Best Nap Poems
The sky was yellow, with sparkling beams
in iridescent gold
reflected on the pointed hat
of an elf, two centuries old.
The hostess of the hour was sweet
in a robe of mismatched dyes.
She entertained with merely this--
a kiss in her root beer eyes.
The placemats were of baby fern,
woven in intricate green,
and laughter was heard like the tinkling of bells,
near the banks of an ebony stream.
I boarded a raft for an underground cave,
which was carved in a spiral pattern.
The subterranean symphony hall
was draped in coral satin.
At the end of the course was a water-slide
in hues of ultraviolet,
with children bouncing up and down.
They prevailed upon me to try it.
Though some might want to interpret this,
myself, I'm in no hurry
to analyze such a sweet retreat,
which woke me without a worry.
The mysteries of sleep
Long nights with many interruptions
The light bulb in my head will not die out
despite the fact that the body is heavy and tired
Nothing should be untried ...
the most important hours of rest
I walk back and forth through
the silence of the house
In the flickering fire of my thoughts
If sleep was not essential for good health,
would probably mother earth not prioritize
that we should spend 1/3 of the day sleeping
Sleeping Beauty woke up refreshed
( She slept for 100 years
even for a princess's heart way too long )
The hunt for a rested morning

Brain is crackling, crisp, ivory bone dry
Gremlin stuffing cotton behind my eyes
Head begins to swell with torpidity
Vivid mind fading to transparency
Internal membranes breaking down
Thoughts run a deep molasses brown
'Tween thought and motion, expanding rift
Act of sheer will, the body to lift
Limbs grow wooden, ready to fall
Seek out the blessed horizontal
Cover exhaustion with soft frayed quilt
Self-indulgent moment’s guilt
Serotonin sleep dump almost disappointing
Blessed moment of irresponsibility ending
Leaden lids descend on eyes
Fading into a sky blue paradise
3/25/16
drink nectar on tap
eat ambrosia from gods lap
fulfill every gap
cornucopia no cap
transcendence ~ without a map

In Mama's arms you're safe and warm,
As she rocks you gently, there's no fear of harm,
So close your sleepy little eyes,
Hush your crying and fretful sighs.
Drift away to a special place,
Where sweet dreams wrap you in warm embrace.
Let them carry you along,
As Mama sings a soothing song.
Floating on a pillow cloud,
Only happy thoughts allowed.
Reach up to grab a star or two,
While the man in the moon winks at you.
You'll see angels flying near,
Keeping watch 'cause you're so dear.
They'll even play peek-a-boo,
Hiding in the clouds with you.
And when you awaken from your nap,
Mama will place you in her lap.
She'll feed you a bottle made just for you,
And when you've finished, you'll play and coo.
In spring we come out to see life,
out from our long cold winter's nap.
Bears are so loving not wildlife.
Love can be grand.
I am your big fun bear asap,
you are my fury playful wife,
I love to see you in gift-wrap.
Tonight we need some fun nightlife,
eating fish not from a flytrap,
using my big claws not a knife,
Love can be grand.

I get tired too
I’m no superman
Is it okay I nap?
At stark midday
The guava tree's swishing leaves
Rustles my sleep
-----------------------------
- So I opened my soup and read a few poetry. It eased my mind back into warmth. And now
I'm tired again, and more equipped to take on mid day dreams.
Salute to everyone here.... I'm glad to have found this amazing site!
gentle drone
rain drums sleepily
on my metal roof
Satyr picking thorns
Bouncing rhythms of jazz horns….
Oaks drop acorns

For Leonora Galinta's contest, "Write Me A Poem...Picture Prompt ( cat and her kittens)
As the morning passes and afternoon arrives
Full of the normal stress of daily living
The urge to nap takes a firm hold
Eventually it gets to much to fight
Resting for just a bit seems right
Nobody to see me indulge
Oh , to the couch seems a great retreat
On my favorite pillow I lay my head
Nodding off , listening to the rain
Now, I don't want to make this a habit, but
An afternoon nap is
Pure bliss…..
I came back from a cold windy walk
Off with my mittens and hat
And coat and boots
On with the tea kettle
I opened the box
“Lipton - 100% Real Tea Leaves
Serve Hot or Iced”
Oooo not ‘iced’
I don’t even want to think about that!
“72 Tea Bags
Decaffeinated with Pure Spring Water and Effervescence”
Effervescence? What is that? Fizz?
I do not want fizzy hot tea
Just plain hot tea, if you please
“Net Wt 4.7 oz (133 g).. “ OK
I opened the lid to put the individually
Bagged teas…
To put the bags in the glass jar
On the shelf
I opened the box and smelled the gentle green
And happily removed the cardboard separators
-the bags are placed in rows
With two little ‘walls’ between
Which I use for book marks
Fresh green-smelling book marks
And I noticed more writing on the underside of the lid:’
“Why is there a frog on my tea box?”
Beside a picture of a frog
I closed the lid
Sure enough, there is the same picture;
Only smaller; so I didn’t notice it
The little green frog is framed by the words
“Rainforest Alliance…Certified”
Nice to know the frog is a certified frog
The lid goes on to explain that the Lipton
Tea has been grown on “Rainforest Alliance Certified ™
Tea farms…to Protect the Environment, Improve Quality of Life; and Improve Worker Welfare…for more information…please visit liptonforthefuture.com or reainforest-alliance.org”
Wow! What an answer!
The first things that came to my mind
With the question
(In case you forgot, “Why is there a frog on my tea box?”)
Were:
1. An elephant wouldn’t fit
2. The gecko is taken (see Geico car insurance ads)
3. Cats don’t drink tea – although they occasionally sniff mine
4. Fish are too wet… well, come to think of it, frogs live at least part-time in water… scratch that… except that I don’t care for fish, and I’d probably return tea with fish on the box
5. Why not?
It is a charming question
It is a cute frog
And the tea is good; especially when drunk to accompany
A hot buttered biscuit with cinnamon on top
I sit back in my grandfather’s old chair
With a book and a cat on my lap
And drift off to sleep
“Why is there a frog on my tea box?”
I think that’s silly
The more important question would be
“Why is there a frog in my Christmas tree?”
But that’s another story
