In the pantheon of Hollywood legends, he's at top tier
With 1963 Best Actor Oscar win, he made history;
First Black actor, and black folks reveled in his victory

Wonderful tribute, Edward! Truly sadden by this bit of news today that I've just learned, having met him at our Oakland hotel in, 1977 where I chimed an eager bellman, Tom Hanks, to escort him to his suite. Ten years after, I considered his 3 best hits, "To Sir...", "In the Heat...", and "Guess Who's..." He was a kind-hearted, gentle soul -- He certainly belongs up there! Aloha~aka William, moving forward in life.

A great actor who will be sorely missed. I loved him in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." I thought of writing an epitaph for him, but glad I didn't. You did it soooo well, Edward.
