A view of Dresden By Moonlight
 ~Johan Christian Dahl, 1839

Does Luna hold secrets,
does she hold mine;
does she hold regrets,
or to memory consign?

Steadfast she still climbs
though space and time
always keeping the rhyme
of an ancient design.

Water below reflects light
in celestial duet,
      without music
      without pain.

Get the title?
It too was broken,
twice.

It was fool’s gold,
instead.

Dr. Seuss
once wanted
to change the world,
so did we
(you and me).

He used silver,
colors,
writing,
uncomfortable
honesty,
and a tiddlywinks-
wink…
wink of humor
to white out
all the sad
problems.

Indeed.

He died before
the whiteout died.

(So did
Roald Dahl).

Culinary fascination of the World's largest nation

Glory of tandoori story or Brit palette whet reformer korma

Vindaloo or sag aloo woo you or coo crazy about jalfrezi

Gets hazy as things mesh came fresh from Bangladesh

Can’t naysay Indian takeaways most days top performer

Made for Brit eccentric never ever looked a bit authentic

Teach explore each region with its own locavore legion

Preach mountain ranges to cities and fountains changes

Neighbourhoods vocally hooked homegrown locally cooked

See wee chatty seller with natty chapati smothered in gee

Poms popadoms covered with mango glow aplomb or roti

Lentil dahl elemental or experimental flurry of curry in a hurry

Ask a fella stellar biryani actually Indian or factually Pakistani

Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka
Seemed sturdy as a *Tonka-
Yet he gave kids minty sugar blades of grass
While fizzy lifting drinks made them rise with gas!

Willy Wanka & The Chocolate Factory: Book Author: Roald Dahl.
1971 Film Screenplay: Roald Dahl and David Seltzer (uncredited).

TO CHARLIE WHO IS THE OWNER OF THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

O my dear Charlie,
How could you just forget,
Our love for chocolate,
Which was given to you as a factory.

You loved it and had magic,
To make the owner get elevated from tragic,
He was impressed and gave it to you,
And you took it as a gift from him too.

You are the boy of words,
And who flies higher than even birds,
The public now asks you to fulfill the responsibility,
Of distributing chocolates to them and bringing them stability....

- THIS POEM IS WRITTEN KEEPING IN MIND THE STORY OF CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY BY ROALD DAHL.

Emma's Wonderland

My child has a love of poetry
It is rare, for she is only nine.
In her bare mind, words are potpourri
floating, rhyming by stanza, by line.

Holding a book ever so tightly
(it relieves the raw ache in her chest),
my sweet Emma floats almost nightly
carried by puffins in a bird nest.

She paints her pictures lying in bed
dreaming up puffin activities.
Writing what's in the front of her head,
one of her common proclivities.

Her situation stems from asthma
of pet hair and seasonal rebirth.
She fancies ease from the miasma,
high above noxious coughing on earth.

Starting with nursery rhymes at three
we have read Silverstein and Dahl
both of us memorize easily.
Her choice today is Lewis Carroll.

My Emma lives in her Wonderland
especially with a nebulizer.
Her teachers all seem to understand
it's “down to earth” math that defies her.

Premium Member Beatrix Potter and Ronald Dahl

The ever clever, talented Beatrix Potter was interested in everything
She self-published The Tale of Peter Rabbit; it was met with a zing.
Her scientific interest led us to understand germination of fungus spores
Her journals written in code, deciphered by an engineer, Mr. Dores.

Beatrix was the first person to put clothes on animals in her books.
Until this time, they were much more natural in their illustrative looks.
One of her biggest fans was a young lad named Ronald Dahl.
She encouraged him to write. His books are enormous, world-tall.

Beatrix had Peter Rabbit and Squirrel Nutkin, both of them tales.
Ronald Dahl penned Charlie and the Chocolate Factory near Wales.
They are both vibrant reminders that writers can become immortal.
As I read some of their books like Matilda, I drool and I chortle.

Words On a Page

Last thing before bed
And the first upon waking,
Before he gets dressed
And finds out what's been shaking,
A book is what Henry
Is glued to as tight
As a kite-flyer clings
To the string of his kite.

Right now Harry Potter's
His evening fare.
Both Mommy and Daddy
The chapters do share;
And mornings when Nana
Is there, Roald Dahl
And his novels hold Henry
Completely in thrall.

A lifetime of stories
And reading awaits,
But rather than trust it
To chance or the fates,
Our Henry has learned
How the mind of a boy
Can, from words on a page,
Fill with journeys and joy.
