Does Your Heart Share This Moon Tonight

“For in your light I dream, as evening takes my hand”

Silently I find my thoughts illumined by your beauty
In soft shimmers of dancing silhouettes
and patterns allowing far away breaths to sigh

Eyes peer into velvet skies,
visions set in motion eternally, find me stranded of this
distance we share, north to south, longing for you
Desperate for but a breeze, a movement of shadow,
a hope of wishes made upon the early arrival
of this crested view

Lonely among the maples, towering soldiers
lined at fielded boundaries, claiming wisdom
as they too reach for your smile

“And I yearn the knowledge of your distant view”

Do you think, do you feel, do you dream of me
from balconies high above hibiscus footpaths,
candle lit in passing moments which flicker, enchant

Drinking from a porcelain cup caressed by your hand,
a touch my body pleads, soft fingers on smooth surroundings,
ripples following moonlight sonatas,
days of spring blooms and whimsical showers,
flooding affections to wash over me,
carry me to you

This moon, suspended in charcoal heavens
upon a beaded blanket of perfect pearls,
beckons our dreams in simultaneous fashion

“Does your heart share this moon tonight, with me”

Premium Member It Is Quiet Tonight

It is quiet tonight.
The only sound is coming from
the soft murmur of the television set.
I don't know why I don't just put it on mute.
I don't want to hear what they have to say,
but I guess it is better than the sound
           of silence which is deafening.
It hurts my ears, it hurts my heart.

Yesterday I was happy, but that was before,
before I stepped into the dark abyss.
I think I may have been pulled in
           by the apathy of death.
Death has such long arms.
I won't ask why, I know everyone must die.
But you left on a happy day, a day we were
making plans, and I had hope,
hope that we still had time,
                    time to share those plans.
You made me laugh until I cried that day,
        and then death swooped in
                      and took it all away.
It is so quiet tonight.

August 10, 2016 Poem of the Day

Tonight I Could Paint a Moonlight

Tonight is not like other nights

Tonight I could paint a moonlight

with the smudged ink of my tears

No its not the inexperienced arms of death

which are longing to embrace my breath

that fill this soul with pain and fear

Nor is it the breeze of thousand needles

'neath the soft glow of my skin ,

What scares me most is...

Not being here in a twenty years or so

to tread love's kiss upon my daughter's cheek

Feel my fingers running through her hair

Listen to the sweet sound of her laughter

Make a wish under the unnoticed starry stars

and watch her dance beneath a repetitive boring sky.

What scares me most is...

Not being here in a twenty years or so

To let the crimson of my lips

bleed its rose close to your pillow

and its fragrance 'pon your bed

Its not being here to hold your blemished hands

and say to you all words still left unsaid

What scares me most is...

That in a twenty years or so

You will be here , still hating candles, all alone,

Its missing the chance, to share those words that don't make sense

yet mean that I have loved you all along.

In a twenty years or so ...In a twenty years or so

Will the ones I hold so dear

still find a way to know ?

In This Moment, Tonight

In tune with this familiar vibe, let’s wonder how it might be
Across the room our eyes will meet, a set of four
In a place setting reserved for two, captivated
Our everyday routines and thoughts will speak
Through the eyes, uninhibited, grooving in the same skin

Once upon a raging fire we’ll celebrate
The memory of that zing thing, we'll watch as it
Circles slowly into softer flames, flickering
Well-suited as old comfortable shoes
And continue enveloped in life's mystical sound

More sensible, aware of the need to be inward
Or outward at different times, we'll find pleasure
In being tired wild things, slowing down in our swings
If it breaks and cracks we’ll pledge not to notice

So, just for the sake of thinking that it might not last
Before it’s even begun, let’s just wish upon hope
Until we meet, and vow to be good to each other
In this moment, tonight

Tonight while watching candles glow
I hear faint sounds of cricket's tune
Where near the Mississippi's flow
Reflects the dawning of the moon.

My mind is wrapped in reverie
Of summer nights I shared with you.
Of lazy evening's cool iced tea
Those peaceful nights when love was new.

Do you remember when we met?
Crystal raindrops began to fall.
You sheltered me, I can't forget.
'Twas near the ivy covered wall.

But now the bloom of love is gone
And you have moved so far away.
You broke my heart, then you moved on
One day a love will make you pay.

Yet when I dream, I dream of you
And wish that I could rewind time.
When we were young and love was new
And summer nights were so sublime.

Tonight while watching candles glow
I hear faint sounds of cricket's tune
Where near the Mississippi's flow
Reflects the dawning of the moon.

Premium Member Walk With Me Tonight

Will Thee walk with me tonight ?
Amongst the spirits of Twilight
Gothic verse we wilt recite
I wilt gage not to bite

Wilt thee with me slowly dance ?
As we descend into lover’s trance
With thy charm thee doth enchant
Speak thy wishes
For thee I’ll grant

Both frozen in the midst of time
Our soulless bodies wilt entwine
Flush lips of blood sip scarlet wine
On those lips I yearn to dine

Permit my domination, let reality depart
Allow me to enter thy beauteous blackened heart
I implore thee anon, mine beauty of dusk
Within is a hunger, replete with lust

Cometh let us now abscond
Dip our toes in reaper’s pond
Milk the moon so we may swim
Filling it’s juices to the brim

Bathe with me in lacteous splendour
Mine hands around thy waist so slender
Our bodies melt to form a bond
And as we fuse I doth respond

So bid me now to take thy hand
And lead thee to a world so grand
We will liveth still into this night
Eternally dancing beneath spellbinding moonlight

JUST A GUY WITH THE BLUES

[Verse 1]
Hello, sweet brown-eyed girl
I'm just a guy with the midnight blues
Tryin’ to play it cool, but truth be told
I'm already lost in you

You gave the softest little smile
And I was halfway ‘cross the floor
Had a line in mind, a drink and some time
Maybe walk you out that door

[Chorus]
But girl, you lit up like the sun
Hit me with a look I couldn’t outrun
All my life, I’ve dreamed of this
Was countin’ down to our first kiss… tonight

[Verse 2]
That’s when he walked on by
With that easy charm and confident stride
You turned to him like a song you knew
And I felt the light leave the room

[Chorus 2]
Yeah, those sweet brown eyes
Never even caught these blues
It was just a dream, just a dance in my mind
A love I never got to lose

You smiled like I wasn’t even there
Guess hearts don’t always get to choose
So I’ll be walkin’ home alone tonight
Just a guy with the blues

[Bridge]
Maybe in another life
You’d look up and I’d be right
But fate’s a quiet kind of thief
And hope don’t always stay the night

[Final Chorus]
Now those brown eyes shine for someone new
And I fade back into the view
It’s me and this neon sky
Singin’ truths I can’t deny

Yeah, I’m just a guy with the blues
Still crazy… behind these blues

[Outro]
Just a guy...
With the blues

Tonight I Dream of You

Soft creeps the splendid dream tides of the night
The burning embers of heavens breath descends upon my dreams
Dreams of you, my love tonight
Sparkling wishes, amulet stars, a kiss goodnight.

Heart withstanding aches I dare retrace,
I am accompanied by a newfound face, an explorer’s vision
Tears of joy sprout from their jeweled wings,
Flying toward the smiling moon,
I welcome dreams…tonight, I welcome you
Where whispers trail the sleeping waters.... my love goodnight
Unending sails, hearts submerged in love's delight
Tonight I dream of you
On the rosy fields of memoirs sweet

Soft, tender breezes remind me of your crescent touch..
I curl into the swaying waters, cradled by our memory
Where once you smiled in afterthought, and I in golden reverie
Would beauty among these gentle scenes kindly draw you in?
So maybe we can share the graces of light that lives within
Soft moonlit roses, dripping in night-shined dew,
Yes, even as they close, tonight I dream of you.

Take my hand, don’t let me leave this land
For it thrives on our love’s horizon,
Draw your words upon my life, and let night take its stand
But before I sleep, my love tonight. Oh let me seal it with a kiss.
That in beauty's dream my light would float in your love's eternity.
A thousand saddest days may come, and a thousand darkest dreams
But I'll chase them all for you my love, just to have you in my dreams.

These eyes closed tightly with the rosebuds ,
Shall open before clouds, dark and awry
And in the ground, my love for you shall yet still bloom,
Fed by the healing rain, and your steady love refrain
When tonight I dream of you

Premium Member The Full Moon Makes Faces Tonight

The Full Moon Makes Faces Tonight

Gazing out my picture window on this darkest of night,
The full moon shone sky-high with the brightest of light.

I spied its eldritch contours and its dark areas whole,
As this lucent orb made faces at me from pole to pole.

Methinks these faces were for this special moment now,
A teasing fantasy-illusion for me to wonder why and how?

This full moon had two eyes stone-set from East to West,
Giving me a very comical-look whilst winking all the best!

This lunar illusion silently sang a sly aria full of devilry,
As it mesmerized my senses replete with all due revelry.

As I studied this comedic-faced orb far from our Earth,
I felt its true spiritual intent was one for a cosmic rebirth.

The full moon made its curious faces on this darkest night,
Whilst I smiled big as I basked and bathed in its lunar light!

Premium Member Dad Is Coming Home Tonight

Our house is abuzz
With Me, Bella and Jess
And Mummy is all delight
“Dad’s coming home tonight! “

The Cake has been made
The table has been laid
Candles are alight
Dad will be home tonight!

Mum’s wearing polka dots
Dress, Dad had bought
She looks pretty, so bright!
Dad will be home tonight.

Jess was only two
When dad had to go
He still remembers him, right?
Can’t wait for Dad tonight!

Bella’s dream is a soprano
And so deft with the piano
She will make it a musical nite
When daddy’s home tonight!!

But me? I am a bit too shy
So I did this song on the sly
Plan to place it under his desk-light
Hope Dad will read it tonight!

Dad may have stories from afar
Of his travels and the war
Tales of nobility and military might
At the dinner table tonight.

Just imagine him at the door
Big smile, Open arms for us four
His loving grasp will be tight
When he comes home tonight.

There is a knock on the door!
We all cheer and roar!!
Mum is there on a flight,
Jess lisps, “is it already tonight?”

Four soldiers stand at our gates,
They must be his work mates,
Mum’s voice is soft in fright
“Is he coming home tonight?”

Voices drown as the men depart
Mum is back, her hand on heart
Slowly her legs yield to her weight
“Daddy won’t be coming home tonight!”

Tonight

Tonight I sleep in solitude, every thought is filled with you;
And yet you would not believe the magnitude of the desire I have for you..
Tonight as I think about the comments you made,
I realize I haven't wanted a woman so bad in over a decade!
Tonight I put my pen in hand and wrote a rhyme.
About me being your man and you being my sunshine.
Tonight I wondered about the color or your eyes.
Even the curves in your hips and the thickness of your thighs.
Tonight as I layed back listening to my walkman.
I imagined you were Jane and I was Tarzan on a tropical island.
Tonight I let my imagination run free;
Of all the possibilities if you were here with me.
Tonight although I could not see your face, I created an image of profection.
You took my hand and we embraced in this heavenly connection.
Tonight is the night you will feel every inch of me.
So close your eyes and inhale the energy of my spirituality....

Turn to a whirring glint beneath

Premium Member Miss Liberty Weeps Tonight

The majestic Statue of Liberty has stood with dignity for many years.
She has been a Beacon of Hope for the hopeless seeking new frontiers.
She weeps with joy welcoming new immigrants to her shores.
Alas, she weeps tears of sorrow seeing young soldiers off to wars.
How she must weep tonight seeing young children racing for her border,
Seeking sanctuary from nations that seemingly lack a sense of order.
She weeps seeing the disregard of the Constitution by inept politicians,
And their deceitful attempts to destroy our God-given rights and traditions.
How Miss Liberty must weep seeing the way her heroic veterans are treated,
Many lonely, ignored and dying from the scars of wars left untreated.
In this land of plenty she weeps seeing the hungry and dispossessed,
Their hopes now dashed in what was once the pursuit of a noble quest.
She has weathered the many vicissitudes of America with a pensive sigh,
Yet, thank God, with tenacity she still holds The Torch of Freedom high!

At Least I Twinkle, Tonight

I feel like a star
cast amongst this ambiguousness
of sky
and I'm hanging on
to vacant air

as all the saplings
and gawkers
slurp on lattes
and wish upon my misery

alas, when one of those whims
chooses to make itself
come true,
I'll shoot like a meteor

into nothing

but a tittle of dust
flickering
in someone else's dream

Premium Member Tonight I Went Out Swinging For the Very First Time

Tonight I went out Swinging for the very first time
Now the title has grabbed your attention – I hope you will read my rhyme!

Tonight I went to hear The Manx Swing Band
The best musicians throughout the land
Don Elliot and Terry Quayle have been members right from the start
Forty years in the band - they have never been apart

Classic swing tracks we all love to hear
In the interval you can even have a beer
Fabulous melodies and tunes from many years ago
With saxophones swinging gently to and fro

We began with ‘On the Sunny Side of the Street’
As soon as I heard it I was tapping my little feet
Begin the Beguine drifted gently from the stage
In 1938 this song was all the rage

Over the Rainbow – oh what a beautiful song
When they played this track I just wanted to sing along
Moon River brought a tear to my eye
It’s a favourite of mine and even now it makes me cry

Moonlight Serenade and In the Mood by the fantastic Glen Miller
American Parade and Little Brown Jug, sure were a crowd thriller
A medley of Beatles songs and then some James Bond Themes
Such wonderful music I shall hear it in my dreams

New York New York chords swiftly came along
The band can’t resist playing a great Sinatra song
Next was Duke Ellington’s Take The A Train
Now I’ve heard that tune I can’t get it out my brain

I am sure that you can see I’ve had the most amazing night
If I told my mum I’d gone ‘Swinging’ she may get a dreadful fright
When you see this poem's title please don’t get it into your head
That something I put in black and white means I’m jumping into bed!
