Best Moment Poems
Look...See how long nights are drawing in.
Dreary birdsong gradually abates -
Opaque dusk grows dim;
And just outside the creaky little garden
Gate,
Stood opposite the empty wood
Where the vacant threshold silently awaits,
I pause, when, resonating quietly back...
I now hear...
Far distant echoes of my glorious childhood
Tugging like a Siren upon my ear.
With a heartfelt pang I turn to move,
Before my staring should offend some
Old friends ghost
To manifest in vengeful affright,
Towards the comforting sanctuary proffered
By the warm kitchens weak neon light...
That sneaks out from behind the half-shut
Door,
But held - Transfixed!
Brought from wither-not-where to this one
Small place - Staid...
As if caught in a state of heavenly grace,
Conversing to the soft wind in harmonious
Angelic rapport:-
Thus soothes like enchantments waves...
Rolling gently up to repeatedly break upon
Magical banks girdling Nivians lakeshore.
For what be this odd muse
That upon my aging senses does so readily
Enthuse...
And to my inner soul so inextricably
Implore?
Ahhh...But this much I may be allowed to
Say,
Before darkly gathering skies extinguish
Over weak flames of the last spluttering
Ray,
Perhaps it is our inner voice
That seeks out the solitudes of
Tranquilities choice -
To witness and record and dutifully store...
Those rare and fleeting moments
We all too briefly adore.
Sitting by his bed
Labored breathing
Time is short
Holding his hand
A prayer – for him, for me
Be strong and courageous
Eyes blink open for a moment
Then nothing – gone
Tears flow
Skin relaxes
Death pallor forms
Alone in the moment
Alone
Cell Phone rings
My daughter in a panic
Fear spikes my heart
Dad – there are ants in the bathroom
Relief – exhaling
Death in the moment
But also Life
Life
Goodbye dear friend
Our time over
Your precious love and wisdom
I take
To guide my moments
My moments
To love
To forgive
To encourage
To live
Each day
Each person
In every situation
Compassionately
Boldly
Completely
In every moment
In
Every
Moment

Live Generously
In that moment his eyes swirled
with all of the love he held for me;
with every ounce of life that he
would happily lay down for me
In that moment I felt the covering
of all the pain I had ever felt;
the vanishing of every tear shed
through the trials life had dealt
In that moment the wind whispering
my destiny became a roar;
lifting me from my path riddled
with obstacles, making me soar
In this moment my heart does
not hurt; my tears do not sting
Let me live in this moment for
life; until my requiem they sing

I was walking with two friends of mine,
when we saw a woman
who was tall, beautiful and black
They spoke lewd to her,
so she didn't speak back
In their rejected anger,
they cursed her in a cruel, mean tone
That's when I interceded,
and said leave the poor woman alone
My two friends looked at me
like I was some kinda traitor
That day we parted ways,
there would be no more days of "see ya later"
In a moment of truth,
will you stand up for the truth?
Or will you back down,
and keep your mouth shut?
It's moments like those
that reveal what manner of person you are
Will you be naked or clothed?
Will your spirit be dark,
or will it shine like a star?
Nobody ever said friendships are forever,
not when you have to compromise
your integrity in a matter
In a moment of truth,
don't keep your mouth closed
Let your voice roar
like a lion, strong and bold!
Six feet tall, feisty and tipping the scales
Aunt Eva approached life so playfully
Living in the moment, not fretting details
Even at 80 no harsh wrinkles had she
Just a few laugh lines from a life filled with joy
She couldn’t budget, her spending was free
Her brother (my father) was a CPA
It seemed he was forever bailing her out
When living expenses she couldn’t pay
Her gifts to others were funny as well
A used Bruce Springsteen shirt she bought for me
It was stained, too small and had a strange smell
This aging widow had young men calling
She was their dance queen and rocked all night long
Some may have found her youthful dance dates appalling
Last time I saw her, she stood in the street
Grinning and waving, as we drove away
I watched her fade from view from the car’s back seat
pink marshmallow clouds
tinted by the setting sun
artist mixes oils
11/13/19
Through the brambles of the arbor's vine,
an artist has spinned some silver lace
This net was cradled over leaves
slung low, and wet with dew.
Evidence was left in place,
a hammock swings as if on cue
Crocheted with skill and flair
to glisten in the sun
Breeze trembles every curl and lair
and takes the breath from you
Light fondles strands of pearls it wears
as the spider rests, .. to view.
While the agile trace of light declines,
the fragile morning soon unwinds
and wears a lace of new design

Dear moment, this moment, this small little moment,
Do you know how important you are?
Do you know how you’re a part of me, moment,
How you’re the biggest moment by far?
You’re my big little moment, in this moment of time,
You’re the best little moment to find,
And I wish we could chat but I see that you’ve gone,
Disappeared to the back of my mind.

~the Fear of Never~ A DRINK TO REMEMBER!
And the fire catches every time, my heart needs a sip
I bear no shame pouring, poisoned pabulum whisky down
Lost in a place with hungry whores, ink paying gigolos
This night a respected gentleman put's on his evening gown
He sits in front of a mic playing the same old sad song
Fitted out in drag, his wife has no clue
Holy breeders trying to change my shoes
Lingering from the Cute Chinaman, running his tab sky high
Bluebirds of jealousy, set round the vintage Barstool like fools
Minds overpowered and threaten to the very nub
I am drunk-- in his eye,
He receives a macabre confession of possessiveness
I am drunk-- in her eye,
She has a sick confession of subconsciousness
Broken loose from a negative, regressive state of mind
Sit and enjoy this broken bottle of champagne
Unspoken rage in every empty can left behind
A shot glass drops from my unstable hands longing to hold a pen
I look into a mirror and embrace every meaning of stability
Blotting out the madness behind a metal cage of reality
At times, I feel the need to bring down this masquerade
A drink so hostile, I can't even remember my image and name
Too many scars, from the foster of paper and pen
My dependents are drunken demons from a traumatized childhood
Tonight I will legislate a special thanks
Holding up my cup, until death finds my note
I will smile, at every Judge and Jury, during karaoke night
Shutting down my eyes, fantasizing everything's gonna be alright
I will not jilt knowing, writers block haunted my days away
Insecure hoarding monsters enjoying spoil forgotten words
Tonight I thirst like never before, my tongue inscribes around a tin cup
I am not eating up by it, no matter how long I've drowned in it
This is my kind of whisky, my thoughts, my days of ammo
To tell you the truth, I possess no desire to drink
It's all about the love of poetry and how sober, I become (WITHOUT)
The monsters that reside inside, have one thing to say
"Give me Poetry, or give me Death!"

Cloudy was the morning on which I had awoke,
not a bird was heard chirping, nor a single word heard spoke.
My eyes were then opened to what no one often sees,
as if a veil had been lifted, with a cool summer breeze.
Nothing was moving not a single leaf in the trees,
or a single blade of grass, as far the eye can see.
The dogs so often barking, in this moment could not be heard.
Crystalline was the moment that brought me these few words.
Within this crystalline moment, my world was standing still
this peaceful quiet moment, for me was such a thrill.
As that moment faded I felt an inner peace come from within,
a moment then gone, when the chaotic world once again began to spin.
The dogs began barking and birds were heard chirping in the trees,
leaves again began to rustle, upon another cool summer breeze.
Children were then heard yelling, as they played out in their yards
with that all to familiar sound, of so many passing cars.
Is this what the world is like, for those who cannot hear?
Do the subtle sounds they think they hear, tend to strike them with a fear?
I will have to ask my brother who was born partially deaf,
then let him know in a way, he may have been born partially blessed

In tune with this familiar vibe, let’s wonder how it might be
Across the room our eyes will meet, a set of four
In a place setting reserved for two, captivated
Our everyday routines and thoughts will speak
Through the eyes, uninhibited, grooving in the same skin
Once upon a raging fire we’ll celebrate
The memory of that zing thing, we'll watch as it
Circles slowly into softer flames, flickering
Well-suited as old comfortable shoes
And continue enveloped in life's mystical sound
More sensible, aware of the need to be inward
Or outward at different times, we'll find pleasure
In being tired wild things, slowing down in our swings
If it breaks and cracks we’ll pledge not to notice
So, just for the sake of thinking that it might not last
Before it’s even begun, let’s just wish upon hope
Until we meet, and vow to be good to each other
In this moment, tonight
SANDIA
Sandia …Sandia I love you. Sandia…Sandia your beautiful deep shadows and illuminated peaks stir within me wonder and desire. To be part of your world, your story, your history would be my gift.
Whisper to me …
Sweet watermelon hills. I long to be closer to you, to touch you,
to smell the air on your highest peak,
to lay my tired body in your lush green valleys.
I know you speak to me and whisper in my ears.
I know you call to me and I hear your words…
“Come to me. Let me embrace you. You will become me
and travel through my past, my present and on into my future.
Let me stroke your forehead and gently touch your tired eyelids
closing them so you may rest if even for a few moments.”
“Rest in my hills, in my shelter of smooth warm stones.
Surround yourself. Rest on me. Breathe in my air.
Look upward and gaze upon the lovely pink and gray
clouds that hover around me.
Let me kiss you with my breeze…the call of the air…
and the promise of dreams to come.”
In one brief moment
you saw me as I am
without a word spoken
palm open for my hand.
Nary a harp string plucked
silence graced the air
silhouettes became one
my heart I laid bare.
Candle wicks were unlit
full moon a distant past
my emerald eyes glowed
your love echoing back.
Fire our skin to skin heat
scent unique unto us
not a flower in bloom
our souls we gave in trust.
In one brief moment
you saw me as I am
the memory of each breath
my bliss I'll always have.

Eternity within your grasp
My plea? To undo the clasp
Let Desire wash away
Tomorrow and yesterday
Every other thought and dream
Meaningless I make them seem
Had you let the floodgates go
Oh, what pleasure you would know
But you let the moment pass
Tranquility came softly by
Sweet promise with you to lie
A scent full of serenity
Permeating entity
It caressed your very skin
But you didn’t let it in
No, you let the moment pass
Passion demands obeisance
Set to conquer your essence
In fevered pitch of a storm
To tempt you in every form
Fantasies of every kind
Unleashed frenzy of the mind
Transformed into what is real
But you were afraid to feel
To be tossed around and worn
To be completely reborn
Pounded by a wanton need
Every craving to be freed
Coaxed to burst into flame
But fear made your wild heart tame
And you let the moment pass
Love came knocking at your door
To bequeath a kiss and more
Calling in angelic chime
Faithful pledge denying time
Bonding of a soul to soul
Golden chance to become…whole
Promise true to last and last
But you let the moment pass
Now you beg and kneel to pray
For Him to open the way
You cajole powers that be
Somehow to change destiny
Before that moment to stand
Hold it safely in your hand
To seize me, the source of these
Let passion and love to please
To capture that golden time
Where all could fall into rhyme
Oh, my love, it will not be
My broken heart cannot see
My way through the halls of time
When I begged to make you mine
And now, my love, alas, alas
I must let this moment pass
In tears I let this moment……..P A S S
Eileen Manassian Ghali
She hid the pain behind a smile
as she walked slowly down the aisle.
Her doubts she struggled to restrain
behind a smile she hid the pain.
Their chosen song the organ played,
She looked divine in gold brocade
a veil to match trailing along.
The organ played their chosen song.
Of jasmine scent a whiff she caught
to mind a picture swiftly brought
a one-night stand in secret spent.
A whiff she caught of jasmine scent.
She felt impaled by sword of guilt
that entered deep down to the hilt.
No breaths of healing were inhaled.
By sword of guilt she felt impaled.
She needed time to clear her mind
erase the present, press rewind
bring back the lustre, wash the grime
to clear her mind she needed time.

The film’s on ‘pause’. My fingers itch
to watch the rest, flick on the switch…
Will it be tears or loud applause!!
My fingers itch. The film’s on ‘pause’.
