks. I’ve always fancied myself charging at a problem like an angry rhinoceros.

Alas that great career never evolved. My knees and ankles had other plans. But I always think back to the best compliment I ever received. It was a friend who told me that he always visualizes me in one of those old fashion leather football helmets. I imagine I was probably being a hard head. I guess I always have been old school even though I wear a progressive’s garb.

Sometimes just smile
and take the damn compliment
it won’t come again

Premium MemberIn the Football Field of Life

In the football field of life, vastly wide We play various roles, of which we take pride By standards and rules we abide While toward victorious goal-scoring, we stride! For rejuvenation time-out moments We delight in cheerers’ encouragements Along various sponsors’ refreshments Thanking the Lord for His grace endowments! With my faith-driven championship fervor I trust God, my Coach, for wisdom’s favor Praying to Him for my service-endeavor Reaching-out triumphs* I sweetly savor!
*Psalm 25:2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. June 23, 2018

Feeding fly infested, starving mouths
Yet feed bloated egos of the affluent

Premium MemberSeahawkishness

The outlook was sanguinity, For the Seahawks on that day; Last seven of the enemy, They'd easily put away. However, from the starting kick, And through the first three quarters, The Seahawks were the sort of sick That needs Docs Without Borders. Then, when it looked to be over, And they heard the death rattle, Lucky charm and four-leaf clover, The Hawks re-joined the battle. Suddenly, the lads came to life With purpose and precision! Every play was with panache rife, To winning bomb decision!

Premium MemberBig Life Questions

What does "I love you" mean?

Why is "does" spelled that way?

Who makes the rules and by what authority?

Where is where?

and the most pernicious (in my experience)
