Love wears no gold, nor seeks the crown of kings,
Yet holds dominion in a gentler way;
With whispered words and soft, unspoken things,
It takes the heart and bids it humbly to stay.

No wealth of gems or lavish silk from you is sought,
For love, in secret, makes its quiet own demands—
A stolen glance, a tender touch is

She Commands the Clouds

She tames the sky
She commands the clouds
They get their orders from her
They do as she says

Does she rule by fear?
No
Does she rule by right?
No

Why do the clouds listen?
Because she is sassy, and confident.
And she is the first person to command them.
They think it is great.

Lampstands

We in are in a time of darkness,
A season of sorrow and regret.
Like a great fish caught in a current 
Rife with unexpected, opposing tides.
All are tossed ever farther 
from lives all hoped to access. 

Striving against this typhoon of violence

Loving my studio is not enough
I have to actually go over there and pick up a paintbrush
Reminding myself who I am
Today is the day, I say, halfheartedly.
Not ready yet. 
Sticking myself back into lah lah TV land
A world that never brings satisfaction of any kind
Yet here I sit hour upon hour
Decompressing and decomposing.

The Truth Commands

Yes, I’m a Poet,
but I refuse to be conscripted

I refuse to be a victim,
my words made out of stone

I refuse to bleed my heart out,
on a page of blank simpatico

I refuse to give you weakness,
knowing strength you have disowned

Yes, I’m a Poet,
but my sword is sharp and pointed

My shield is scarred and colored
with the blood

I played out my string,
  I ran my race

My chaps are frayed,
  but spurs in place

Still one horse to ride,
