Here lies Sidney Snoozer, a lover of sleep,

His last nap eternal – relaxed, six foot deep.

Sidney Poitier

How are the Lilies of the Field
Above without Heat of the Night
A Raisin in the Sun shall brew
To Sir, with Love...A Patch of Blue

Freddy the Fly Meets Sidney the Spider

Freddy the Fly
Meandering on
the ceiling one day,
Suddenly got a "heads up!"

He glimpsed from
three hundred or so,
Of his left side eyes,
A sight guaranteed
To make a fly's fear
rise.

For there was Sidney
The Spider...
Just "Hanging Around"
On his "Web Site"
Couple of sets of
Spider eyes,
Watching a Spider delight...

A potential self delivered meal
What a Spider deal!!!

He waved to Freddy
In a "Come Hither" way,
With as close to
a smile, a spider
is able to make...

But Freedy was
a "Fly Of The World"
And knew an invitation
He should not take...

So Freddy buzzed around
In teasing Sid,
Turns out,
A dumb thing he did...

Suddenly a psssstt...
A mist,
By Black Flag spray,
This fly was kissed.

He spiralled down
In a fly crash landing
Found himself...
Barely standing...

He survived, but now had
Em-fly-sema
His wings would never again
Flap as fast...

He resolved venvenge
On evil Sidney...
For distracting him so much...
He'd find a way to take
The day...
There would be revenge's
touch.

Premium Member Sidney Poitier---To Sir, With Love

Against the odds, among the brave, his class was not defined by race
Talent can never be confined by color, race, nor faith, or time
He climbed his way with dignity within a world of bigotry,
and found acclaim, while making waves, when racial boundaries
fanned the flames
He earned a place in history

He raised the bar, and paved the road. He played each part with brilliancy
He bore the load and carved a path, with courage and humility
In a racist world, he earned respect, where few before had found a way

He crawled inside each role he played, and gave them life, from deep within
He wore the skin of many men, with a courageous, calm insistence
One early role, that stirred the pot, was a plot pledged to his love's fair skin
Yes! Shocking some!!.....But soon he'd find, applause for wedging understanding
A cause that spiraled racial growth, and better yet, acceptance

Another role where deadlocked chains, with ankles bound, two fugitives
while on the run, we cheered them on........and viewers too, unlocked old ways

"To Sir, With Love" above, beyond, his art would teach us how to change

"Mister Tibbs!!"........he said it clear!!....."Don't call me BOY! Don't you dare!"
We believed in what we heard, courageous rage, that we could cheer!

He sang with nuns while we clapped hands.......they built a church in desert sand

He won awards for gentle grace, and won a place in history
He warmed the screen with soul and truth, and paved the way for striving youth
who want to be a legend too, be it black or white or green or blue

Bahamian bred, Defiant One, Ambassador, Freedom's reward

Against all odds, he logged his time, to change the tide of narrow minds
A winsome smile, with deeper lines, that swayed the Lillies of the Field...

He was a fugitive against a time, when racial tones were bound by chains

Knighted By the Queen (Call Me Sir Sidney)

I was knighted by the queen, I think
When I gate crashed the ball wearing pink
She said “goodnight I say”
“Guards take him away”
Due to the over indulgence of drink

Sir Sidney C. Hall Esq

Here lies Sir Sidney C. Hall
Bald as a baby caused he mowed it
Knighted by the asylum matron, “The Mad Poet”
Considered by many as being funny
To the ladies his lyrics were milk and honey
Here lies Sir Sidney C. Hall
Loved by women for been well hung, not small
And as this may sound profound
By weight of them he was buried at a 45 degree angle in the ground

Premium Member Audrey and Sidney - a Class of Their Own

Two stars of a former age
they were a class of their own
superlatives cover them all over
bound for stardom before been known

Firstly a real lady of regal renown
Ms. Hepburn indeed Audrey by name
this lady was an actress so lovely
so attractive even before her true fame

'Breakfast in Tiffanys' and 'Funny Face'
fab movies along with 'Roman Holiday'
Belgium born in '29, passed away in '93
such a loss at 63, still with memories today

Now to make the perfect movie match
Sidney Poitier comes on the scene
one extraordinary human being indeed
and a mighty fine actor to have seen

So influential in so many movies
bringing hope to those of his colour
breaking the racial barriers of his day
such inspiration fully technicolor

'Guess who's coming to dinner'
the movie that brought SP fame
I love it, love to watch it again
renowned for making his name

(Sidney Poitier (1927-2022)

Some thoughts on two of the finest movie stars and human beings who walked this earth, so just some thoughts on the highlights of their lives.)

For Sidney Hall

Thanx quite kindly Sidney Hall...
'Twas pleazure mine to you enthrall...
Now 'tis so... mine the turn...
To midnite lamp... so to burn...

I'll burn that wick to very end...
As your rimes of mind with time I'll spend...
Such of course will fuel my fire...
To pen again of your desire...

For as we know to be certain sure...
The thought as rime is e'er the lure...
Such then so 'tis our fate...
To live for that which we may create.

*RIP Mister Poitier*
I was honored to have had a one-on-one intro with Mr. Poitier, in 1977, Oakland, CA. I found him to be a passionate man of his industry and one who bears a considerable measure of compassion ... he will be sorely missed.

Surrounded by loved ones, Poitier died at his Beverly Hills home in California of cardiopulmonary failure, (02/20/27-01/06/22) at 94.

Premium Member Sidney Cat

Sidney Cat****

Here is another cat in this home’s
trying herd, who wears his fur
with a shiny, pretentious pride (for
which, of course, there is no cautioning word
to hint to him about humility, because
there isn’t a cat alive who’s done more
than nap upon a bible) and
Sidney has his mirror at
the front in his mind,
which keeps Sidney’s mews
a self-admiring sweet and his
chin tipped up ever higher
upon any glance to note his mood or
for all moves to scratch his back.

Sidney Cat can stretch up to quake
every inch, every fiber of
the who he is.
Sidney prizes
his high arch and his hiss,
which he demonstrates
at every jarring surprise
coming within a tail’s reach
to disturb his peace…

But, Sidney will lie out on
a warm day’s patio with
his eyes gathering in all sights.
Strangely, tho, Sidney Cat simply
gazes, staying still, as a speckled
sparrow settles on a nearby stone
to consume wind-blown sunflower seeds…
while Sidney, it seems, restrains
from chasing off any bird, perhaps
because while he exalts his fearsome hiss
and outstanding speed,
he truly has realized
 wonder
for birds’ talent to soundlessly,
instantly fly away
while Sidney prefers to twitch
his superb whiskers…
and watch!
