Taking a stroll through the undergrowth
Back to where you and me pledged our troth
To love each other, come rain or snow
In the forest that we both love so.
It's glorious this time of the year
When the wild flowers start to appear
And trees are proudly sprouting fresh leaves
In a dainty dance upon the breeze.
We hold hands as the undergrowth’s rough
Which causes walking to become tough
Not that we need to have an excuse
When we’re free to be out on the loose.
Upon the trees birds chirp cheerfully
Cheeping in avian harmony
Squirrels foraging undergrowth store
Nuts they have buried on days before.
We spot young bunnies taking first hops
The farmers who're preparing their crops
In the distant not too faraway
Working happily throughout their day.
So pleased that we came upon this place
To delight in nature's wondrous grace
Appreciating scenes such as this
That we were all given as a gift.

Eggshells were full of promise,
Then eggshells splitting,
Arriving chicks
Abandon shells.
All wet and limp
They sleep until
The yellow fluff of life excites.
Then cheep cheep cheeping
and peep peep peeping,
Peck pecking at seeds,
And growing, growing,
When, as hens,
They start those promises again.

I wish they made tiny earmuffs.
They never stop
Dawn to dusk
Chirping, cheeping, cawing,
Chattering in the hedges.
I root for the cat.
Not often
But on occasion
Y’know….just
Get that one.
Hey I chirp now and then
Get a bit over eager
At the feeder
Peck at an over eager squirrel.
It is called a “BIRD” feeder bozo.
It’s getting’ colder
They’re all keyed up
Going south.
I may just stay here
Nest near the dryer vent
Hope they toss out a slice of bread
Whole wheat is ok
Maybe a fistful of seed.
I hope they leave soon
I may read a book
Quietly

Pigs are snorting as they roll in the mud.
Rabbits are hopping, not afraid of Elmer Fudd.
Chickens are cheeping, the birds are trilling.
Muddy nightcrawlers are silently drilling.
Barnyard is a place of happy liveliness today.
Horse is loving her bucket of grains, oats and hay.
Farmer’s wife has sprinkled feed for the cat.
However, the cat is busy chasing a rat.
Fox did not come to the chicken coop last night.
Large rooster is strutting anyway; he is a sight.
Tiny fluffy yellow chicks are pecking away.
It is a marvelous time in the feed lot today.

Tattered from custom
slightly stained
her old apron lay in a corner
idle
Each stain
gains life
used as a mitten
for oven roasts
apple tarts
carried outside on the back-porch
to cool down
a handkerchief
to wipe off grubby faces
a solace for spoilt tears
She bundled in it
loads of black figs
juicy peaches
ripe tomatoes
legumes from the garden
fresh eggs and
sometimes
baby chicks cheeping
to our delight
It was a purse
a clothes-pegs basket
A glove around her hands
to warm them in winter
she slipped it on
each morning to protect
her clothes
and shy little me
from strangers
she only took it off
when she
slept….

Red rooster is crowing, perched on a split rail fence,
In the bloom of a rosy dawn, when all nature is tense.
In the chocolate colored trees, of the emerald leaves,
Baby bluebirds are cheeping, to the spicy warm breeze.
The flowers bob and curtsey, with many colorful cheers,
In a love affair that's endured, ages of sunlit years!
Purple shadows are drifting, the world partially awake,
And it's still a shadowy mystery, what destiny will make.
Perky squirrels are scampering, the sun is on his way,
Sweet life is beginning again, for it's a brand new day!

Baby birds cheeping in treetops high, mellow yellow,
Whippoorwills' song when even is nigh, red sunset glow,
Raucous crows in the hot noon sun, deep orange gold,
Humming bees in blazing wildflowers, dark green wold!
Seagulls' elegant glide over pounding surf, royal blue,
Crickets calling through a summer night, a black revue,
Loons hooting across transparent lake, twilight purple,
And cardinal chirps lonely songs, in pink crape myrtle!
Parrots squawk away the sunny hours, of forests green,
Nightingales sing forever and a day, white moonbeams,
Humming bird emblazons the peony bush, pretty pink,
Goldfinch trills on desert bush, as orange sun slinks!

WALKING IN MY GARDEN
When I walk through my garden late in the day
I hear the drone of a buzzing bumble bee
What wonders I see as I go on my way
And baby birds cheeping in the old oak tree
Yes, those are the wonders I hear and see

Life of a bird that swoons high above
Singing this tune of true love
Chirping and cheeping
This Love from above
Singing among the clouds
May I take your hand and hold it
As a wing holds a dove
High above the clouds
Let anger not clip these wings
Let us soar though this wind from above
Let these clouds be light and free
Singing out our love
Sit upon this branch and nest with me
Let these eggs hatch with warmth so tenderly
Tingling inside tapping, cracking and opening
This love we have created
This child from above

Shield of dispersed clouds on the sky surface
Bright sun shining at its base
Whistling leaves in the soft morning winds
Cheeping birds enjoying their flights
Curious squirrel scurrying on a house wall
Holding something big in her mouth which looked like a ball
Flapping and circling of a target searching Raven pair
Chased away by an alert, smart Northern Flicker
View of the lake from a summit
Revealing shades of blue with greenery in the surroundings
A big yellow butterfly with black spots
Hanging out with a bee on flower tops
Treasure of a pink ball found on the way by the Labrador
Contentment and bliss felt by both through earth’s simple nature..

During enduring winter rain
the small bird cheeping
his only wish of certain warmth
ducks out of the sheeting rain - each
grain aimed an icy dart poignantly
tipped with a hardening past -
into the chimney duct through
too-small a hole for use again,
tweaking his wish to certain flames,
some sorta luck, and, suddenly drained,
to sync with the rain

In the fields crops are growing
On the roof a rooster is crowing
In the yard hens are clucking
In the paddock the stallion is bucking
Near the back door baby chicks are cheeping
In the pond frogs are leaping
From the pasture donkeys bray
And the lively horses neigh
The barn cats are slowly creeping
While the farmer’s wife does housekeeping
In the barn cows are mooing
And in the rafters doves are cooing
The frisky collie barked
As the tractor is parked
In the pen the pigs grunt
Except for the cute little runt
By the pond the duck quacks
While the coon hound tracks

A series of cheeping notes
followed by chatter calls
welcoming a sunny spring morning
In the afternoon, the sky turns black
twilight of sun orange shades
heavy hail falling from the heaven
winds screaming in its gale force
Quivering feathers, wet and drenched
blanketing a monotonous chirrup
finding shelter under leaves
Arising smell of the heavenly primrose
lavenders the air dewdrops upon rose gold
In a chain of daisies warmly circles
In the sunlight of spring births
An effervescent voice cuts through
the parting dark clouds joining in
the long bubbling churrs of a song
Flower of all flowers, my garden Queen
When I pick you as my rose
Every color in you beautiful
Blooming red blushes pink crowning petals
Scepter of stellar beauty
Newborn flowers dance to the rays
Carnations shade the color of your chalice
A glance that holds a thousand in a split of a second
