Wilma was a pretty little thing.
Ed decided she would like American cheese.
So that is what he gave her as a pre-date present.
Wilma was astounded; this was the only cheese she did not eat.
Her dog loved all cheeses, so he was the recipient of this feast.
His next date was with Peggy, a girl from an Irish clan.
For some reason he pegged her as a connoisseur of cottage cheese.
Without asking her, he surprised her with a carton on their first date.
This was their last date.
Peggy would have rather had candy or flowers.
Third time is a charm, his mother told him.
She was the instigator of the cheese presents.
She hoped to keep him home the rest of his life.
He was a baby, only twenty-three. Her baby.
He had a date with a Marla, a woman from New Zealand.
She has blonde hair; blondes love cheddar cheese, his mother told him.
This time she was right, and he ran off with Marla.

Afternoon Soiree
a radiant sunflower adorned her reddish hair
while she was sitting in her hardback chair.
she asked me for a block of cheddar cheese
so, she could eat it with some ease.
I watched her slowly open up her satchel
and pull out a crystal wine glass so fragile.
she asked me for some vintage wine
I had plucked from my only grape vine.
she put her two bare feet on the pavement
found it too hot to her amazement.
she said this soiree I am quitting
to go inside and finish knitting.

Some bites are sour
Most have a bit of sweet
The crust can be flaky and flavorful
Or it can be a part of the sugar taste
Each bite is a bit of a surprise
Warmed up cherry pie, what could be better?
Add an ice-cold dollop of vanilla iced cream to mine.
My daddy eats his with a sliver of cheddar cheese on top.

The farmer said his cow was a Swiss.
Lou said "Tell me one thing, and it is this.
Does it make holes in the cheese,
Using Swiss milk, if you please?"
Farmer said, "No. But the cheddar is bliss."

Fluorescent lights hummed
a monotone drone,
In the background,
the resonant chimes and dings
of the cash register sing.
A lone moth fluttered
past my empty dome
Light, purposeless,
similar to myself.
Glassy eyes wandered back,
staring deep into the infinite
assembly line I could not help
but lose myself in.
Neon nectars beckoned me
like a sugary siren,
I was a drunken sailor
to their decadent call.
I lost and found myself,
aisle after aisle
Until a warmth, a glow,
near divine, graced me.
A fresh soft pretzel
beckoned me to my very soul,
Golden yeast skin
cheddar cheese veins,
The savior I needed
to feel at ease again.

Imagine diving into a pool of broccoli
Oh the aroma and sensation
And then perhaps
A river of cheddar cheese
Emptying into the pool
Oh what a delight
I can smell and taste the experience
And then maybe a wooden fork
To start shoving all the broccoli
Down one’s throat
Oh the beautifulness
But don’t choke
Slowly enjoy the broccoli
Maybe rain will come
Showering with a vodka sauce
I just love my broccoli

Dagwood Bumstead
Probably has been in the company of broccoli
We know that he and Blondie like to Eat
Tarzan most likely has been in the company of broccoli
Especially in the Jungle, everything grows there
Batman and Robin eat on the down low, they have probably seen a little cold broccoli when fighting Mr. Freeze
the cast of Archie Bunker often eats on the show
Do they love broccoli?
I do not know
Ask Meathead when you see him
I want to know who reading this adores broccoli
You can eat broccoli, so many different ways,
Broccoli likes to float in cheddar cheese soup it seems
Has anyone ever put barbecue sauce on broccoli?
How about deep fried breaded broccoli
Then dipping it in a bowl of barbecue sauce
Wouldn’t that be fantastic?
And so healthy!
I have on occasion eaten barbecue ribs
Made for me by the local Asian market place
Delicious
Is a barbecue rib the same thing as breaded deep fried broccoli covered in barbecue sauce?
No, I don’t think so
Because I just invented breaded, deep-fried, barbecue broccoli
Wow, doesn’t that read as deliciousness !?!

Sunflowers,
cheddar-cheese petals
surrounding seedy-brown-mustard centers,
stand guard over hot summer pavement
like mighty oaks.
Laughing children
run in and out the yellow forest,
slaying dragons,
rescuing damsels in distress,
then pretending to be astronauts
sailing across space
to a planet inhabited
by tall, green stalk-like aliens
with golden helmets.
Did van Gogh imagine such things
as he painted so many saffron blooms?
Did their sunny dispositions
have any effect on him?
Did he really love those festive flowers?
Look for answers in the pensive starry night.

*** DRAWING YOUR DAY ***
Well, wake me, then, before it’s
Time to sleep, so I may eat
Some bites of cheddar cheese
(A delicious catalyst for lively dreams);
And,too, tell me, please,
Every detail of your day, because I
Will, draw it all — to treat the eye —
In the corners of a flipbook (at least I’ll try).
I’ll depict you as a tiny stick figure, coming
And going…Even in flight, rising in the sky!
Above clouds. With a flock of birds — wing to wing;
Returning on through heaven’s stars; angels waving good-bye.
I’ll wake you, then, later when I’m done,
And show how I I pictured the end of our fun:
When, before my leave, we ate slices of bread and cheese,
Praying our thanks for sharing these hours of memories.

Our happy-go-lucky friend once invited us
at his place to what he called pickle party.
We all were intrigued and excited,
for he mentioned the unique recipe,
which would be delicious cheese sandwich,
each one with filling of different types of pickle,
such as dill, lime, gooseberry, brewed in vinegar,
carrot, mango, and red chili, soaked in brine.
He had carefully laid out the table for us
with an array of six casseroles,
each one containing similar looking sandwich
of cheddar cheese with filling of specific pickle,
indicated by its transparent bottle placed
strategically in front of each casserole.
After we took a few sips of chilled beer
we were asked to taste the sandwich.
We chose all the different types,
except for the red chili one,
for none of us wanted to blaze the tongue.
As we took one bite we jumped up,
for the red chili set our mouths on fire.
We became the invited victim
of the culinary prank of our friend
who had fun seeing us in pickle at pickle party.

pear salad
dancing with color....
funeral today
Second death in our church from COVID.
Here in rural Georgia neighbors, friends, family, church members have always brought in food and helped when there was a death. Now times have changed and the family no longer meet at home, etc. Our church as do other churches in our area prepare a meal for the family on the day of the funeral and most of the time the family eats at the church's social hall. I am still weak and exhausted but I fixed pear salad so my husband could take it over to the church to add to the meal. I shred lettuce for the bottom then arrange the pears, placing a teaspoon of mayonnaise in each hollow(where the core was) then add a red cherry on top of the mayonnaise topping it all off with shredded sharp cheddar cheese. One can put whipped cream, cottage cheese, cream cheese or some other item in the center if mayonnaise is not right for you.

Two fried eggs I’ll have with cheddar cheese,
hash browns and some bacon on the side!
Would you make the bacon crispy please?
Two fried eggs I’ll have with cheddar cheese.
That lovely pastry also- such a tease -
looks like the Danish which last time I tried!
Two fried eggs I’ll have with cheddar cheese,
hash browns and some bacon on the side.

It's spring and fresh Farmers Market
asparagus always calls for a quiche,
so I dig out the May,1986 Milk Calendar
recipe, you can’t get more Canadian.
We use a pressed wheat germ crust because
we’re not good at real pastry, the secret is
cold hands according to Sarah’s mother
and I guess we’re too hot handed.
Sauté 1 cup of chopped onion,
lightly steam approximately one
pound of chopped asparagus and place
onions and asparagus at bottom of pie crust.
Beat 3 of our neighbour’s farm fresh eggs
(4 ‘large’ store-bought eggs), then add
two-thirds cup plain yogourt, a cup of milk,
and a cup and a half of shredded old cheddar cheese
(yes, very much the 1986 Milk calendar but I
did use canola oil instead of butter for the sauté)
a tsp each of salt and dried dill (2 tbsp fresh if available),
one tbsp Dijon mustard and cinnamon and
nutmeg to taste (in my case this means a lot).
Pour egg mix over onions and asparagus over pie
(if desired top with a wheel of asparagus spears).
Bake at 375? for 35 minutes, let. cool for 10
and savour the taste of spring.

What's for lunch
Turkey burger with Onion rings?
Should I order Pizza instead?
Decisions, decisions...
Should I make
a New Year's resolution
even though I always fail
at keeping them?
Mr. Pest Control,
you sprayed here and there
yet I still see cockroaches! Why?
How effective are those sprays?
Which one is better
to bait a mouse
peanut butter, or a cube
of cheddar cheese?
Oh, If only I had a cat!
Yeah, evasive mouse,
I'm dying to kill you,
painfully!
Should I place the cheese
atop a glue trap?
Ah, speaking of cheese,
when was the last time
I went to Chuck E. Cheese?
Hmm, what is it like...
to witness an execution?
Wait...what!? Why did my mind
go there? Never mind.
