Best Shattering Poems
Uncomplicated me
I thought I was colour blind
free thinking and kind
with an evolved mind
Loving and accepting
of the ones I find
Yet my blindness
Is that of privilege
I'm just a visitor
in the Global village
From my narrow thin mind
there is too much spillage
Although so many
are forced from their homes
My life seems carefree
I am deaf to the groans
Brown women wearing veils
that can't protect them from stones
I live in a white washed place
No "Freedom Marches"
for men of a different race
Yet, if I look back and trace
there are darker stories to face
We all took part in shameful things
Yes, we share in the disgrace.
Highways of tears
Rivers of shame
There's always
someone else to blame
Residential schools
Each child got a new name
They were forced to forget
the place from where they came
Prisons filled
with black and red skinned men
They can't forget
this now or that then
Promises and promises
but who how and when
Or will their children
have to live it all over again
So yes
No longer colour blind
With the opening of my mind
I let colour seep in
Starting somewhere different
today I begin
Because I know
it shouldn't be
just the privileged who win!

My wrapper loose day after day
My motion and emotion unstable
I forget to think
But I wasn’t drunk
I remember in a trance
Stable I was
My wrapper tight on my torso
Not divulging the firm breasts
I remember vividly when it began to loose
Days turned nights
The sun withheld its radiance
I mourned unending
Breasts tumor I had
Oh! The pain hurts
One more ill has befallen me
A spinster at 50
Severally dumped I was
By men on trial
The life I live was wreaked
My heart fell apart
Picking up the fossils
Amidst courage and optimism
Dreadful incidence I traversed
Since my birth, early 60’s
Aargh! I’m bigoted
But utmost myopic
I wasn’t sleeping
Merely a spinster’s vision
When at 52
Men on trial returned
I had miscarriages
Pains were inflicted
53, I would be
The wrapper has slipped off
Revealing the sagging breasts
My legacy is gone
I’ve missed my menses
I’ve wept all day
I pled against miscarriage
But all hope is not lost
Because I’m pregnant!
OMEBE RITA
Without counting the pendulum swings
I fall from trees without leaves for I am simply the bird
Don’t you know what it feels like to kiss the horizon
I am at a crossroads so why not play tic tac toe?
I fall from trees without leaves for I am simply the bird
With you becoming the silver wrapped around my finger
I am at a crossroads so why not play tic tac toe?
For your footsteps turn to rust like the heart you left them on
With you becoming the silver wrapped around my finger
I reach to tie my shoes but they are knotted together
Your footsteps turn to rust like the heart you left them on
I still know the sun tells me to hide my heart
I reach to tie my shoe but they are knotted together
The mirror of my soul is prone to shattering
I still know the sun tells me to hide my heart
I only listen to what keeps me silent
The mirror of my soul is prone to shattering
You have forced me to fade out like a firefly
I only listen to what keeps me silent
My eyes are soaked from weeping willows
The mirror of my soul is prone to shattering
A Diamond Shattering Death
Diamonds shattering just behind her family's door
for the life of her dear father is no more!
Fate set it's seal too early upon her young life,
results of a great tragedy born of mental strife.
Death brought shadows blocking out healing light
no more beautiful sunrise, as all is darkest night.
Wickedly, it's daggers into that soul deeply cut,
aches and pain sole companions in that black rut.
So very relentless are such deep heartache blues,
often birthed on strange paths one did not choose.
Father lost in desperation of mental illness's haze
poison taken ending his painful and confusing days.
Silently reading from the one great spiritual book
a mourning, soulful repose daughter then took
Seeking solace as she gazed into another realm,
seeking rescue ship, her beloved Savior at the helm!
Robert J. Lindley, 5-14-2014
Note: Poem is about one of the greatest and most grievous
tragedies in life. Although nobody in my family from either
side ever did such a thing, I saw its devastation on my
best friend/schoolmate back when I was only 12 years old.
His father ended his own life in that way(shot himself).
After that his character completely changed and since that
day in 1966 sadly, two of his brothers and four of his cousins
have done the same. Such tragedy in one family is impossible
for me to truly understand.
Shattering Symbols
Sometimes I feel shattered between symbols,
A musician crashes me side to side,
I plan quiet and peaceful meditation,
Then life takes me for an unscheduled ride.
The world comes down with its pressing problems,
The symbols clang and squeeze my aching head;
Musicians’ drums beating, so demanding;
Oh, for soft pianissimo instead.
The breeze and wind songs of flute and oboe,
Hover the symbols’ overbearing blare;
With sweetness overwhelm the symbols’ thrust,
Then sweet life’s harmony returns its flair.
Everywhere Walt Disney birds are tweeting,
A musical garden perfumes the air.
My heart is shattering,
Shattering like falling glass,
Can't be healed,
Created by my best friend,
Can't heal this shattered torn heart,
Can't put it back together.
Why can't you see Caleb, I
need you to be here for me,
Please stop this shattering
In my heart?
Please heal these wounds,
Heal this heart,
Make it pump blood,
Again, make it perfect.
Shattered heart,
I'm gone forever,
Six feet under is
Where my body remains. I was buried alive.
SHATTERING THE SHACKLES…
(APROPOS RESURRECTION)…
I shall no longer be your tragedy
or divine comedy;
Nor the phantom pain of the fake penitence
you proclaim.
I will no longer wallow in despair
nor put down the me inside.
Today, I am a phoenix rising
from the ashes of shame; rising
From the ‘buked and the scorn of today!
I am the new sunshine of the old rain,
created and molded
By God’s hands; anointed to bring back
peace and the love; and
To shatter the shackles from children’s minds.
Today I am the needle.
The needle in the eye of injustice;
the needle re-stitching the ripped veil
Re-stitching the ripped veil of our unity:
regaining community.
I am the new child of the old songs the ancestors sung:
a healing hymn!
I am the new talking drum…echoing…
de dump…de dump…de dump…
“And before I be a slave,
I’ll be buried in my grave;
And go home to my Lord
And be free.”
Yes, I am a new day begun. The dream’s reality won.
And I shall not be moved.
I shall walk the green mile as a new Nile child
And by His hands,
I shall survive the tribulations and the trial.
By His hand,
I am the new light of the day, guiding us along the way.
Send me I said!
Roll of thunder…echo my cry. Roll of thunder echo my shout!
Rise! My people…Rise!…
Let Peace and Love ring out! Shout!
Shattering roses
In the sea mercilessly,
Voiding our hearts
And thoughts of emotion transfixing
Apathy and lacking empathy of me,
Or of we disintegrating into the sands of a perplexed
Individuality
Such is the fate of, I
The individuality
SHATTERING and CRASHING
An embattled moment gets frozen in time
As an angry storm destroys a glass wind chime
The last noise that it made was a shrill scream
As if its whole existence was worked up to it's own shattering
Being human we are designed to pick up the pieces
Even though we risk cuts in finger creases
A cut so quick and subtle you don't even feel
But a cut in the crease takes the longest to heal
Blind men flip rocks in the river
Distraught with a muddy position
While the bank upstream offers
A crystal clear vision
It's soothing to the soul to see whats what
Don't throw that rock till you leave your glass hut
Even though your target seems to be in perfect view
Your world will come crashing down around you
O' I Wept, Tears Shattering Broken Souls
I wept hard from noon until late midnight,
feelings for her loss, no other has known,
for lost vision of her face in cool morns;
and sweet, gentle moments her love brought flight.
That day, sun fell into scathing abyss,
her dear soul touch my hand the last time,
she had been my steady rock, my true heart;
earthen angel I shall forever miss.
Looking into closed eyes for a clear sign,
for her love and its soothing warmth anew,
nothing came, not even that beaming smile;
not needed words- "you will always be mine".
O' I wept, tears shattering broken souls
Where epic depths of lonesome sadness blows!

Note- My first poem of the new year and you had to know it would be a sonnet..
Shattering
Parts of me are shattered
The skies are bartered
The grounds do not recognize me
The fire of love are distinguished
Call me
A glass which is now broken
The parts of me are not to be found
The mirrors are empty from you
Parts of me are shattered
Parts of me are shattered!
I open my heart
And fall part
Into pieces
That all will start
Building up out statue of love
You’re everything I wanted
You’re my white dove
Your giggles make me smile
Are time together is worth the while
Your sweetness is all but mild
Your love is what turns the dial
The clock ticks day by day
My thoughts of you never go away
You’re not sure how I feel
But this love…is so real
I really rather not wait
But it’s only time, in till that date!
But you loved me for the girl i was
Not the girl i am nor the girl i was becoming
Not loving me with my flaws
But loving me for my flaws
So together you can tie me down
You wrapped me in your poisonous arms
And whispered sweet nothings in my ears
You suffocated me with your toxic charm
And made me believe it was love that i feared
You loved me for my brokenness
For the shards of my shattered dreams
You loved me for my vulnerability
For the weaknesses that made me scream
You loved me for my dependence on you
For the way i couldn't breathe without you
You loved me for my loss of identity
For the way i lost myself in you
But I'm breaking from your toxic grasp
I'm learning to love myself,to heal, to mend
I'm finding my voice, my strength, my way
And I'm leaving you and your toxic love to decay
Your love was a prison, a chain that bound
But I'm shattering the shackles,I'm spreading my wings
I'm flying awag from your toxic embrace
And I'm finding my own way , my own pace
Stepping through these shadows wherein somber does so dwell?!
Peering into the pangs of bleak in this its, vectors abode....
Chained, unto sorrows void and cast amid the dungeons of grims
Poisoned paths, to bind these Spirits and all their dreams; shattered
Poured into distant eyes bleeding shards of perditions broken plight
Being carved within wailings walls screaming their buried alive....
Gasping for breath aneath this claimed by the darkened night; Yet
Through the hands of Ancient's knowing wisdom has thus now arrived
A bright light, to loose these shackles borne afore, predestined tides!?
Fire and flames and love and time, to set, the captives free....
