tracking the tulips - haiku series

flower beds ready
fall gardeners plan ahead
tucking in the bulbs

tulips nod off
winter blankets of snow
magic underground

spring sun's warmth
rouses like morning coffee
stems break through the soil

blossoms fill the fields
Holland's tourists agape
beauty beyond words

leaves and stems shrivel
food for hungry bulbs
autumn's bedtime snack

Interesting take on the contest.. not sure how it fits the theme and was written back in 2011.... hmm.

It is a stretch, I will admit but tulip bulbs, in fact most flower bulbs look very dead in the fall, but in fact, they will resurrect in the warmth of springtime. Many would discard them mocking their ugliness but indeed the dying blossoms and leaves furnish food that maintain the bulb. Thanks so much for the first place honor despite your questions. It is an oldie; I've been cleaning out files of poetry of late. Glad I kept this one. Contest title: MOCKING THE DEAD

Tulips are among the earliest flowers to come up from the ground in springtime. You have described them well in this fine set of haiku. Congratulations on your win in the contest.
