Best Tests Poems
This life is full of challenges and tests ~
It's mere preparation for what's to follow
when our souls transcend into the butterflies
that they are meant to become in afterlife.
AP: Honorable Mention 2025
Pen flies when out of sight,
Boy, I hope that I'm right.
No award for me,
What a shame that'd be,
At least I gave it all my might.
Shakespeare would have failed Naplan,
That was not in his cunning plan,
Yes, his folks would have him tutored,
To make young Billy become more learned,
He would have lost all his homework,
Billy so did not want extra work,
Shakespeare, that teen scallywag,
It was total fun, such a lad.
Now Shakespeare is a wraith,
Why, Billy, Why? Teens sayeth,
As they serially fail literacy tests,
Why not abolish that Billy pest?
Tragic heroes and drama queens,
That's the teens writing essays on such scenes,
While Billy failed in literacy,
Teens do sense such hypocrisy.
Third grader is braiding her hair in an elaborate way.
Not students are supposed to do on testing day.
I do not care, keeping my opinions about this test at bay.
Validity of this idiotic waste of time has plenty of frivolous fray.
They were just venting
Needed someone to talk to
As time goes by
The pile of lessons built high
Emotional, worries
The time lapsed
The journey seemed long
All sources are gone.
Venting through technology
Social gatherings amongst
Studies of Sociology, and Psychology
Education overwhelmed
Grades were just passing
All other subjects did not matter.
Until one-day classes were dismissed
The time had come
Another day beginning
Now near the ending
The lessons and tests were done.
Final tests, final grades, one hundred
Graduation day amazed.
Studies of hard work
Years of education
Communication, Appreciation
Awesome submitted applications
Extraordinary resumes
Determination, Evaluation
Expectation, representation.
Six figure salary
Businesses established
Opened a blessed Art Gallery.
Multiple businesses were created
They made it.
The passing test.
Note: For the person that seems like education is getting overwhelming and hard. Striving, and doubting? Do your best. Passing tests. Thesis created.
Tests, tests, tests,
We really do our very best,
Revising for hours,
Can't marking be ours?
Can't teachers do tests,
instead of picking on us,
And let us go home early on the bus.
But oh tests, tests after test,
We always do our very best,
Every week and every day,
"Down with tests!" I say.
The civilization of askers
Waits in the world of deciders
The queues tend to go faster
The lost need to find their finders
Any road needs an excavation
Some fenced pits of debris
What looks clean needs contamination
Regardless if some may disagree
I need to take my annual tests
Maybe I’ll get new prescriptions
I won’t mind to get more rest
Can’t give you a thorough description
How do I feel about this old day
In the world of deciders
The askers should know their place, they say
Maybe the web needs more spiders.
S Sorriest type of assessment
T Two answers always sound right; one is author’s idea of more right.
A Assumes we have identical life experiences, exposed to same words
N No one likes them- not the students, teachers or parents
D Do not guess, but what to do when you have no idea whatsoever?
A Assumes students have computer skills and typing skills.
R Ridiculously limited as to what they are measuring
D Depressing to students who do not test well or have test anxiety
I I believe portfolios are a better indicator of student accomplishment
Z Zany questions never asked in real life, strange vocabulary also
E Excellent grade for ten students per school, demoralizing to the others
D Depressing to the student who gets a low score.
T Teachers threatened by their students’ test scores, tied to evaluations.
E Every parent needs to say “No, thank you."
S Students are over-tested before the real test.
T Teachers cringe when they see their students’ test results
S Students feel badly when they get a low score
Revision revision revision
There is no decision
When it comes to exams you
need to stop. learn and revise
because it is the only way to become
number ONE!
The journey may not be fun
But in 10 years time you'll be
in a penthouse with your hun
So stop, wait a minute
hit the books get your head in it
Turn your phone off, close the door
That way you can't get distracted anymore
Listen to my voice
You don't have a choice
Follow this path and you
wont be the needed but
you will provide
You can save the World tomorrow
But revise tonight
For all the tests on our life
Fight after fight, challenge after challenge, test after test.
While were in this life it will never stop, its inevitable, like the sun rising day after day.
I feel weaker with every hit, yet ironically stronger too?
I could be deemed as miserable or always looking at the negative, but without the bad we cannot appreciate the good and pretending everything is okay does not make the bad go away and does not serve any purpose. We must embrace all this life throws at us in ode to grow in body and in mind.
Hit after hit yet I still stand with my head held hi, a presence surrounds me as if it was sent from the sky, my head may be bloody an my body beat an bruised, but something inside me still shines and grows everyday for darkness cannot shine in light but the smallest of lights shines in the darkness.
Good neighbors, sweet friends, Can you forgive me?
In long, still and creeping hours of study,
I can be stern and inaccessible.
My studies tax me to basest function,
resting, weight-like, on my wretched shoulders.
I, too-weary, ebb and at times, tend to
spare few feelings and gall, as if licensed.
Sometimes I go, unwillingly to class,
a melancholy lass. Please, if we talk,
speak gently. I labor under command,
and you may not be answered with reason.
Hereby hangs the tale, ladies just and fair.
Sleep, that dark medicine, has restored me,
my sanity and my better judgment.
Patiently receive my apology
and recall our many fun adventures.
TESTS
IN LIFE I FACE A THOUSAND TESTS
I'M NOT SURE WHY I DO
I'VE ALWAYS HAD TO PROVE MYSELF JUST TO MAKE IT THROUGH
AT HOME I HAD TO TOW THE LINE
AT SCHOOL I COULDN'T FALL BEHIND
AT WORK I HAD TO BE ON TIME
WHAT MUST I PROVE TO YOU
YOU SAY I SHOULDN'T FEEL THIS WAY THAT I MUST SEE INSTEAD
THE THINGS I THINK I HAVE TO PROVE
ARE ONLY IN MY HEAD
YET TO LOVE YOU I MUST BE A KNIGHT
IN SHINING ARMOUR, POISED TO FIGHT
AGAINST YOUR DRAGONS FOR THE RIGHT
TO KEEP YOU IN MY BED
SO TELL ME NOW BEFORE TOO LATE
HOW MANY TESTS I'LL FACE, BEFORE I'M SAFE WITHIN YOUR HEART
AND I CAN END THIS RACE
SO MANY TIMES I'LL HAVE TO RUN
TO PROVIDE THE THINGS THAT YOU CALL FUN
I'LL BE SO WORN OUT WHEN I'M DONE
I'LL END UP IN LAST PLACE
WELL NOW IT'S TIME FOR ME TO SEE
HOW MUCH I MEAN TO YOU
I'M GOING TO STOP AND WATCH A WHILE TO SEE WHAT YOU WILL DO
YOUR INEXPERIENCE IS SUCH
I REALLY DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH
I ONLY WANT YOUR HEART TO TOUCH
TO KNOW YOU LOVE ME TOO.
The computerized MAP test
Who could take it seriously?
Not even norm-referenced
A state test, only in Missouri
I watch a fourth grader complete his
Answering forty-two questions in seven minutes
Hooray for him I think
Feed the mind,
It’s so cluttered,
Left behind,
I’ll murmur to you,
Feeling the truth,
Left inside,
I’m along for the ride,
Tonight we release,
This night, full of peace,
Freedom drips,
From every pore,
Feeling sore,
From past wounds,
It’s coming soon,
The day of reckoning,
The day of decision,
Destiny rides with us,
Dragging us along,
We’re never wrong,
We need the resolution,
We need a revolution,
Rise up,
Refuse all you know,
To live,
Just live.
If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?" taken from The Merchant of Venice, Act 3 Scene 1
