Best Maybe Poems
This poem was a forest fire; it burned me up as I read it
I was supposedly the writer.
But was I?
Voices inside me are laughing, taking credit, kicking me to the curb.
My next poem is a blizzard.
She whirls me into a whiteness.
This turns into marshmallow crème.
I am quiet for a second,
Landing in a drift, head first, but there is no coolness.
Snow without coldness is not a poem at all.
It’s a fake poem like fake news.
I believe it best to give up now.
Maybe I am no poet at all but a prancing pony
Two steeds prance up. Dragging Cinderella’s coach.
Do not use Cinderella! My muse says meanly.
I stick out my tongue.
Cinderella, Cinderella, Cinderella.
I am easily distracted when imagination is giving me instruction.
She found herself
In the shards of who I am
The broken bits
The shadows
The resurrection of yesterday's pauses
I wonder
Was it the happy bits
The quiet contemplations
Or does she exist
Within the doubts
The abbreviated sentences
The opinions of her own imposters
Those who choose to see her with veiled perceptions
Is she who she wants to be
Or is she in a state of becoming
I try to see past my own limitations
I wade through my wheres
Trying to see where
Where she has been
Where is she now
Why
Yes I wonder why
Why does she identify with me
I am left to ponder
Contemplate
Who is this woman
With sad happy eyes
Strong in a broken sorta way
Who visits me
On glowing paper
Graces me with kindness
Chooses to ponder herself
Within my spaces
I will seek her out
For she too
Reveals
Her notes
Sings her spirit
On pure white
Glowing
Paper
Dedicated to Charmaine after she commented on my "I Am" poem.
My heart?
You have always owned that,
I'm surprised you didn't know.
Its flow?
How do I explain without being unkind,
simply, its flow is mine.
There's the barb, my vision puts me on a different flight
I own a non redeemable ticket...a ticket I clutch.
Love and age walk hand in hand.
I've had my sunrise...walking with resolve to my sunset.
I spent too much of my time trying to reach the horizon
now, happy to enjoy the sky's perfect joint with its mate.
Searching for that pot of gold? Some do...but not me.
That sort live with regret. They chased the lie, missed the rainbow.
Not I...I am happy to enjoy the breeze...cool and invigorating.
My heart? You own that. You always will.
At the fork...recently, I chose a different path.
I've looked behind me, I've looked ahead...I'm sorry, my love,
I just don't see you there.

Okay…maybe I am
Some call me romantic
But I don’t think that’s true
I just write down these feelings
I have inside for you
I have no formal training
No poetry degree
Just a pen and paper
I keep in front of me
So when I think about you
Which happens all the time
I scribble out some phrases
That often seem to rhyme
Perhaps they look like verses
They’re kept in groups of four
And filled with my affection
For someone I adore
And yes some are poetic
Though that is not my plan
I just want you forever
I want to be your man
Okay…they sound romantic
And maybe I am too
But it’s not really all that hard
To write down I love you
I am
Still I wonder
Who I am
Am I who
Am I what
Am I where
Am I here
I am
Yet I am not
My words travel beyond myself
I am made up of small and large
Sometimes broken discarded pieces
I am not
Who you think I am
I am one who lives between the spaces
Of those words you choose to describe me with
Perceptions gleaned
Through abbreviated sentences
Those moments I bored you with my existance
You were too busy being yourself
How could you ever know me
I am the one who can see
For I am a watcher
I am present in the silence
I am quiet
Do not confuse silence with weakness
I am who I choose to be
I am not a slave to the trivial
I am not one confined by convention
Those things I am supposed to strive for
They hold no allure for me
I am a free man
Free to think as I think
My thoughts remain my own
For your questions rarely greet my ears
When they do
I answer
I am willing
Yet you are unable to hear
For you think
You alone hold the answers
So I smile
For if nothing else
I am pleasant
I am polite
I am not thought of as bold
I am to you
Who you think I am
I am
For a time
What I want to be
Other times
What is expected of me
Sometimes
What confuses
What limits me
What shrinks
What trancends
What I hope is good for me
I am selfish for generous reasons
I am willing to give lavishly
I am what and who I need to be
Today I am different than yesterday
Yet at my core
I am still me
I am where I've been placed
For the time I'm needed here
I am at the intersection of belonging and alone
I am temporary and eternal
I am living where angels fear to tread
For I am human
I am flawed
I am willfully questioning God
I am on the verge of disappearing
Only Jesus truly knows who I am
He knows where my thoughts travel
How I have used who I am
To coerece others
To see me
As different than I am
More perfect
Less fearful
Confident
Insightful
So I say
Here I am
Naked
Exposed to your elements
Willing to risk it all
Here and now
Will you look close
Ask me your questions
Reserve your judgement
I am meant to be
Here and now
For in knowing who I am
You can begin to discover
Who you are!

She can't blame the season for her tears
Aloneness was not loneliness in December
When the season passed so quickly in disguise
Of twinkling lights and toasts remembered
As she looks to the yard, there is nothing to see
but an old pepper tree, that tosses it's head
It is losing its leaves in an alien wind,
in a sea of dead grass, where a garden had been
Her house wears a face, weathered thin, from neglect
and a fence that is broken and needing repair
She turns for a moment, to glance, here and there,
a room she has known, filled with colors long dimmed,
where the silence shouts loud, not a question to ask....
but...wishing for something..., a chore, or a task
A family together, is framed on the desk
Maybe they'll come today....
For a mere month or more, a feral cat came her door
then had wandered the floors, neither friend or a foe
But he soon disappeared, on the eve of the storm
She will call just the same.......just in case he can hear
"Here, kitty kitty"....."Here, kitty kitty", but she calls him in vain
While the wind plays the same dirty game...
Tumble weeds roll and bend, her eyes search the wind
She peers through the window,...as she waits for a friend...
a friend never there....always due to arrive
so she stands by the side, of the old telephone
where the old parlor room, knows a long afternoon
A family together, is framed on the desk
Maybe they'll come someday...

Loneliness Contest Entry: Sponsored by Nadya Ivette Negron
It'd been one of the most bizarre days; downright crazy
so I had a martini, maybe four, so things got kinda hazy
I fumbled in my wallet so I could pay my pricey bar tab
Friends thought I had too many, so they put me in a cab
I stumbled up the steps. It seems walking was a chore
Couldn't find my key, so I tried beating down the door
Her screeches of "Where the bloody hell have ya been?"
Pounded in my head, making me sorry that I'd come in.
She hissed, then off to the kitchen she foolishly prattled
With horrendous noises, pots and pans were being rattled
My head was sorely throbbing so I begged her to be quiet
She screamed, "Don't yell at me! Blame your liquid diet!"
She banged a bowl of something down on the table cloth.
I weaved my way to a chair as my mouth began to froth
Put my head in my hands when the room started spinning
Caught a glimpse of that evil woman. Yeah, she was grinning
A mound of muck she'd plunked down right in front of me
looked like it should still be swimming in the salty sea
It smelled vile and disgusting... nauseatingly atrocious
I gagged and turned away, that's when Liz became ferocious
I couldn't move an inch to find my way back to the couch
I was a brick, held by mortar. My wife was being a grouch
but I couldn't find the strength to flee. I felt far too dizzy
My turn to shout, "Can you just stop your naggin', Lizzie?"
I didn't mean to say it, and my words came out so slurred
My vision was fuzzy. Everything was clouded and blurred
Something was staring up at me while awful music played
That's when I saw green heads and grew appallingly afraid
Whether fantasy or reality, frogs had escaped from a pond
These were fugly creatures. From evil they'd been spawned
I was being serenaded by a quartet of deep croaking voices
So suffers the drunken man while his heartless wife rejoices
I crawled to bed when I couldn't take the harmony any more
Lizzie punched me and said, "Wake up if you're gonna snore."
I tripped down the stairs, woke the dog and made him bark
Left the wife and found a bench to sleep it off in the park
Maybe it's time we said a prayer
Maybe it's time we started to care
Maybe it's time we started looking for the truth.
Maybe it's time we began to listen
Maybe it's time we completed our mission
Maybe it's time we began to teach our youth.
Maybe it's time we ended the violence
Maybe it's time we broke the silence
Maybe it's time we eliminated the fears,
Maybe it's time we minded our business
Maybe it's time we showed forgiveness
Maybe it's time we stopped the flow of tears.
Maybe it's time we saw our brother
Maybe it's time we loved one another
Maybe it's time we wished upon that distant star.
Maybe it's time we answered the call
Maybe it's time we stood proud and tall
Maybe it's time we accepted people as they are.
Maybe it's time we stood up and screamed
Maybe it's time we lied down and dreamed
Maybe it's time we enjoyed the fruits of our labor.
Maybe it's time we showed some remorse
Maybe it's time we set a new course
Maybe it's time we acted like a neighbor.
Maybe it's time we forgot the sorrow
Maybe it's time we planned for tomorrow
Maybe it's time we looked for a Resurrection.
Maybe it's time we had a little fun
Maybe it's time we walked in the sun
Maybe it's time we headed in a different direction.
Maybe I wasn’t ready for,
the love that I was seeking?
Maybe I wasn’t ready for more
to receive what I’d been giving?
Maybe I let fear rule my mind…
afraid of losing something I wanted to find
Maybe I just saw that look in your eyes,
that sent me flying toward the skies
Chorus
So many maybe’s, all answers adrift
Onward on a boat with a mood I’m trying to lift
So many maybe’s, that I want to let go
Hoping and praying for the good times to flow
So, maybe I am finally ready now,
to transfer my courage to you and I somehow
Maybe, I hold a special place
in my heart where I keep seeing your face
Maybe you are now ready to see,
what I was trying to tell you about me
Maybe you will also want to fly too,
hand in hand, wings spread, in skies so blue
Chorus Repeat
So many maybe’s, all answers adrift
Onward on a boat with a mood I’m trying to lift
So many maybe’s, that I want to let go
So I’m hoping and praying for the good times to flow
The rain is drumming on the rooftop,
tomorrow the river will flood.
The morning news spews outrage
about sewage in the Potomac,
apropos somehow.

LIFE is full of memorable moments:
My brother died
my cousin died
my friend died
my classmate died~
Seconds tick by silently
as my elderly mother
waits to die.
My life is remarkably unmemorable
and that’s okay…
It's not
as if you have
a choice in the matter,
but if you leave a poem it's
enough.
holding back the tears
reading an old love letter
it made me smile then
perhaps i should wait longer
they say that "time heals all wounds"...
Sometimes I just
want to sit
and write a poem.
Sometimes I just
want to stand
and recite a poem.
Sometimes I just
want to walk
around the house
picking up dust and lint
and maybe writing a poem.
Sometimes I just
think writing a poem
is the most wasteful pasttime ever
and I should just join the crowd
hunting Pokemons
right outside my front door.
If you could change the world
What would the first thing be
Maybe close down all the zoos
To set the animals free
Maybe get yourself some air time
To tell all people to take a stand
For the rulers of our countries
Have gotten to far out of hand
Maybe tell all of the people
You now have your own lives to live
Though if you want to live them happily
Learn,and use the word forgive
Maybe stop all of the madness
That new technology brings
People used to live without it
And they did just fine without those things
Maybe stop all of the wars
And get everybody watching everyones back
Then we will no longer need to use the words
Steal,kill,murder,war,execution,or attack

This may be the last letter I write to you; I am so very tired inside, exhausted...as I lay in bed I’m pondering things. When you feel like you're at death’s door, it’s not the things you've done well that matter, it’s the mistakes in life you ponder. To be honest though, if there was only one thing I did right, it was the day I met you. When love finds you, you want to keep it close forever and ever and ever and never let it go. I’m afraid to go to sleep because of the uncertainty of tomorrow, but I need to set my fears aside…so I am writing. I should not be afraid because you are already there, where ever there is, but I do remember trembling at your touch and the sound of your voice; I'm still in love with you and I miss you so very much. My prayer is before I close my eyes that I did not forget something—I know that is silly. I did make the house payment, the dishes are washed, the laundry is done, and yes I took out the trash. I let the girls out to go potty and made sure they will be taken care of if I don't wake up. They're sleeping on the floor by my side, they have been staying close to me tonight. So I guess I’ll put down my pen and take my chance at sleep, but if I could have just one wish, I wish I could see your face once again with those beautiful deep blue eyes I used to get lost in. Goodnight my love, maybe we can meet somewhere tonight, I love you.

Now I'm here, fighting my own demons.
Tell can you see them, with their eyes burning so red.
My hands are weak from breaking all the molds.
I've done everything that I'm told.
I didn't know that you were so afraid of heights.
And I'm so sorry but I think that I'm far to weak
To let you think I can help you down from your pedestal tonight.
I can't help you down tonight.
I can't help but be angry. I just wish that you would save me.
Pushed the numbers down and watched them fade away.
I'm so small from down here; you're my biggest fear;
You grind my flesh and bones and feed it to all the needy kids.
I said tomorrow and today I'll be the same,
But I'll show you now that I know how I can really change.
And you might not like it. You say I'm so divisive,
I just think your indecisive, so I tell you the choices I think you should already know.
And I'm so sorry, but I'm at the brink, I cannot think tonight.
I can't let you down tonight.
Why can't I see that just maybe I'm in way over my head,
Why can't I see that just maybe I'm in way over my head.
I'm far to weak, I cannot think tonight.
Why can't you see that unfortunately your sinking just like lead,
Why can't you see that unfortunately your sinking just like lead.
And I'm so sorry but I don't think I can lift you up tonight,
Yeah your on your own tonight.
