Best Twilight(A) Poems
Summer's end once again is almost here
But I welcome the disappearance of high heat with cheer
Even though I will miss my whip-poor-will's song
He sings at twilight a most rapturous song
His symphonic melody adds a special savor here
And creates anticipation for each evening's cheer
When he visits, heart filled, then releases his music's cheer
It makes me want to learn his undulating song
Then day after day all winter long there'd be music here
Evenings here then would end with cheer, and morns would begin with song

“Life without colors is colorless” – poet
In a world painted with vibrant hues,
Life unfolds in a spectrum of views,
With so many colors, both bold and bright,
Each shade telling stories, day and night.
As the sunrise, aureate and tender,
Life's avenues begin to sweetly render,
At each dawn, a pristine canvas is laid,
Strokes of hope and dreams therein cascade.
Orange, ablaze with ardor and delight,
It sparks passions within, a fervent light,
Aflame like wild infernos that dance,
Kindling aspirations, like a child's trance.
Amidst meadows, verdant fields serene,
Nature's tableau, tranquil and serene,
Emerald foliage murmurs secrets concealed,
A sanctuary for peace, its power revealed.
Blue, the color of the endless sky,
A gentle reminder as time passes by,
It reflects our dreams, aspirations so high,
Guiding us with its calm, soothing sigh.
Violet blooms, a touch of mystique,
With its elegance, it captures the unique,
Majestic like twilight, a moment divine,
Unveiling wonders, in shades that intertwine.
And midst the tumult, a touch of crimson fire,
Passion's ardent love, hearts doth inspire,
Like an ever-burning flame, constant and bright,
Igniting bonds where memories take flight.
Embrace this palette, unfurl spirit's sail,
In life's colors, miracles prevail.

The Curach (currach) is a traditional Irish boat made from animal skins / hides (now canvass). The hides vibrate when a whale sings.
Whale Song
How gentle the waves lapped the boat almost bobbing me to sleep,
My liquid turquoise mattress with its secrets buried cold and deep.
A curious dolphin glided past, its snout smiled in its personal joke,
As it observed my ungainly presence, (this awkward land folk).
My man made curach of pitch, wood and canvass stretched taut.
As she masters the sea with courage to return the fish she caught.
Now as I lolled towards twilight a strange sensation vibrated the boat,
It hummed an angels tune that rippled the canvass, with a glorious note.
And there in the distance, a great humpback whale trumpeted the clear air
As I sat in heaven blessed company with nature, in the middle of nowhere.
The whale approached my flimsy craft with a natural grace that was serene
One of the most beautiful creatures that shares this wonderful marine.
And so the whale passed by with the gentlest disruption of space,
And I think it was amused when he saw the look on my face.
I sat there drained yet elated at this wonder I had shared
No camera or witness to observe the scene or to have cared
But I was there and my soul was touched like a child once again
To witness such beauty often befouled by the actions of men.
Now as I lolled towards twilight a strange sensation vibrated the boat,
It hummed an angels tune that rippled the canvass, with a glorious note.

He's a seasoned outdoorsman; a lover
and explorer of nature who frequently
goes camping, on occasion, hunting; even fly-fishing.
He's equally at home in the wild as he is in civilization.
He's usually accompanied by his wife, or dog.
Hiking alone in the woods one fateful day,
he never anticipated the misfortune
that befell him. He built a makeshift shelter
deep into the vast wilderness
with palm fronds chopped off of a coconut tree.
Reposing nigh twilight, a rattlesnake crawled
into his shelter and bit him on the right foot.
Suddenly, it becomes a race against time
to get to a hospital, a race he's bound to lose.
The nearest hospital is fifteen miles away, by car.
The poison injected into him is spreading
from his foot up; akin to a metastasizing cancer.
He's confronted with two choices,
do the unthinkable or watch his life slowly
and painfully slip away before his eyes.
Paralyzed with fear and unable to rush himself to
the hospital as quick movements would accelerate
the spread of poison, he chose the unthinkable.
He tied a tourniquet below his right knee and began
chopping off his leg with a machete to save his life.

Narrative
As your wish of Persephone’s homecoming
We prepare minimal harvests from upheaval
Lost cause is the aid from ill-advised panic,
This casts doubt on her uncertain retrieval.
Demeter! Eyes of own appreciate our harvest,
These distant fields furrow with guided fracture
Stippled under greenery from a veil’s blockade
Virtues the gauge in which patience decides,
Miniscule the remnants with featureless serenity.
(Demeter)
When serenity further ventures availing hope?
Reminiscing confines a good past as undone!
Full quota the hearsay rumours have it false,
Alas, it is not! Had I reined her close, it might.
What patience has to honour, bereavement has none
Add Persephone’s quandary to the spectroscope,
Your purpose replies with a synopsis of course
Where underworlds design a stark reality to some.
(Views the harvest)
A penchant of well being in spite of mixed moods
Decides the mood, which in turn designs the season
Therefore, devise draining soils to your advantage-
Bale the thrusts of bittersweet as my tears became
Blocked in by sentinels’ the adornment of brilliance
Contrast with vivid twilight a beguiled revelation,
As wheat-sheafs’ bide an arc from golden chariots
Through displays, the haze of genial zephyrs brisk-
Mysteries surmise a whereabouts to quantum leaps
Exhibit confinement of spring to an autumn equinox,
And as therapeutics go, bereavement takes the risk.

(Mortals) Who are building nations.
Treasure the divinity of Demeter to all nations-
Answering to each nobility, her problem solving
Storing strength, our harvest elations;
Peace in our time, whilst mood swings evolving
Bond the religious bridge for neighbourly suffice
So we ourselves can understand those lands,
Whose barren terra firma distinguish the entice
Those future developments where trust expands,
More as an understanding, than self-sacrifice.

Epic
Near or far wherever I choose to go
No river I come across no cool shade
In light or dark I find only grey snow
In velvet leaf enters deep a cold blade
Whether at home or outside it will come
Along with me a painful cup lonely
Despite the mob terribly noisesome
The dark and dull books still further empty
Whether rain or spring it is always there
The snow to lay its icy hands on mine
Dust in lynched lust in blue and black despair
In the vein of twilight a pain saline
Under the sun anywhere I seek rest
Feast of loneliness exults in its crest

Sonnet
With twilight a few days away
Answers were revealed in strange places
Alignment of the planets
A chorus only I heard
A coven of 5 female clowns
Holding hands in a circle
In the Walgreens parking lot
Slowly walking in circles
Chanting some unrecognizable omen
Everyone saw them, only I heard them
You see, folks come to Walgreens
Hoping for a cure
Real or imaginary
An apparition appeared through the mist
Apparently the chanting showed results
A tall figure, hair aflame
Exulted the coven to disperse
Shooting stars hesitated above their heads
Casting an evil glow upon them
Suddenly the clowns disappeared
Screams fading into the trees
Leaving only charred ashes
Omens
Cast
Away

Sweet mists of morning, and rose red mystery,
So much color all around, nothing is left to see,
Orangey mists of twilight, a tangerine surprise,
I can't see pearl stars, for beauty's in my eyes.
Golden mists of afternoon, hazy clouds in grass,
Pretty as a silken flower, though it will not last!
Deep purple midnight mists, so airy and dreamy,
Wafting in my gardens, in the moonlight creamy.

Rhyme
A mirage of deathly shadow grates my mind…
flinging me out beyond a holed nightscape;
it traps my existence on chains of insanity
as footsteps race against a tortuous wind
drumming, banging, yelling old sins;
and how it laughs as if to rake my bones
into pieces... NO, is there a way
out from this purgatory, this meshed labyrinth?
A surreal whip drives me between
zones of hysteria and coherence:
Yet, it haunts all imaginings.. a slide-show
zooming in, out a ravine’s edge to rows
where bloodied vines climb inside walls of my head…
Gasping for breath, I wake in the dead
of twilight: a nightmare’s pursuit
lynching my sleep again, again...and again.

Dramatic Verse
They roam miles over hillsides
stride aimlessly cross open plains
and grassy fields
unseen and silent to all cept' those
who see with more
then their eyes,
hear with more
then their ears,
and believe with more
then their hearts and minds.
Twilight,a gray blue haze,settles in
quiet, no sound(s) heard
but those of time almost forgotten
souls lost, blanketed by death
foot-steps hushed by time
travel now in ghostly silence
their destiny, to travel the forever trail.
Physical lives long shed in defense
of the very ground they are now one with
their cries must be heard! always honored
never to be forgotten
lest their lives were sacrificed for naught.

Prose Poetry
No one tells
(I should stop here)
…of shadows in the alleyways
believe me…
(you should)
that the fangs come out
at night
(never during the day)
i have to say
(you should too)
that the movies are too trite
with blood
no guts
no gusto by the way
no great romance
of happenstance
well one or two
(perhaps)
dark shadows was classic
twilight, a scream
a handsome stranger
rings the bell
he’s a bit pale
charms you to
your bones
she is young and beautiful
sees her reflection
nothing more
she should wear a cross
or douse herself in garlic
(but maybe he likes garlic
with his meal)
her dad’s loading silver bullets
in his revolver (perhaps he’s
a taste for murder)
there’s a coffin sitting in the driveway
her dad smiles. he can put that to some use
or get his goose cooked
(you see,
he didn’t see the stranger
creeping up his way)
the vampire had no use for his superpowers
just knocked good old dad out
the gal’s already knocked up
with two holes in her jugular vein
(didn’t see it happen?)
perhaps you paid too much
attention to the dad
and now he has you in his sights
but you won’t have time
to turn and run
you can’t win this race
no one tells
a deadman’s tale
mind you, it’s all just…

Narrative
My heart lays within the burrow.
In the stillness of this place there is beauty, its envelopes the terrain.
Softness is embodied in the rich colors of both shade and hue.
Lush emerald herbage, grass swaying within the current that embraces you.
Twilight, a glistening blanket ensnared within the ebony backdrop.
There is an abundance of life, it thrives in the meadow.
To the wolves who bay.
To the coyotes that cackle.
There is life within the burrow.
May you play in the evergreen for an eternity, your mind privy to time.
Chase the swiftness of the jack rabbit, paw at passing fireflies.
Nestle yourself among the comforts of the vegetation, embrace both warmth and wonder.
Incarnate is this place.
For my heart lays within the burrow and as do you, as do you

Ballade
I wonder if He is crying when the rain falls soft
Lingering beneath the twilight, a breathless waft
I wonder if, during the storm, when I hear His booming voice
Is He assuring me, despite the pain, I should still rejoice
I wonder if He writes His glory across the starry skies
Poetry in hues of song, brilliant stories we can’t disguise
I wonder if He tells the heart just what it should say
Pouring out beauty on a soul who needs the light of day
I wonder if He sees all the worst I am, and loves me anyway
With love that can’t be explained – it is all I’ll ever pray…
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit, writing light into my soul
Blessing me with wonder that will surely make me whole!
Never stop believing in the One who came to save
For this is our life’s miracle, this Son who God gave
To restore us to a relationship filled with love and grace,
To give our lives a purpose with His sweet embrace.
Without Him here beside me, revealing what life is all about,
I wouldn’t know the hope that silences my every doubt.
Without His love and kindness, His wonderful joy and peace
I wouldn’t know the loving spirit that is God’s masterpiece.
Without the man named Jesus, and all the love that saved,
I wouldn’t know what it means to walk the road He paved.

The Twilight (C) 2024 Artimus The Poet - Susan Manley All Rights Reserved
Musical Introduction
[Verse]
Over the mountains the purple comes rolling
lit like a backdrop silhouette glowing
Soon to meet the valley in cascades of light
to make day of what has been night
The sun with shine
the stars will fade
And some will sleep
while others awake
And soon once again
that purple will rise
and push the light out
from the skies
[chorus]
The Twilight
it comes every day
the purple haze
decending over the planet
the marking of the passage of time
to reflect on how its spent
to relax sublime
And where memories are swept
It pulls us forward
into nights inky depths
where the day is forgotten
in sleep in dreams we rest
[Musical Interlude]
[Verse]
later dawn will arise
and wipe sleep from our eyes
with pink it is so bright
it evaporates mist and brings to light
All that is the day
progresses through the haze
and if we have planned it
it can be jam. packed . in...
[Verse]
Over the mountains the purple comes rolling
lit like a backdrop silhouette glowing
Soon to meet the valley in cascades of light
to make day of what has been night
(to make day of what has been night)
[Outro]
The sun with shine
the stars will fade
And some will sleep
while others awake
And soon once again
that purple will rise
and push the light out
from the skies
Stop and watch that glory of the passing to the night
the purple into twilight
it marks the march of your life
inching forward to the unknown
Time is the only currency...
you never know the balance of
so spend it wisely
Spend it wisely
(Spend it wisely)
spend it wisely
before you go

Lyric
Bali Hai, you call me
Only me, only me.
Bali Hai, you whisper
And I return with my hopes and dreams to your sea.
Sun is glistening on the top of the sparking water so deep
into flamingo pink twilight a bit of tangerine and marigold seep
As a castaway, let me find my island paradise, my refuge, my escape.
And if I meet a super hero there, he shall wrap me in his magic cape.
Today I am enthralled with the exotic, erotic, neurotic dance of the sea.
Bali Hai, you call me.
Only me,
Only me….
