Best Neigh Poems
Life's valued treasures, I hold most dear,
the ones that dwell deep within my heart.
There's a special memory from younger days
that I will share with you, and fondly impart.
When I think as far back as I can, I remember,
there was only one special thing I ever wanted ~
A big white horse, with flowing mane and tail.
I rode him every night; in dreams, he haunted.
Christmas wishes never came true for me
because you see, my family was rather poor,
but on a December morning, when I was ten
there was a loud knock upon our door.
Dad looked at me and said, "I think it's for you."
He took my hand and gently guided me outside.
Before I saw the surprise, I heard a gentle neigh,
and stood in disbelief, my eyes opened wide.
I remember that I cried, but I couldn't speak.
When Dad lifted me to the leather saddle
I whispered "Thank you," and kissed his cheek.
I was sitting on my dream horse, legs astraddle.
No fancy dolls or dress up things appealed to me.
I had what my heart desired and named him Knight.
I told him all my secrets as we rode hills and fields,
mane and tail flowing, coat shining in the sunlight.

FILLY’S FAMOUS STORY
Although I am pink, don’t ever think
That this filly is just frilly and silly,
For I am a thorough bred filly who instead
Of eating just oats, for my owner dotes
On me, am fed in a pasture of my very own,
Whose green grass is a sight to be seen,
And oh, so pristine!
What is my mode of work you might ask,
It certainly does not involve any task,
For I am shown off to the rich and elite,
Who think it’s an absolute treat,
To be shown a beauty like me
I do sound vain but where else would
They find a pink filly to see!
My mane is brushed every day,
With a gold plated brush by Fay,
She is so proud, I always draw a crowd,
And is quick to explain, I’m a descendant
From the stables of the ex and late
Senator Nicholas Brady, I’m no ordinary lady!
Fay has desperately tried to find me a mate,
But am truly fussy, I know my destiny and fate
Is not from the regular horses around, but to be
Found amongst the Arabian horses abroad, for imagine
A local brown dowdy horse, I’d be fraught!
Yes I’m a snob, my mate must be a real heart throb,
For my vision and dreams are of never
Ending meadows, and flowers, and trees and streams
And a handsome horse of the same breeding as me,
Maybe even a Lipizzaner who has a reputed background,
They have been around for quite a while, Fay reads
My thoughts and gives me a smile, hey Frilly don’t
Stress pretty friend, for it is my eternal intent,
That you be matched one day with an aristocratic
Horse, and together you will take a romantic course,
And have little foals, of which one might be pink,
So never, ever think that your predominant,
Pink genetic line will become extinct, you re such a
Refined fine filly, nothing about you is silly,
You will go down in history and be recorded,
As the most beautiful pink horse ever born,
Have patience, you will be rewarded!
Frilly looked at Fay, and gave her a neigh,
She loved Fay so, would Fay ever know, Frilly
Hoped so, for if Fay looked deep into Frilly’s
Eyes, Fay would know that she had won
Frilly’s heart as first prize!

fair maiden who sails on each crested wave
drawn from the deepest ocean currents
galloping white steeds land on golden sands
within each beat, feelings growing stronger
exploring beauty within this magically universal dream
developing within every passing moon - joining with shadows we unite souls
I see a starlight shining so brightly, blinking
destinies promise to join our kingdoms
each one bringing you closer into my heart
a thousand gifts wrapped over and back
as silk-white ribbons inside out beams upon your grace
the greatest pleasure is dancing with you under the moonlight gaze
in the distance, at horizon's edge, a darkness
storm clouds approaching from the north
I see the fear in your eyes as the moon turns ebon
white steeds neigh in the wind, fearful of the tempest
a memory? or an omen of things to come?
you release my hand, thunder shakes our universe
lightning illuminates, casting ghostly shadows
I call to you, fair maiden, as you mount your beast
the windstorm drowns out my ardent pleas
what is this spectre that stands between us?
come back, come back o fair maiden of light
alas, the fantasy fades, I stand alone in black of night
waking up the eyes sting, salt-based
missing someone special with whom I shared once upon a time
lost inside the loneliness, nowhere to turn
stuck within a bubble of feelings
where someone will never leave or hide away
standing for a moment in the cold morning mist
listening to the crows call
haunting thoughts drift upon a cloud
with picture memories stored, deeply beautiful
the dream, the dream, it taunts me when I sleep
no longer sure of what is real and what is illusion
tonight, I will close my eyes once again and pretend-
you're still here, with me

Horses wearing woolen coats
of red, green and grey,
Gather round their daily bale of early morning hay.
Nodding, blissful heads, musing as they munch;
The earth beneath their steady hooves feel the snowy crunch.
Corralled behind sprawling, mended, wooden fences,
Curious they gaze with acute and focused senses.
Nostrils wide, clouds of breath, circling in rings,
Listen closely, hear them softly neigh and sing.

The unicorn was soaring high;
I watched it fly across the sky.
A regal beast of snowy white,
Its horn was like a stalagmite;
Its wingspan took my breath away.
I smiled with joy to hear it neigh -
But then I spotted on its back,
A grinning rider, dressed in black:
PD was out with her new pet;
She waved and zoomed off like a jet.
And as they flew towards the sun,
I knew her birthday would be fun.
Jack Horne, with love to PD on her birthday ***
Down in the meadow, bees are buzzing away
cows laze about, after feeding all day
Wildflowers attract butterflies, in pastel arrays
lapping up nectar, in the warm sunny rays
Down in the meadow, lambs frolic and play
ladybirds climb grass tufts, that gently sway
A farmer wipes his brow, whilst loading hay
midges swirl about, as young horses neigh
Down in the meadow, goldfinches come to lay
gobbling down thistle seeds, without delay
Baby spiders spin webs, in more than one way
none of them mind each other, so all’s ok
Down in the meadow, an old donkey brays
don’t think he’s cross, just dislikes his dray
The residents don’t care, what this ass says
all have things to do, and ignore me anyway
Whilst I stand munching oats and fresh hay
Kitty visits, she’s my special friend
If she proffers a mouse I’ll say neigh
as a mouser kitty’s a godsend!
Kitty visits, she’s my special friend
I look forward to see her each day
As a mouser kitty’s a godsend
I enjoy watching my friend at play
I look forward to see her each day
on my company she can depend
I enjoy watching my friend at play
Kitty chases mice right to the end
On my company she can depend
If she proffers a mouse I’ll say neigh
Kitty chases mice right to the end
whilst I stand munching oats and fresh hay

There’s a frog sitting on the potty going, “Rib-bit”.
Sitting down where I normally sit.
I am not sure why the frog came to visit,
But he’s sitting on the potty going, “Rib-bit.
There’s a cow sitting on the potty going, “Moo-moo”.
She’s sitting in the same place that I do.
I am not sure why the cow came to see you,
But she’s sitting on the potty going, “Moo-moo”.
There’s a horse sitting on the potty going, “Neigh-neigh”.
I sit on the potty in the same way.
I am not sure if the horse is here to stay,
But he’s sitting on the potty going, “Neigh-neigh”.
There’s a bird sitting on the potty going, “Tweet-tweet”.
I sit on that very same seat.
I am not sure if this ever will repeat,
But she’s sitting on the potty going, “Tweet-tweet”.
There’s a dog sitting on the potty going, “Bow-wow”.
She climbed up there, but I don’t know how.
I am not sure if that dog is done now,
But she’s sitting on the potty going, “Bow-wow”.
There’s a donkey sitting on the potty going, “Hee-haw”.
He’s sitting there as if it were a see-saw.
I am not sure why the donkey came to call,
But he’s sitting on the potty going, “Hee-haw”.
I am sitting on the potty singing my song,
About the animals that have been here all day long.
If they can use the potty it can’t be all wrong,
So I’m sitting on the potty singing my song.
Let true love find me to be the ever fixed mark of constant gaze
The spectacle of her thrilling eyes, and she to me the dearest prize
A coral when the heart stampedes, or fickle fancy frivolous strays
For love must be a leash of common trust, the pole beyond the skies
So shall we not shiver when seasons change the wind and mist comes
A dark impenetrable fog before the yes, a marsh around the mind
For we by love is added as one, most accurate of all majestic sums
Trust must be the key to vision when love alone stumbles here blind
No arc of sight away in flight, bending ever to a proud inconstant sun
But holding hands we chart our course, finishing better than we begun
For all nature shall around us spin fresh vortexes of an ancient desire
But trust shall preserve us body, soul and skin only for our own fire.
What else shall by our light be drawn, like quivering moths must retire
Into the dust and cinders gasping at our feet, hope their fractured glass
Let true love be constant in this faith, for God's peace cannot expire
Through every storm his ways do hold, so upon him all anchors cast
So what then this buzzing, this jealous sound, is it of frail frying wings
Does some flame the fragile heart deceives, or nestless memory stings
Ah, sentinel not the virgin beauty of my sheets, my fortressed pride
This castle is built of stronger walls, the drawbridge is up, I'm alone inside
They ragged armies may their runted horses rattle until they neigh
Pure hubris, the harried hustlings, trust is a wall faithful and secure
To smooth for any tool to clasp, all tempted grasp will only slide away
And these walls have moats without and within, none crossed before
You alone have I shown where to swim, and how to unlock this gate
To you my center constant holds, only one holy grail keeps my faith
See not my stern behind my bow, point to the haven of your arms
See not my flags fly for you alone, your port the weather ever charms
It's firm the mast that keeps my sail, look from your castle, I come
O sweet the winds that drive me to your shore, what constant tide!
You the true Polaris of my compass stone, my fiddles and my drum
Love not all alone that carries me, but trust that steers me to your side.
Your ways of logic are fu*ked, gutted, and thrown to the wolves. A weaker metamorphosis can never survive. Alone with us, you’ll never make it out alive. Your ways of belief are fu*ked, gutted, and thrown to the wolves. Useless thoughts are now obsolete. Your only purpose is to be stripped of your meat. You’ll pray. Beg for death. This pain never ceases unless by my hand. Hatred flows through this human form like sinew,…yet as I watch you die…I feel nothing. We’ll slit the throats of the neigh Sayers and witness the approaching dawn. With the morning dew collecting on glossy dead eyes, hand in hand we feel nothing.
A Painful Tribute to my earth
Before me you were
I am here and you are
Thus both of us are together now.
Alas, I will be gone and you will go on!
You are giving me endlessly
And spreading on me lavishly.
Despite it, I plunder you;
I exploit you;
I mistreat you;
I don’t care for you.
I have forgotten that you are a living organism -
You need my care;
You need my concern;
You need my gentle respect.
You are not losing me;
I am losing you.
I am depleting you;
I am exhausting you;
I am rushing you to devastation
And in that I am rushing to my own exit.
What was, is nor more;
What is, will be gone
What will be, is not known.
Help me become aware of your sigh
Help me become aware of your neigh
Help me become aware of my own destruction
Help me save you to save myself.
Show me your might
Show me your power
Show me your anger
Show me your arrogance
Make me learn
Make me move
Make me understand your cry
Cry; make me hear your cry!
Cradled me like a mother then
Let me cradle you now
Help me help you
To achieve my selfishness
Love you, mother earth!
Love you dearly!
Thank you for nourishing me
Thank you for holding me
For enfolding me
Help me love you and love you more!

A CAT, A HORSE AND JUDE
I am a tabby, with one green eye and the other blue,
My human mummy always says “North I love you’,
And I reply ‘hey Jude, you’re amazing, I love you too’
She cuddled me, “without you North, what would I do!’
It is Winter, and very cold, we live in Canada up North
Hence my name, I lay by a log fire and constantly purr,
I suddenly spot a mouse running back and forth
But too lazy to move, Jude bends down and strokes my fur.
‘Tomorrow we will go up to the stables and visit Gemini’
Gemini is one of Jude’s race horses, he is pretty cool,
‘Please don’t put me in the saddle, he might take off and I’ll die!’
‘No, dear Tabby, I certainly won’t, know you’re afraid, I’m no fool.’
Gemini heard them coming, got excited and started to neigh,
Jude loved horses, stoked his mane and kissed his silky forehead,
‘Jude is a sweetheart’ said North as she walked away to get some hay,
‘I agree’ said Gemini, ‘I know her well for here I was bred’.
