She Lived In the Moment

Six feet tall, feisty and tipping the scales Aunt Eva approached life so playfully Living in the moment, not fretting details Even at 80 no harsh wrinkles had she Just a few laugh lines from a life filled with joy She couldn’t budget, her spending was free Her brother (my father) was a CPA It seemed he was forever bailing her out When living expenses she couldn’t pay Her gifts to others were funny as well A used Bruce Springsteen shirt she bought for me It was stained, too small and had a strange smell This aging widow had young men calling She was their dance queen and rocked all night long Some may have found her youthful dance dates appalling Last time I saw her, she stood in the street Grinning and waving, as we drove away I watched her fade from view from the car’s back seat

Hi Carolyn. Such a great poem. We need people like this in our lives so we can be reminded what true happiness is. My dear mother was this type of person and I am forever grateful that she was in my life. Giving this one a sentimental 7. Loved it.

I love this story, Carolyn, ....... it makes me think of all the quirky characters I have heard about in my own family's history. But the joy in the story telling proves that we can't make this stuff up......it is real life, and real people ! Love this!

Wow! What a wonderful and remarkable lady your aunt seems to have been or she is. This just proves more what I already know, that happiness comes from within, and not how much money someone has, the love of people, family and true friends, are to me the most important thing that anyone can have in this world, all the rest just falls secondary. An excellent write Carol!good luck in the contest! ;) xxx D.

Wow Carolyn! What an exceptional character Aunt Eva is (was). She knew how to live her life...enjoyed it to the full; not bothering about tomorrows helped her reach a lovely ripe age. We might not need to copy all her book, but we can take a leaf out of it! Hope to see this on the winners' list. hugs // paul

Dear Maurice, I will never forget waving goodbye. She always waved until the car was out of sight. She just wanted everyone to know how much she loved them. God bless her! It was a joy to know Aunt Eva.
