Zinnia,I remember you,each day
Don't ever despair,my Petunia
Or give up,precious Lily.

With sincere regards my Daffodils-
Forever...my floral friends.
Carnation and rose
flirt in accomplice conspiration

Flowers affirm my constant love for you.

vanquish my vow*...
So help me, God.

The toy box made of plywood painted white
my grandfather built for me when I was three
has become a time machine
a tool of torture
Why haven’t I burned its contents to ash
as I did all his letters full of lies?
Within I find notebooks in which I penned
my pubescent musings that seem so silly now
First attempts at poetry
that sound trite today when read
with a much more mature tongue
that has tasted the bitter brew of experience
Scribbled quotations from history’s finest minds
Sketches of dresses I designed
A crumbling corsage of carnations
still sealed inside its plastic shell
for the last twenty five years
that he pinned to my pink Victorian taffeta gown
I can close my eyes and recall
its fresh flowery scent
feel the silky petals under my fingertips
the gentle cool early autumn breeze
blowing over the river on my young supple skin
that single night of my life
when every star in the sky
seemed to be shining solely for me
I had hope then
carnation cuteness
class ceremony
graduation day
red rose redolence
lily scent countryside dew
springtime perfume cue
orchids blue bloom
valley violets, tulips hues
geraniums soothes
carnation cuteness
class ceremony
graduation day
Delicate pink rose of Sharon blossom
Lovely as a beautiful carnation
Pretty as a rose in midsummer’s nurturing dew.
I imagine smiles from heaven’s blue.
After he created the likes of you
I imagine the Good Lord felt refreshed and brand new.

or perhaps
a prosaic prothalamion
with a epithalamium
sung to greet their wedding day
in rhyming roundelay-
verse and versicle
doxology
antiphon-
in plain
song
There are carnations
I shower them all with life
so straight and so clear.
With a slight glow of early morning sunlight
a single flower-bud unfolds bright
from its green protective wrap
to serrated knap
revealing
soft pink
appealing
velvet petals of
a carnation, Mother's Love
with a fresh spicy clove-like perfume
coursing through benignly and at last, consume

Golden strands wave at me as the psithurism rings
Across the barren fields, stretching like children
Awaiting their mother’s soft caress
Of comfort and presence.
The fabric of dawn drapes vibrantly across the sky,
Bathing babbling waters in a warm glow – slowly burning a path
For the darkness to exit the midnight scape.
Such the same as the stars shine still in the sky
Congregating figures to lead the way,
The sun treks Ra’s journey each night, fighting
Battles within and underneath the surface, in which we
Rise above each new day.
Of the swaying strands of gold with which we
Pluck from the roots only to sell without price,
It is a wonder with which we still remain in the presence
Of such beauty, and yet, we continue to treat it as if it were
Nothing but grains in our hands, of which will dry out.
It is with each breath of wind in my lungs that stirs
Within a deep seeded need, for which I must
Plant and sew with my own bare hands, before
I may blossom into the carnation with which
Mothers water, so daughters may grow to be.
I took it from his grave that day...
a delicate, carnation bloom
which held a special promise that
I had no thought...the power of.
My precious Dad had passed away,
and love of God and Christian faith
embraced me with the comfort that
at home, he was in Heaven now.
And yet, so fragile I was then...
my firm belief, I questioned, asked,
Dear God, I beg of you, just please,
give me a sign that he's with You.
Eyes wet with tears, I placed it then,
at random, in a book of prose,
and there a holy poem appeared
that lifted up my heart and soul.
Its name, "The Grave," by Robert Blair...
revealed that always, life anew,
does follow us past earthly death;
eternally, our souls are kept.
My flower rests inside a book
where God’s direction was my guide.
Mid-unknown, secret pages there,
it granted promise to my prayer.

The Sun Shines on Flowers and Humans
the sun rises over the flowers and grasses shine in
beaming down rays of vitamin D heathy for plants and humans
radiant kisses embellish tulips and carnation rising
