Best Thump Poems
In times of impending demise, you might see your life being replayed across your mind. Sometimes it’s in fast forward, sometimes in slow motion, sometimes both at once. Life flashes in random order, constantly cycling in and out like an out of control tilt-a-whirl at the county fair. You’d think that with all those moments stuck on a playback loop that one would walk away with perfect recall of all the events. Not true. You can remember things like the first time you pooped in your diaper and that piece of Bazooka Joe bubble gum you pocketed when you were ten years old. Every detail, no matter how small or insignificant will come flooding back. But what the heck just went down, draws a complete blank.
when death feels certain,
life flashes by in seconds—
don’t regret the show

Ka-thump-a-loon, my pet raccoon,
sings opera in the woods at noon;
I love so much to hear him croon.
At night he carols to the moon.
If you are lucky you might hear
the songs he sings most loud and clear;
he plans to make it his career
with performances both far and near.
He will audition sometime soon,
accompanied by his pal baboon
who plays a really mean bassoon;
I know they'll make the critics swoon.
I guess I'll have to go along
and keep long lists of all his songs
and iron his wardrobe of sarongs,
protect him from the cheering throngs.
He seems excited, that's for sure;
he never has been too demure.
He keeps asking for a new coiffure,
a glitter mani- and pedicure.
Last night that crazy old raccoon
sucked on a helium balloon
and ate way too much crab Rangoon,
said he planned to change his tune.
He switched his genre to rock and roll,
thinks he can sing with a lot of soul;
winning American Idol his one goal
with its million dollar prize bankroll.
Things are getting out of hand;
the raccoon's plans are just too grand;
I wish he'd join the forest band
and forget this superstar status plan.
Success can never come too soon
to a want-to-be Las Vegas tycoon
who dreams of a big penthouse saloon,
Ka-thump-a-loon, my pet raccoon.

Thump, thump, thump,
I can hear the choppers
They are inbound
Med Evac
Another day in the bush
Another man down
I throw out a flare
It’s a hot LZ
Small arms fire
From a sniper
In a tree
Sitting in front of the TV
I watch the war
In full HD
I can see the fear
The talking heads
Say we are losing the war
The minds and souls
Are not on our side
We are the invaders
Sent to enforce democracy
Not necessarily to practice it
Thump, thump, thump,
The mortar rounds closing in
Wish I were anywhere but here
Skipper looks worried
As the radio squawks
Unfriendlies are inside the wire
Lock and load
It’s going to be a long night
I wish those talking heads
Were here to fight
Hope I’m still here
At first light
I put on my slippers
And head off to bed
Not knowing the truth
But feeling so dead
Leeches and communist
Are sucking me dry
I wish Ho Chi Minh
Had never been born
Stalin and Hitler
Just bad dreams
From the blue
I sleep in a fog
Next to my dog
Outside my window
There’s a sound
In the fog
Thump, thump, thump, thump …

Free verse
Tactile oscillations that are caused by vibrating sound,
Crash into my eardrums until plugs for them are found.
Audible affronts to human hearing creates cacophony,
Someone says run for you life and that’s good enough for me.
The noise that’s being generated can bring damage to your brain,
They haven’t come to the chorus yet, they’re still playing the refrain.
I saw this band perform this once and many people died,
Their eyeballs melted on their shoes and then their brains were fried.
This has got to be the greatest concert that I’ve ever felt,
That guitar solo that he just played is going to raise a welt.
I can’t wait to buy this song and then drive around the town,
With the volume cranked up all the way and my windows all rolled down.

Thump, Thump, Thump
I fell in love with a tree stump.
One look at her and I had a hard lump.
She batted her eyes at me and my heart went kerplunk.
For her love and admiration, I’d smell like a million skunks.
In a tub of ice water, for her I’d take a dunk.
To me that girl is more than just a stump.
She makes my heart go thump thump thump!

One Little Thump
(Ottava-Rima )
Lord can you please give them a little thump
They only need a reality check
It does not have to be a major bump
I'm only asking for a little peck
You certainly don't have to leave a bump
Just enough to cause them to be a wreck
They maybe they can see how others feel
We have feelings also and they are real

Donald J. Trump gave the market a bump
"My financial smarts made all the stocks jump!"
Then he bet on the Wall
Let the government stall
Now this chump's made the market go thump!

Thump, thump...thump
Hear that?
Of course you can...it's for your ears
It's the sounds of love juices flowing through my veins
Through my heart, through my soul
Exiting...for you
And...
Thump, thump...thump
For all...everyone
My fellow...
Beings
Thump, thump...
Thump
Thump, thump...

With a click and a clack our seat belts were on,
Then the thump of the closing door,
And the key turned slow in the hole that it owned,
Then the engine, it let out a roar.
Our tyres screeched free as we sped out of town,
As we fled across hills painted green,
We took nothing, zip, nought, no food, no bags,
Nope nothing, not even sunscreen.
Four hours went whoosh when we drove straight ahead,
Drove to the beach bright and blue.
There we stood in the waves, just stood and relaxed,
We’d escaped for the day. You should too....
