AWAKE ~ IN and OUT ~

Spring arising, before morning light,
I walk under the new epic sun
The aroma of yesterday, gone
Today's the day that will follow tomorrow
I quickly walk a certain walk
Unique is all I can display
Watery eyes staying in the past
While vehicles pass and pass
Crosses lacking faith
I stay awake and mend with my fate
Foggy toys, I want to play
I can't keep up with all your kicks
I look, I stare, at the walls
Bright and early, I step on old dolls
I stay and feel, the way you want
Lifeless, and still so full of energy
Mad words, unconscious forces
My sweet needs, now reside inside of you
Mad, sad, and outside the box
You close every door and keep me away from dark

You only allow me to feel your morning light
Why can't you let me see what's behind the shadows?
Why do you turn on all the lights?

I'm here the way you want me to be
Happy, and merry, for the world to see
This blindness will continue to spot
Unless you wake up first and remove the dot
You gave me the thirst, you once knew
So filthy, so full of -spew
Under this closed freaking door
I'm exposed like the midday sun
You bang my head on the wall,
You killed me in a way that made me feel!
I only answer to your call
In and out a hoop~ like a ball
In me, you can not find any real dreams!
Inside you filled me with a raging scream

Sssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I'm in wonder around your air castle
Strange and hung on your mantle
Stepping on a one footed slave

Alert, alert Am I!!!
I shake, we kiss, I wake,
You sleep...........................
I zip all things into one zipper.
Pounding my hands against my ears
Crazy, taking a jab upon all jabs
Crazy, you say~ that's me everyday
I'm up and I caress the photo we once had
I lay only staring at you once more
I awake before I sleep
Your promises I keep
In me~ you are also in deep
My stars change everyday
Waiting for you, to pull the trigger
Still wishing to be a sun digger

You can't touch or loosen the knots
Together we will daydream our way to the top
I make your nerve system come alive,
We run into the wind and listen
Quietly in our chamber of thoughts
Near and far, we both nod off
In this daily race, with no face
No space,
I caught myself awake,
The day I fell asleep for you.

WHAT? Oh, for cryin' out loud dude, not again! Nod off for one lousy hour and off go them mangy sheep. Now I ain't paid near enough to hafta chase these meanderin' beasts all over God's green earth. Shoot man, I got a life. Well, not really. But listen, I get me some serious leg cramps if I hafta walk more than a hundred feet.
I know exactly what happened. It's that Norman again. Black sheep if there ever was one. Fancies himself some sorta substitute shepherd. Like I ain't good enough for y'all. Really??? You see this scar on my ankle? Got that fightin' off some nasty ol' wolf for y'uns. Well, okay, not a wolf per say, but one mean chipmunk fosho fosho.

NORMAN? NORMAN! NOW YOU BRING THOSE DANG SHEEP BACK HERE RIGHT THIS DAGGONE MINUTE!

Oh, what's the use. Never could get those stubborn sheep to listen. Always whinin' 'bout somethin' or another. Heck, I only use the beatin' stick when they give me no choice. Why, just last week they were all a bleatin' and a baain' jus' cuz I hadn't taken them to pasture for two days. You know what? I skip meals all the time. Big babies. Anyhoo, there they was makin' a racket, so I started crackin' 'em upside the head. Next thing I know they be givin' me a hateful stare like they be wantin' to gangsta me right on da spot. Now you know that ain't right.
Ugh! I give up. It's almost noon and I ain't had my second nap yet. Think I'll jus lie down here under this nice ol' shady willow. Yes sir, thas much better. Oof! Legs be killin' me.
(Yawn) Stinkin' sheep.

Hey, whas that rumblin' noise...

Come Dusk, Sol sinks into the pitch of Night,
till crickets drown out bellowing bullfrogs.
The sun bleeds, inking Night with blood-red light;
while woodpeckers drum on hollowed-out logs.

Splintered silhouettes silently conjoin;
flowing into ebon pools of twilight.
The sun gilds the moon, one side of the coin;
golden spheres, fueling life with their light.

Ebony cushions the whole universe,
encrusted with billions of twinkling gems.
Splendiferous pink-colored clouds disperse;
while flowers nod off, snoozing on their stems.

Tethered to time's imperceptible string,
we're somehow connected to everything.

My man was old and battered and was destined for the scrap heap
He’d failed his annual MOT as his many defects ran far too deep
His motor was still running but he had an intermittent fault
He’d nod off when we were making love – (I’d feel a sudden jolt!)

His once full head of blonde gleaming hair
Can be polished, as it now it’s thinning there
With aching joints that my man once trusted
He needed a service as his parts were rusted

So I took him to the used man showroom to see what they could do
They gave him full service to see if his parts they could renew
They said he still had many miles to go and they no longer made this model
But if I had his engine repaired he’d be going at full throttle

The trusty mechanics worked day and night
To ensure that his engine was running just right
They polished his body, now you should see it shine
He’s back to how he was now his motor is just fine!!!

If I’d trawled the showrooms would I want to replace
The one who’d stuck by me and kept a smile on my face
I’ve no wish to trade him in or keep him as a spare
After many years together there’s bound to be wear and tear!

Senescence

Just having passed another year
In quiet celebration
I was reflecting on my journey here
Feeling still quite young
Yet remembering
What a friend just had said that we
Are now senescence

This comment startled me
Into thinking of where I am and where
I am going next
How many good years, are there
For me to really enjoy
Fifteen is my guess with more
That will be an unknown chore

So little but so many
How does that compare with the first
If I act now like I’m fifteen
I would love passionately with you
Start a new first job
Lay around in a bikini in my backyard
As the years go back, I would

Do less and less
Enjoy playing more with make believe
Make cookies and eat the dough
Have books read to me
Swing in a tree for hours, daydreaming
Wish upon the moon and stars
For a peaceful night

Until I just sit in a chair in a sunny spot
Stare out the window
Nod off to sleep
Then nibble on peanut butter
Licking my spoon contentedly, still
I would want to see you again
And dream of my days beside the sea

Premium Member My Muse Is a Fair-Weather Friend

When the temperature soars
My Muse is cranky and cross
Whether in or out of doors
Meter and rhyme are quite lost

My head heavy, I'm bored
   Sweat pours off my chin
Hunched over the keyboard
What a funk I am in

To slumber I yield
I nod off for a bit
My fate surely sealed
   Poetry, I quit...

Yet switch on the a/c
   And, voile! A new me!
To the delight of my Muse --
   Cool air lights her fuse!

The Land of Nod Off and Forget

Please take off your shoes, you've entered into
The land of Nod Off And Forget
Where people try to get something done
But haven't done it yet

They forget why it is they're here
And nod off in between
They can't remember much of life
Because they sleep through the whole thing

They made for themselves a ruler
But nodded off during the vote
Forgetting who it was they chose
When it was they all awoke

So they wander around aimlessly
Not having figured it out quite yet
I'm not sure they ever will
In the land of Nod Off And Forget

He waits for chance to settle on my jeans,
This gentle relative of wild felines.
He starts to purr as he lands in my lap.
It is his preferred place to take a nap.
He paws my hand to get himself a pat,
Aware he is my beloved, pampered cat.
I know the routine, it's been well rehearsed
And wonder which of us will nod off first.

He looks at me with loving eyes of green,
A brilliant color not on humans seen.
We nestle down in comfort of my chair.
No place on earth a more contented pair.
Although my work awaits, I do not move,
For I too need a time of purrfect love.

From a BMW

Slower than snails, slower than slugs,
Holdens, Hondas, and Volkswagen bugs;
All crawling along in slow moving lanes
On the fast freeway, bypassed by the trains.

All of the views from the passenger seat
Flow as thick as treacle sweet;
And once in a while, when you nod off to sleep,
The guy behind you, his horn will beep.

There is a boy who’s desperate to pee
And he’s not by himself, there’s also me.
Here is a cafe; the sky’s getting dark,
There’s no way to stop, there’s nowhere to park.

Here is a cyclist, his bike flying past
Whizzing along, going so fast.
Here is another, and there’s one more,
I close my eyes, we’re stuck for sure.

Premium Member Nightmare On Elm Street

When we sleep we expect sweet dreams
The kind where we ride on moonbeams
Where everything is lovely and nice
Sweet dreams made of sugar and spice
So it was on Elm street that night
When children went to sleep expecting dreams of delight
Little did they know that Freddie would be there
To turn their dreams into their worst nightmares

He goes by the name of Freddie Kruger
And has claws as sharp as a cougar
 Freddie has a disfigured face
On his head a brown fedora sits in place
He wears a striped sweater of green and red
And comes to steal your soul when you're asleep in bed

So the children wouldn't sleep at night
They were in a perpetual state of fright
But sooner or later some would nod off to sleep
And come the morning you wouldn't hear a peep
In the night they had screamed and screamed
But no one heard them, it was just a dream

Premium Member Golden Gift

"Golden Gift"

sweet life as a golden retriever
a good therapy dog, stress reliever
changing lives I am called Venus de Milo
wagging my tail I shout a huge "hello".

after duties are done I speed round the yard
barking so softly while still standing guard
my friends, Thor and Thunder, are gentlemanly "Danes"
treating me like a lady while we play doggie games.

at dinner, my mistress, allows me to share
canine chow with "the guys" a midnight blue pair
we dash for the leashes for a walk in the park
enjoy greeting people till long after dark.

soon bedtime arrives and my friends paw "bye-bye"
I trot to my blanket in a basket nearby
howl goodnight to the Moon as I nod off to rest
tomorrow duty calls and I must look my best!

Sadist

A frail woman walking home,
Quickly finds she's not alone.

A shudder ruptures her old bones,
As she falls to cobblestone.

Two young men without a home,
Quickly find they're not alone.

They spot an elder with a purse,
Then take the places they've rehearsed.

They duct taped her mouth and feet,
Then drug her out of the street.

They took the poor woman's cane,
Snapped it, and stabbed both her legs.

As she tried to scream and plead,
The men just laughed at their mad deed.

Then said what she'd learn to heed
"God won't clot your veins, just bleed."

Choking on her screams and tears,
Thankful that she'd faced her fears,

She clawed at her coat in dismay,
Frantically for her pepper spray.

She realized, in an instant,
She had no idea where it went.

She looked up and kicked her feet,
When her spray and eyes did meet.

Those young men had snatched it from her,
Before they'd begun their plunder.

Then she heard the sound of thunder,
As they both wound up and punched her.

Trying, but she can't nod off still,
They poured the mace down her nostrils.

Drowning now and feeling dire,
Searing screams from liquid fire.

They made her drink mercilessly,
Disregarding the gurgling.

Then shoved their dirty fingers down,
Her throat until vomit abound

Had started piling around,
And she regained her sense of sound.

She couldn't see, but heard their voices,
Contemplating all their choices.

"It comes down to two" one said,
We have fun, or leave her dead.

So They took her eyes and tongue,
And Kicked her teeth, leaving none.

They cut off every finger,
So her story only lingered,

In her head, those two so deft,
Her thoughts were all that they left.

The Cardboard Box

I built a cardboard house
that came with four large flaps.
And when they're folded over
the roof it over-lapse.

I have to crouch inside it.
It's not made very tall.
But when I go to stand up
the roof gives way and all.

It hasn't got a window.
It's dark without a light
and nothing to be feared
when nothing is in sight.

I can't lay down inside it.
It's much too small to sleep
and if I start to nod off,
I'll hit the wall and weep.

I live alone inside it.
There isn't room for more.
And if someone came over
they'd see there is no door.

I haven't got a mailbox
and live with no address.
And if you want to find me
you'll simply have to guess.

I move around quite often.
It's not my place to brag.
But you won't say I'm rich
when I grab my house and drag.

I'm happy once inside it
and live from day to day.
And if you should come over,
I'll flip it and we'll play.

tracking the tulips - haiku series

flower beds ready
fall gardeners plan ahead
tucking in the bulbs

tulips nod off
winter blankets of snow
magic underground

spring sun's warmth
rouses like morning coffee
stems break through the soil

blossoms fill the fields
Holland's tourists agape
beauty beyond words

leaves and stems shrivel
food for hungry bulbs
autumn's bedtime snack

Mountain Home At Dusk

He knew a world of lesser life,
"miles from here and everywhere," he'd often quip.
He sat in a swing hung from chains, soaking up nature
after the fence mending and baling of hay was done.
Time to untangle the worries, unburden the aches and
pains of the day- send them on down the creek.

He would scrape dirt from his boots, then whittle on a stick,
drawing in the thick evening air- overalls and shirtless.
And I on the porchstep, long rid of paint...barefoot,
watching the sun hemorrhage through the old oak leaves.

Nightfall would slowly sponge up the pale, honey-hued sky
while wildflowers would nod off in the cool autumn breeze.
He, sipping bourbon from a cup, would become the vainglory of tales,
and I with lemonade- the idolizer- paid homage with keen ears
while the choirs of bullfrogs lauded their serenade.

Then God would snap on His heavenly lights,
making the fireflies vie for attention as his stories overflowed
late into the night- each page of the scrapbook kept
inside his head, was dusted and narrated with pride.
And I listened with a reverent air.

The next morning I would find myself tucked into an old
feathered bed...never remembering how I got there.
