Length of days begins to wane, twilight quickens
and moonlight obeys the seasonal call of nature.
The time is half past summer, two months till fall
and the warm splayed fingers of sunlight's heat
are reaching for the zenith of their time to reign.
Soon, night will darken earlier; stars appear brighter,
and autumn's crisping days will wither crimson leaves
fluttering in swan song dances, swirling on the ground.

Rage Red

Close up,
The universe goes red
Below and overhead is the sound of thunder
And the rumbling belly of the beast down under.
Close up,
it is a blinding hue, and burning,
you shout and shiver.
Too close,
and it seems that all things
are going slowly black-
Crisping under its merciless heat.
You feel it on your face, Your fists, Your feet.
You think, ‘This is it. I am gone.’
All fades-
Then! Suddenly you wake.
The storm recedes,
and the world is ash
the earth bleeds,
and all that was green is now black.
You see it now-
Magnified horror, head bowed.
Red was you.
That hue cracking your skin-
what burned without, came from within
A battle came
and you won…
What have you done?

Premium MemberThe leaf

I saw a leaf today
in the up-draft --
one last dance
and lift before
the Fall Finale;

crisping and fading,
flaking...but only an
illusion of death, for we
know the chemistry, and
the majesty of seasons --

thinking of our shared
love, the years of affection
ever greater...would be
an unforgivable pity
if heaven
were the only
contrary….

Premium MemberThe Hints of Fall

I can hear
the wind making snowballs
fading leaves crisping
chattering acorn crazed squirrels
a soft rustle of chilled bird feathers

I can see
low hanging branches
offerings to short nibblers
the beginning blush of a Red Maple
the edge of the day creeping closer

I can feel
the excitement
of distant V’s
chittering sparrows at sunrise
scampering squirrels
school bus arrivals

the hints of fall
gently claiming its season

Premium MemberMy Zen Florida Vacation

Far away by the oceanside I sit and watch the seagulls fly
inside a pale orange sun that has yet to warm a reposing sand
Over by the boardwalk the air still hums of yesterday's feet
two youngsters feeding pelicans perched on feathered height

The smell of fried shrimp coming out of a windowless kitchen
tall glass pina colada bottles with little umbrellas inserted in
down by the ocean the burgundy traces of a latent sun arrives
as we sip slowly, and eat quietly, atop the hotel peer

Its as if it happened yesterday but I can still smell the French fries
wrapped in plaid red and white paper drenched in crisping oils
Pungent odors of chlorinated water from the pool now all gone
replaced by freshly shampooed hair, and lingering sun tan lotion

Wearing a linen white dress and my recently purchased mala beads
I feel more Zen in my pinky today then I felt in a lifetime my friend
far away by that ocean it was the perfect vacation without any fear
when I stop to think of it I hope to return there some time next year.

A Leaf

in its umber amber mellows
where sunburnt veins
stretched in parched meanders
where greens decay has bit with fangs stretch
lost in my footsteps crisping crunch
and autumns orchestra growls in
picked pockets of slips of mists
and echo hangs in moments grace

Autumn's Palette

Autumn has always awakened the artist in me
with its bold palette of crimson, umber and gold.
Ruffled russet gowns, once adorning tree limbs
lay wrinkled and scattered across the forest floor.

The Crisping Days of Autumn

Petals are withering on late blooming roses
My Summer garden is beginning to fade
Maples are shedding their last clinging leaves
Amber fields are ready for Fall's gathering

There's a faint chill wafting in the air.
I call it the crisping days of Autumn
and the first hint of a seasonal change
My pastoral view is worthy of a painting
Tomorrow, I'll sketch the visions before me
layers of bold colors as I walk down the lane.

I hear the wind traveling through bare limbs
It seems to be whistling a lively gypsy tune
A song that brings out the wanderer in me
making me quite envious of geese on wing,
honking as they quickly travel south bound.

A stag proudly stands atop the hill
reigning like a king in antlered crown
His warm breath exhaled in a clouded mist
Happy he's caught the attention of a doe.

Autumn has always awakened the artist in me
with its bold palette of crimson, umber and gold
Ruffled russet gowns, once adorning tree limbs
lay wrinkled and scattered across the forest floor

Brushes and canvas await my hand.
It's decor is a kaleidoscope of colors
From sketches I'll paint Autumnal scenes
It's a gift Nature generously offers to me.

Fantasmal Walk Back

Fantasmal Walk back into line
limes and lemons keeping time
So like crisping bacon or drinking wine
Out of the box ...can you spare a dime?
Touch me with your lust devine
Hating you!...with each new rhyme

Premium MemberAutumn and the Leaves

Autumn in the leaves
Speckling change
with crisping dew
when a season done
with green
(as earth's sky
paling blue)
putting to rest
the old
making way
for God's new;

I finger the age-spots...

other blemishes
nature's obvious rots--

preparing for
again our spring
touching the ring
I still wear
for cherish--
such vows
were never made
to perish

I rewrite, with death
we do not part

for no temporary
a true heart....

Once Again

Clutch me with the
scepter of love once again
kiss me with the lovely
kisses of thy mouth

Let our memories of love
shine in our heart luminously
like the eye of the earth let
it again burn like a bleakly flame

I will love to be a protege
under your territory once again
so I can be protected with the
wings of love you possess

I will inscribe your name
in my heart once again
so your name can ring in my heart
like the concerto of a wailing piano

Let us hide under the shade of our
shadow once again and watch the
demureness of a billowing rain
crisping down on us

Let our Fabergé egg
again be decorated with
the symbol of love, and let
our premonition come true

As long as man can breath and
As long as eyes can see and
As long as legs can walk, these
my lines must bring change to us

Premium MemberSnowdrops' Glow

Each reel of snowflake leaves behind,
fine traces of her glowing days,
a melancholy cast of mind,
while color sets the world ablaze.

Where flies a gold and opal whirl,
as the moon's lulling course disbands,
and chilly winds of winter swirl,
the hardened heart against it stands.

And yet this night contrives to hold
a promise, tinged with freshening air.
As droplets wing the crisping cold,
a glinting gem lies hidden there.

For with this frosty change, at last,
a love remains in snowdrop's glow,
whose mist will counter tattered past,
to flutter down like feathered snow.

In the Woods Camping

Tip your head and stare skyward.
The tallest firs one can see.
Small clearing for a campfire.
At the wooded edge.

Sun beams down upon the path.
Gives one last splash of color.
Forest's palette to enjoy.
Now the night sets in.

Blanket of stars,crisping air.
Stir of creatures in the dark.
Calm silence and cricket song.
Nature's symphony.

Madam Winter

Lady in white you sparkle so
wearing an elegant gown of snow.

Crisping the air in chill of night
you frost our breath in sweet daylight.

Children's laughter singing out
while seasonal holly is strewn about.

Toasty toes in woolen socks;
gifts of love in every box.

A new year bringing promise anmd hope
and skiers gliding down every slope.

You bring us shorter daylight hours
for February's hearts and flowers.

Soon we'll begin the trek to Spring;
for now we'll treasure the joy you bring.

Premium MemberAutumn Adornment

   "Autumn Adornment"

Astounding color palette fashions fragrant Fall scene
Umbrella potpourri and confetti silhouettes
Translucent leaves lie golden carpeting Season's theme
Unique designs of rainbow hues as sleeping marionettes
Marmalade branches grace heavenly heights array
Neath yellow Moon and golden Sun display.

Adornments of Autumn woven in palatial tapestry
Drifting leaves gliding on a silky velvet breeze
Ornate oasis painted by God's great majesty
Reflecting aromas of chilly air crisping through bare trees
Nuturing cool changes as shorter days embark
Mesmerized by thoughts of happy holidays
Eloquent visuals cascade as beauty invades the dark
Nurtured by the Fall feeling of gracious ways
Transcendieng throughout Autumn with adornments ablaze.
