the super rich

The Super-rich

Wealthy people, rich men
find sitting on a heap of money only
is not fulfilling
Therefore, many wealthy men dabble in
something else, like car racing or dabbling
in gift cards promising a large sum of money
For the "richest man in the world" interest
is political, helping to shape the future
Elon Musk is the person who thinks he has
made the right choices, helping Trump
His adoration for Trump, based on the hero
worship and not about sound politics
He is an ingénue that makes him take side
even when he might be chasing
a white elephant.
Then again, should he succeed, he will get
blood on the tooth and dream big dreams
Since he is not born in the USA, change
the law and become president of the USA
In his mind, he is a wizard, a dreamer
who has had his fantasies come true
Since he tends to be autocratic
behavior might end up in the fascist camp
That is not what I wish on a potentially nice
person, like Elon Musk

Ode to a Highway Star

Lock up your daughter,
My wheels gonna slaughter,
Heading along the road,
Race ya, drive this load,
Beat you all, speed patrol,
Trailblazer, this my role,
You'll never catch my page,
I'm the star of this whole stage!

Premium Member Swing of the Highway

Highway swing
Highway dance
Swing in and out
Swing carefully
Out to stay alive
Out there on the freeway
Alive still
Alive to swerve
Swerve all about
Swerve cautiously
Still moving
Still dancing
About to smash
About to crash
Moving slowly
Moving not at all
Smash heard
Smash song
Slowly turn
Slowly open eyes
Heard metal
Heard brakes
Turn and look
Turn and feel sad for them
Metal crumpled
Metal jumbled
Look away
Look toward
Crumpled car
Crumpled truck
Away I go
Away from this sad
Car speeds up
Car racing soon
Go on truck
Go on car
Up a hill
Up toward clouds
Truck screeches on brakes
Truck slams them hard
Hill so daunting
Hill so steep
Brakes hold
Brakes keep us in place
Daunting day
Daunting and slow
Highway Dance
Highway Nerve
Nerve of steel, we drivers, now
Dance of highway, daily dance

Palindromes

One of our wildest, most memorable family sagas
involved my reckless brother, a racecar, a warm
spring day, and a non-adventurer, me. I warned, “Pop
said stay home today and mow.” “Sometimes Pa’s a sap”!
he scoffed. “When I race, I always win top spot—safely,”
he boasted. I wondered about the stats on car racing
and wrecks? I strongly suspected kayak racing was safer,
but I got in! He practically deified his souped-up coup
with a near-prayer: "Race fast, safe car!" When we raced his
rivals, my terror level was 12--on a scale of 10.
Was it a cat I saw almost lose one of its nine lives
as every tenet of sanity was abandoned?
Later, he bragged, “Now I won fair and square, Brother.
Name now one man who’s better. Stop shaking! You’re fine!”
I said, “Oh, I am? Refer to the huge wet spot on my seat!”

Wrenching pain, hot pavement, warm tears flowing
                        ---- Steaming ----
Not from being unloved or desires not being met
Just very simple little wooden doors slammed shut
                       --- Locking the heart ---
Truth not given, oh no, that just flies away so easily
Fast as a car racing on a track in a speeding minute
Vultures swirl, but wait until the last second to leave
                          --- Their feast ---
They think they know it all, just how fast you're driving
In the approach of only a simple sight you wanted to see
--- But they are wrong ---
Assumptions by others whirl in the silence unspoken
Their choice to protect what they think is helpful in a way
                            --- Wrong again ---
All it takes is a little effort, the simple choice to speak, to ask,
To communicate under the skies, even with the cloud cover

“Big”, it is a funny word, it’s loaded with triggers,
And can make you feel every emotion.
If you’re told “Hey, you look big”, you might overthink,
Collapsing in an implosion.
People might say you’ve “big” arms, “big” thighs, or
“big” ears, nose, mouth or “big” eyes.
Not getting that we’re all different, every part of each one of us
Having a different size.

But we feel good if we’re told we have a “big” heart,
That we care when people are in strife.
It implies we give joy, give peace, aid and calm,
Improving how people feel about life.
Also we might view the word “big” as your ambition,
Describing your lifestyle thirst.
You might be proud to have a “big” drive, or “big” hope,
Putting your ambitious intentions first.

You might be “big” on car racing, playing squash, reading books
Or enjoying the camping outdoors.
Or you might be “big” on watching movie marathons of
Harry Potter, The Dark Knight or Star Wars.
So however you feel about the word “big” when listening to others,
Feeling happy, or sad or proud.
Just remember how you say the word “big” to others is loaded,
Say it with love and say it loud.

Premium Member Watching Sports

You can watch others playing games
And that can be lots of fun I claim
Watching basketball for some folks is great
But some prefer football any day they debate.
It's lots of fun for them while they converse and also laugh
Some prefer watching baseball any time on their behalf
Or watching car racing as they snack and slurp a drink
Enjoying good sports is alright when you like them I think.
But for me reading or watching a good movie is more fun.
As I welcome any time spent like that a lot much more
Than wasting it just in any kind of sport that I just abhor.
In the end I can't abide it and just get bored after a while
Although, I don't mind watching sometimes a horse racing
or at times a good tennis match that on TV is just playing
And golf is one of those sports that I can't keep up scoring
But personally find that most sports can be quite so boring.

Pressures of Life

Pressures of Life
By
Larry Rawlins

In my teen years, the excitement of weekend nights
The thrill of hearing my car racing tight
The excitement of finding the girl who was right
The thankfulness of being Mr. Cool and winning the fight
But Oh, the weight of the pressure of life

In middle years, gratitude of well-paying job, hoping to live a comfortable life
The love of watching our kids growing up, through their pains and strife
Then comes the worry they will leave you behind
The pain you feel from mistakes you wish you could rewind
But oh the weight of the pressure of life

In the latter years, you suddenly realize
It’s the little things that mean the most, hoping you didn’t sever the ties
Not weekend nights, or who could drink the most booze
Or not even being the one who is always right, when you knew you would lose
But oh the weight of the pressure of life

For now the end is near, we ask the questions, no one wants to hear.
Will today be the last day, and is this all
No more hot summers, cold winters or cool falls
For oh the weight of the pressure of life takes its toll
Question yourself, look into your soul.
But oh the weight of the pressure of life

Stock Car Racing

Cars, fast and loud.
Racing around the track, exciting the crowd.
Drivers pass each other without any fear, while the fans in the stands
drink their beer.
Pit crews jump over the wall in a flash to change tires and give the
gas tank a splash.
Crew chiefs pray their drivers don't crash because at the end of the
race they could win big cash.
