It’s 2am and I am awake
Feel like I slept a whole day
Rolling red rivers of sleep escape
I am a poet who needs sleep I say
For a winged white word traces brain
As a blue bird tangled in my mane
To sleep right now would be a shame
Boogie down dancing muse do your thang
They say my dad use to cat nap
His creativity was crazy cool not zapped
Seems when I want to I teal tap
Into the creative gene pool with a snap
My doctor gave me a Cpap and
I hate it like I hate meat in a can
She gave me a green goal 4 hours
But sleepless nights are a super power.
I can hear music in a single word or phrase
If I choose it can write a purple song today
I write about lavender love not so much hate
I write about life, tender times, fuchsia faith
I am not manic so don’t go there
No need to panic just be aware
That some of us have creativity in excess
Because when others sleep I write my best
by the toilet
he catching zzzs
ears twitch
while catching beads of piss
TODAY
I sat silently
......as a cat purred
.......in my presence

Fractious feline
sensuously stretching,
languorously lying,
soporifically slumbering
(monocularly monitoring).
Meandering mouse!
Tail twitching...
tautly tensing...
Predatory pounce!
Salubriously surfeit!

a bunch
of roses
on one
thigh
a bud
in the
middle
where
do i see
eye to eye
where the
Cheshire Cat
sleeps
now i'm smiling
My cats have their fun
Then, they like to sit in sun
On the porch they go
Each one picks a chair that’s best
Side by side, in cat nap rest

CAT NAP
she carried her cat
up under her hat
tail sticking out
as it wriggled about
and as for her mittens
well, they were both kittens
when calico vested
I bettcha – you guessed it
six calico cats quietly nested
her favorite for fall
a tiger cat shawl
when eating Chinese
a wrap Siamese
it’s not that she’s lazy
this cat crazy lady
she’s addicted to “purr”
to kitty cat fur
there’s just something about it
won’t leave home without it.

Change of sheets
to ivory silk, color of cream
or buttermilk. Creme
Fraiche to mesh
in golden shine from
open blind. She's across
the bed to bask, to bask,
like a cat who knows
and shows the way, a spot
for the poet to store in
winter light, to toast in,
the bed, her host
in image clear, memory
dear, her cat C. Chan
curled by winter window
for winter sun, its
chill undone.

Crawling, furry pet
Aggressive, yet so lovable
Trying to get any sign of attention and winning it
No worries planted in their feeble brains
Attractive and a clever animal
Pleasurable extra family member, always keeping me busy!
Cat
Napping
At my feet
Dreaming of mice
Muscles twitching fast
You should be resting now
But instead you are chasing
Running as fast as you can go
Excited, you almost have him now
What will you do when you catch him? I ask.
