Men enjoy the smell of Camel cigarettes at the check-in counter
just like they enjoy the sound of bones tapping on wood
in the late AM in the hallways. Stilettos are from God.
Then, the slow tapping at his door. The heart beats more.
The drunkenness of his eye. They enjoy.
Spider-like, how both women with dyed
blonde hair and coarse, rubicund skin
crawl to John on the bed.
The strange car downstairs with lights on still waits outside.
The women begin to kiss each other’s lips.
One with a small bump above her lip
quickly hooks her fingers at the top edge of his pants.
One bends down in front of him. The other, with her hands, touches what is sacred.
The rickety sound of the window air conditioner shakes and rattles.
The old stench in the carpet swells.
Outside, the rain begins to pour sideways. It bangs dramatically on the roof.
The man working the late shift behind the front counter
with an old, small TV on his lap is drunk again.
A sound of something on the floor moves. He lazily opens his eyes and sees nothing and closes them.
A light-skinned, middle-aged black man in a car parked car outside
with the windshield wipers still on waits in silence.
His body is slumped towards the steering wheel, gun in his hand
as if he was waiting for a sign to make a move if he had to.

Lyric
Was the moon in a bad mood?
It came up from over the horizon
Dark red, deep rubicund.
It rose slowly
Following its normal pattern.
Still dark red, erubescent
As if in anger.
I sat on the pusillanimous sand, alone.
Moody and irritable.
Now she had left.
And I'm sad and angry,
Unlike the wavelets
That flowed over the rim of the beach.
There will be no peace between us.
Still the moon shone
Dark red.

Tanned bright sienna leaves float down gently,
Yellow and red and brown are aplenty;
Everywhere I go I'm drenched in leaf rain,
One by one they fall, all over again;
Raking up the fallen leaves, I'm dancing,
Along with the wind that's slow romancing;
Whistling with the breeze blowing through the trees,
Vermillion and burgundy weave with ease;
Claret auburn shades I see everywhere,
Autumn is here with its rubicund fair.

(A Chain Verse)
'Tis a special night
Night of the blood moon
Moon's shimmering light
Light so softly strewn
Strewn across the lawn
Lawn shines crimson now
Now, that's why I'm drawn
Drawn to darkened brow
Brow of the hills glows
Glows erubescent
Erubescent pose
Pose that's pearlescent
Pearlescent blushing
Blushing round moon face
Face with joy gushing
Gushing with good grace
Grace rubicund pours
Pours on the hushed earth
Earth and all its shores
Shores swell with moon's mirth
Mirth of the moonbeams
Moonbeams' ruddy reach
Reach my pleasant dreams
Dreams that all bounds breach
Breach my world, red moon
Red moon rising slow
Slow my heartbeat's tune
Tune of carmine glow

He was laboriously looking
for that one perfect peach
with soft salubrious skin,
radiantly rounded with
robust, rubicund curves,
crying to be caressed,
coddled and cuddled.
Her bashfully blushing rosy red
cheeks on pale peach skin
immediately caught his attention
as she sat right there for the picking!
Oh, to kiss those juicy joyful
lovely lips, again and again!
She stood out among her friends
who were gathered in hues of green. . .
For she was ruddy, regal
and romantically ripe--his type!
Her body sweetly, softly stimulating,
and so tantalizingly tender to the touch;
Her sensual scent, pure peach!
When he held her in his arms
and she coyly conversed,
he had vestige visions of
copious cobbler on his mind!

Unrequited Soliloquies Of The Heart
Estranged
By M. Taha Effendi
(Sonnet)
As I walk along the twilit avenue,
A forlorn heart bids the day adieu,
The rubicund sun withdraws its weary
gaze,
Surrenders its quest of endless days,
Vagrant clouds drift to uncharted lands,
Twilight steals a last glance through
evening's hands,
The gloaming emblazoned with pink and
gray hue,
As I walk along the twilit avenue,
The west wind wails in melancholy,
A lonely river seeks the embrace of the
sea,
Unchained melodies of the solitaire's
refrain,
That has emptied love's hemlock to the
drains,
Unrequited soliloquies of the heart
estranged,
Nature's course, onerous, unchanged,

Senryu
Have you ever noticed how
raunchy our children can smell?
Like the stench that arises
from, say, a rotting seashell.
It's true; cohabitation
can impose a certain stink.
But family ignores it,
despite what others might think.
Sometimes a polite request
is personal and discreet.
And other times, dad might yell,
for God's sake, go wash your feet.
Baths are most often paid for
when odors can't be ignored.
Perhaps you'll offer a toy
or some treat as a reward.
When they sit on an incline,
foul gasses tend to leak out.
And with a rubicund blush,
they'll blame the dog, no doubt.
We have learned to tolerate
most odors floating around.
But those silent, deadly farts
are the grossest smell, hands down.

No rooster crowed the tenebrous morning
I woke to somber skies aflame.
As dawn rose across a crimson horizon,
a firestorm blazed from a golden core
and scarlet lava flowed above the plains.
Charred, were black mordant clouds.
Menancingly, they swept over my barn.
A rubicund threat; a hazard to the earth,
an inferno; a warning of ill-fated death.
Terror filled me as fire encroached,
knowing I would become a torch,
kindled when scorching embers approached
to ignite me, rendering a fight for life futile.
Laughter heard as I became ribbons of smoke.
Soon, my ashes would be airborne,
and all that would remain of me would be
carried on the whim of the wayward wind.

October trees, they sway in the wind
A tangerine tango that taunts the tinges
October leaves, they swirl in the breeze
A vermilion whirligig that vaunts the whispers
October hues, they swagger the mind
A rubicund rollicking that haunts the shadows
October scenes, they sweep the heart
A garnet gambol that daunts the artists
October skies, they swarm the soul
A titian twinkle that flaunts God’s blessings

Pale ghost of Autumn,
Deep wrinkles on her weathered face...
Poor relation of her rubicund cousins,
Never chosen for jack-o-lantern ...
But inside, where it matters,
Her blushing flesh tastes of Summer,
Warm,
Sweet,
Golden Summer.

A Moral Sonnet
A big crow and a sparrow which had painted itself
In the colour of the big bird to appear masterful became
Good friends as the both suffered from bombastic
Self-believe and they make a pact to kill the ageing eagle
And his brood the did and by doing so killed millions of lesser
Birds which in despair turned and pecked each other
The sand became rubicund and from a distance looked like
A carpet for kings and potentates
From the eastern states, vultures came to feed and defend
To get the big crow and the pretend one, off their land
The crow flew home the false one had a mud bath to look
Like common sparrows but is of no avail the sparrows that
Had danced with the crow was shunned and travel from
Country to country and is sleepless in expensive houses-.

The sounds of tuba and trombone, viola and violin
Drew one and more into Dance Times Inn
The space was full so speed and soon
All jocund in the joy of June!
The serious sets of tens of twos
Could easily make such excited news
And as they went on with their ride
Tom and Tina went missing outside.
And as they feared where went Tom
And also wondered Tina has gone home
The duo came back shamed and shy
They nervously looked with a rubicund eye.
Some dust was seen on her head and back
Her skirt with many a black jack
His jeans was stained with dirt at knee
And the game was tough as you can see.
