I fell in love in a biker bar
with a girl in chocolate hair.
It swept around her like a smoky fire
and woke up the beast in my lair.

Her bright eyes twinkled like brilliant stars
at the end of the moonless road--
they called to me like a siren song
to lay down my heavy load.

Tall she was like a square rigged ship
	like a mast shrouded in clouds;
and she could dance like a foamy wave,
	making Neptune cry out loud.

But the path of a ship is a bubble
	and suddenly she was gone--
her chocolate hair and vanilla neck
are moments in my sad song.

This siren's memory seizes me
like cinnamon schnapps and a grin
which warm the body from the inside out
and settle a smile on your chin.

Her dancing hair drove my clouds away
	and opened an azure sky;
and all I asked was a tall, thin ship
and two stars to steer me by.

Among all the women I've danced with
	none are remembered so fair
as a girl who walked like a tall ship,
and had waves of chocolate hair.

Premium Member As Time Goes By

Born in cloak of modesty, life toddles, yet thrives
Musing of blissful eternity in domain of paradise
Befriending and beholding its virtuous design
Facing triumphs and failures of quests worthwhile

From first breath to last it's a long thrilling ride
As love and desires rule trappings of eager minds
And will to acquire wealth demands equal time
While allure of fame ignites latent spark inside

As maturity gains wisdom it begins to ask why
Things that were treasured once, now fail to satisfy
And glitter that charmed then, now burdens eyes
When meaning of life changes as time goes by

And memories then bemoan venues forgone:
Failing to sail the oceans when tides were calm,
Forsaking kiss of love when nights twinkled stars,
Ignoring golden aura when fervid was the dawn

Precious become moments waning to end the game
When tallies are made of words said and unsaid--
Some seek reconciliation, some still burn the flame,
Some that meant so much, no longer mean the same

Premium Member Unforgotten Shores

Take me there to yesterday's Summer night.
Walking on the beach,
sand between our toes,
hair blowing in the breeze.

When ripples in the sea,
slowly cleansed the sand,
tickling our toes,
washing away our footsteps.

On the edge where ocean meets land,
shoulder to shoulder we sat,
listening to calm splashing waves,
our tanned skin soaking wet.

As stars twinkled in the horizons,
reflecting against the rushing tide.
It seemed as they had arrived
to be placed inside your eyes.

Gazing at the sun sink into the sea,
fireflies flickered as embers kept us warm.
Affectionately we embraced nature's silence,
with only the sound of our hearts beating.

Too frail are these feet to stroll along those shores.
but you remain harboured within my heart.
Together we've seen many waves kiss dry sands,
but unlike unfaithful tides, you still hydrate my soul.

We yearn to end it that way,
to be taken back to yesterday's summer night,
but are content building sandcastles,
along current coastlines.

Premium Member Firefly Days, Butterfly Nights

one fine day they changed places
fireflies lit daytime shadows
while butterflies splashed the night
a shrewd color scheme

bright hues and exotic moon
flittering and fluttering
pure rapture under the stars
midnight was dreaming

the firefly shadows twinkled
above the enraptured blooms
the fervent day seemed to pause
in search of the moon

I Saw You

I saw you

in that toothless smile

of the down on his luck stranger

when I offered him

 my juicy pinkish ripe peach

left over from my afternoon lunch

oh how his smile shined so

I saw you

in that twinkle in my daughter's eye

as I chased her around the park

climbing up and down the slides

across the wavering bridges

through the tubes and tunnels

playing a simple game of tag

oh how those eyes twinkled with love

I saw you

in that couple walking on the sandy beach

hand in hand

under the setting sky

the rich hues of yellow, orange, and red

floating in the clouds up high

oh how their passion radiated

I saw you

in that first lily of the spring

opening up so fresh and new

brightening up my garden

each tepal trumpeting a treasured song

oh how magnificent was it's sight

I see you in all that's around

in nature's beauty abound

in kindness, in love, in angelic faces

I see you in all of God's good graces

I see you

Unforgotten Shores

Take me back to yesterday's summer night
Walking on the beach,
Sand between our toes
Hair blowing in the breeze.

When ripples in the sea
slowly cleansed the sand,
Tickling our toes,
Washing away our footsteps.

On the edge where ocean meets land,
Shoulder to shoulder we sat,
Listening to calm splashing waves,
Our tanned skin soaking wet.

As skies twinkled in the horizon,
reflecting against the rushing tide.
It seemed as they have arrived
to be placed inside your eyes.

Gazing at the sun sink into the sea,
Fireflies flickered as embers kept us warm.
Affectionately we embraced nature's silence
with only the sound of our heartbeats.

Too frail are these feet now to stroll along those shores,
but you remain harboured within my heart.
Together we've seen many waves kiss dry sands,
But unlike unfaithful tides, you still hydrate my soul.

We yearn to end it that way,
to be taken back to yesterday's summer night,
but are content building sandcastles,
along current coastlines.

Premium Member One Last Tear

Riding distressed air, thoughts wander off
Disrupting poise and shaking her resolve
As the blue skies yield to darkened clouds
And sunny day concedes to advent of dark.

Looking for warmth she reaches far back
Reminiscing allure of moonlit ambiance
When holding hands under luminous stars
Amatory vibes twinkled dreamy romance.

Not a word he says about impending plight
Wrapping around her a reassuring stance,
Humming a tune from the sensuous past
Looking for sunshine amidst dreary storm.

Tomorrow will be the first day of new life
As countdown begins to how long he lives.
She'll be ready with the will of almighty,
Defying death at the entrance of mortality.

Much as they try to verbalize what's ahead
Silence manifests when words are needed.
A kiss of passion says she'll love him always
As one last tear sheds in grip of his embrace.

Premium Member The Dance

We
could have
danced all night,
around the calm
pond where cold dark waves
seem to send electric
notes that echoed all around
in the garden with melodies
soft that sent throbs in our lonely hearts
as we twirled and twirled, thinking of our love.
From high above, luminous stars twinkled,
on delicate, sensuous flowers,
exuding faintly the sweet scent,
urging us to speed our dance,
to the tune of soft breeze,
much to our delight
as we cling more,
two lips meet,
it is
Bliss.

Premium Member Black Cat's Wild Adventure

So, once upon a time, there was a cat
that had no real home, and all alone,
she'd wander here and there amid the yards
in a community with lovely lawns
and shady trees and bushes that gave her
some shelter from the sun and pouring rain.

She'd go from house to house and beg for food;
with kind gold eyes and fur of shiny black,
she made some friends, but then, she'd run away.
Except, one day, she found her perfect home
and stayed and stayed till they adopted her.

So, in and out she'd go in her two worlds,
content for shelter and fine tasty meals;
still loving her adventures when outdoors.

But, oh one day, her 'daddy' caught a scene
that put such fear into his loving heart!
For there she was across the street, oh no,
in frozen stance and nearly nose to nose
with a coyote, large and tawny-gray!
For many seconds, neither moved, but then
she lunged into his face- was so surprised
and shocked...the huge coyote ran away!

As Licorice, (her name), came racing home
she flew into the open door and hopped
upon her 'mama's' lap and looked up with
her large gold eyes that twinkled with delight,
as if to say- don't worry about me-
my homeless days made me a warrior.

Premium Member My Mother's Eyes- Thoughts On the Armenian Genocide

They dragged her away
Kicking and screaming
Arms outstretched towards
My little sister
Who lay dying on the ground
Her lips parched
Her eyes sunken
Her wasted arms reaching out
“Myreik, don’t leave me!”

My father pulled her away from
The young soldier’s hands
The one who had violated her
The one who now sneered
“Keep moving….she will be dead
Before nightfall.”

I hurried after them
Stumbling through my tears
Afraid of being left behind
I turned for one last look
There she lay…her eyes closing
Left behind to join the
The dead along the path
My sister….

That night I didn’t hear her cry
Or complain as the soldiers
Dragged her away
She was beautiful
My mother
With eyes the color
Of the sea
Eyes that danced
And twinkled
Like stars on a clear night
Eyes that smiled
Eyes that embraced
Eyes that spoke
What words couldn’t say
I fell asleep to the sound of my father’s weeping

“Wake up,” I heard her say
As I fought to keep my dreams alive
My eyes fluttered open
I closed them to the hungry faces
I closed them to the filth on her dress
I searched her eyes
Calm and glassy
They looked past me
Not seeing
In them I read
No pain
No joy
No recognition
No….life!
Tears sprang to my eyes
Tears for the death of my sister’s body
Tears for the death of my mother’s soul…

My mother’s eyes
My mother’s eyes...
They haunt me still.

Premium Member Summer's Wish

One night a-twinkling in the sky,
I spied a clever firefly
Who glowed the same faint silver-gray
As stars a million miles away.

*****

Although most stars remain afar
I reached out with a big glass jar
Then with a quick and sudden -SWISH-
I caught a twinkling summer's wish!

*****

I whispered to him my desire,
Then set him free -- that twinkling fire.
With lightning speed he went, and soon
He twinkled right on past the moon.

*****

Now when I'm in the dark of night.
If I but look, I'll see his light.
A-twinkling faithful in the sky
My clever little firefly!

The Clock It Mocks

Left out in the cold
Silent night; my jilted star
That once blazed in cherish across her world
That once lit up her heart and twinkled her toes
Now, no longer glows

Once; upon a long time ago
A memory now of old forgotten times
A star now in decline
It lies there – dead

A death star now exploding into Supernova’s
Of hope
Hoping against useless hopelessness
That bleeds you to the core when
Drowning in repetitive
Wonderment

To choking on what could have, should have
Been
Before Him…

Before. It was just Us

Her hands, I clearly see, frozen in pantomime
Of words unsaid
They spilled across the floor like a whore
His smell upon our bed
Insanity climbing through my head
It spreads, like a disease
Only time can purge

Only the clock

It mocks

Tick tock
Tick tock…

“Fear whispers worry into your ear, anxiety into your hopes and doubt into your faith… Love whispers hope and peace” – by poet

With a brain washed pale
By voices thundering
Silent screams echoing through me
Clearing away the debris
Of disappointment and disillusionment
My mind darkened on a clear night
No stars twinkled through my thoughts
And the blaze of my heart
Was smothered beneath the darkness
That was like a consuming fire
Shooting flames through my mind
Resonating fear and doubt
Clouding my soul with black suspicion
Breaking away all the hope and faith
Pouring disgust through my veins
Marking the way for desolation
Despair and waves of guilt
That sauntered across my emotions
Coloring me in hues of gray

Bipolar disorder screamed
Beneath a mask of whispers
And I cried – tears of desperation
Tears that flowed out of me
Relentless, unceasingly
And I prayed for peace
That only God could bring to me

Philippians 4:7 (King James Version) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

And Just Like the Moon

Vaguely lit
--- by the summer moon,
starlight reigns from an ancient song.

Her sweet madness, shrouded like a child's secret;
--sang to her like she were a dying friend.

Their smiles twinkled as a banana spider spun
Venus into her web.
Moon shadows planted their face
in the tall grass

as shimmering willows sent their fingers feeling.
Memories from across the centuries
came flooding back like a retreating tsunami.

Her soft touch tingled on his skin,
something even Picasso couldn't capture on canvas.
His thoughts dove into the dark depths of her eyes,
swimming in the dancing starlight.

She tossed stones through the moon's
reflection
and a million moons slow danced
the Fibbonocci.

They caught shooting stars
in their nets
and
sealed them in jars,

and just like the moon...

I hung there.
