The Ballerina

The curtain parted...there upon the stage,
'neath bright chatoyant spotlight's glaring glow
she stood, a cynosure in tunneled beam;
demure, yet with ineffable glamor.

With lovely bow, this ingenue young girl,
composed, yet like a whirling breeze, began
her lissome ballet dance of twirls and swirls
to mellifluous sounds of violins.

A panacea of sweet calm filled up
my soul as she so gracefully succumbed
to call of violins and merged with them
in artful dance I wished sempiternal.

The beauty of her gracefulness in dance
enveloped me in deep, hypnotic trance.

Premium Member My Favorite Word

My favorite word. . . now what could that be?
To choose it, I have to think so carefully.
If I choose by its meaning, I simply can’t find
one word most important; this boggles my mind.

My favorite word. Oh, how can I choose?
What if I go by the one I most use?
I’d have to choose something like “a,” “the” or “and.”
Such words are too boring and surely not grand.

My favorite word. Now here is a thought.
I love pretty words, so my favorite ought
to be one poetic! But such words abound.
I’ll narrow them down to my favorite sound!

Words spring to my mind such as eloquence,
splendid, bliss, and ephermal; hence,
there’s something inside each word I can tell
is similar. All of them have the sound L!

How lilting between vowels in words like “Aloha.”
How lively in Christmas refrains: Fa La La!
L is Luscious and Lissome. It has eLegance.
It’s Luna, Lavender, and Luminescence!

And now I’ve arrived at ONE word. It has wings!
Like a beautiful angel, this word I think sings!
It comes from the Bible; a woman of fame
had a bit longer form of this beautiful name.

Delilah – in Hebrew and Arabic too -
a name most delightful has been shortened to
LILAH! This simple name rolls off the tongue.
It’s a languishing lass, lovelorn and young.

Perhaps a touch sultry with light in her eyes!
Be it Lyla or Layla; I hear lullabyes
to lull me to Slumberland; my soul will take flight
on a dream word that means lovely girl of the night!

Aug. 21, 2019 for Chantelle Anne Cooke's "Favorite Word" Poetry Contest

(I have written a few poems employing this name Lilah, one entitled
"Lilah of the Lilacs." If I had had a second daughter, I think Lilah would
have been my name for her! Also, I actually had a cat once that liked to
snip at our legs, so I had named her Lilah Vampira!)

Kite Flying - Test

Kiss me, I want to lift you skirt flying
Inside my heart like the wind
To dance on clouds of joy my kite
Embracing time, to hold you in my arms and spin

Festively playing in the clouds
Long lines of passion I can feel
Yearning against my string
Intermittingly fawning as you bow
Naked to the throb of wind
Garrulous like a lover moaninng

The scintillated light.
Etched upon the sweat shining
Silver shafts of ribs
Tensed in every fibre and nerve of being
               ...
I want to press my lips
Upon your cheeks, prettier than confetti paper
And let the golden sunlight drips
Chocolate of satisfaction on my tongue
Because I made a kite like this

Then to breathe your fragrance
Falling free
From every jasmine of your limb
Where the lissome bamboos hold firm
The quivering of my string

And when the wind exhausted
Make you loop and dip
Before suppliant eyes
To cash that boyhood zeal again
And run until you rise

Or shortening your leash
Bring you in
To closer dazzle my eyes
And let your string between my fingers fall
A ravished and splendid bride

I want to make you feel secure again
Your flying strained against my faith
Buoyed by the comfort of my love
For you the only joy that fills my eye
In the huff and blow of time

I want to lift you like the wind
And with you all my affections fly
To shout in glee from my little hill
Below unlettered clouds in pride
My kite alone to fly.

In the Throes of Dying Love

In the Throes of Dying Love

In the throes of dying love, you’re a
fallen angel, with no celestial saving grace.
Rose-tinted glasses shattered, you’re no longer
my hero, just a stark-naked zero.

You besmirch every passing season
that we shared…hacking them down,
one by one, like ugly unwanted weeds
in your garden. And my hope for a new you
faded with the waning silver of the moon.

You’ve lost your lissome, school-boy charms;
and the power to pinion me with your cold,
mesmerizing eyes, those squinting black holes
that once sucked me in…trying to suffocate me.

Your love is just as phony as your
painted-on smile, and that old forged,
water-color painting of a loving couple,
that I found buried under dust
and cobwebs in the attic.

But as that ancient, worn-out sun sinks to repose,
in the dense, oblivion of dark firmament,
so has our sojourn ended…and I’ve forgotten
why I loved you in the first place.

Sadly, like that cheap wedding ring you bought me,
you’re irrelevant…in the throes of dying love.

El Amante

My melancholy turns to gold dust
in your soft and tender hands
upon your fingers I scatter my life
my love remains clasped in your hands
now I am a vial of cologne, emptied...

I yearn to see your lissome creeper
how it clings to cracks on the walk
well, just as it entwines the cement altar
Mi amor, that is how I yearn to embrace your heart
I used to stumble, now I am sustained in you...

This night I yearn and sigh for you
to see you sleep, hands on your chest
sinking into our bed like rosy fruit
from smooth pastures into the depths of our mattress
as the air enters your chest and raises it chastely...

Amante, steal away to me in the night
we will see how peacefully the moon rays
create quiet waves without unsettling the hush
just as it passes into the gulf is the way
I yearn to sink to the very bottom of your soul...

Fly to me from your snow white orchards
you love is ever so immaculate
my naked soul will tremble in your hands...

Premium Member The Tiger In His Glory

A stealthy tiger stalks his prey
His eyes alight with cunning gleam;
And tho' the world may peaceful seem
The lissome springboks graze and play --
The danger lurks, not far away

He crouches low, his muscles taught
While calculations fill his mind
The perfect arc of force to find;
His quarry, still without a thought
Of what design the tiger sought

The tiger springs, the creatures flee
His mighty limbs with awesome force
Perform their planned and deadly course;
Now lies the springbok piteously
Forever torn from things that be

And o'er his corpse presides the prince
His solid jowls bespecked with blood
His razor claws in crimson flood;
He glories in these trickling glints
That show his skill in ruby tints

And when the prince has et his fill
The birds descend to eat the rest
To feed the young ones in the nest;
But on the tiger roams at will
He's free to wander, hunt, and kill

Premium Member My Crystal Blue

We walked home
Hand in hand
You were just a girl
me a boy
pretending to be a man

We held tightly to our nothing
Wrapping it fully within the wanting
Not really knowing
who we were
or what we were needing
So it was so easy
to sink into heavy breathing
Me the innocent boy
you my ingenue
We loved each other for a time
It seemed the right thing to do

You were my cynosure
a crystal blue eyed angel
naked and demure
Tentatively innocent
yet somehow you seemed so sure
I wanted you to unlock my sad lonely
still I kept looking elsewhere for a cure
A panacea
for the missing parts inside of me
So I searched
wanting to see
my sempiternal possibility

Feelings ineffable
I wanted so bad to feel full
Why couldn't I hold onto us
or resist the pull
I was a sad black sheep
searching for virgin wool

I thought maybe
beyond my awkward stammer
in the wider world of glamour
I could be a mellifluous camper
Yet secretly I knew
I was neither lissome or free
Why did I give up the us in we?
Binding myself in a place
I was never meant to be
There in a chatoyant box
locked with a golden key
It would take years
For me to be able to see
What my crystal blue baby
seen inside of me
In the end
knowing I was loveable
is what set the boy free
You showed me
the man I was meant to be!

Lost in universal wonders...

Lost in the pinion of liberosis...
pondering the concept of freedom,

Lost in the throes of onism...
pondering my humanism,
choices I have made...

Lost in expressions of love...
pondering lissome words,
poems I have written and read...

Lost in continual noisiness...
pondering a sojourn of sorts
taking the time for repose...

Lost in voices of reason...
pondering wisdom and truth
praying to never besmirch them...

The Meeting

The glamour of her skin faded
 like late-afternoon sunbeams
that settled on rose petals 'dust

But , not the light in her wide chatoyant eyes
That light was still glowing bright
Like a freshly washed white frock of an ingenue child
A child who knew, each flutter of a butterfly churning deep inside
was to be preserved for this ineffable day.
Today , the day She was to greet 'the one '
Down the valley , by the orchid tree
where minutes ticked seconds and time.

For so long , She waited for this moment
to turn and find him there , to look him in those eyes
Eyes circled with wrinkles of loss and laughter
of many deaths and life.

His demure maiden . The cynosure who filled his thoughts
without even knowing how or why , For weeks, months, and years
Was She there by his side ,or was this another betraying vision
of the lissome lady's smile ?

It was her voice . It was the mellifluous sound of her song
lulling him into sleep. This was not Endymion's dream
Nor an unheard wish on spumes of falling stars.
This was the warmth of his breath upon her neck's nape
It was their once so vacant hearts , beating one to one.

It was their holding of hands, their first promised dance.
A panacea to a long term desease of loss , and loss again.

A new chapter -to be continued.
A sempiternal journey of what little time remains.
Trembling hands ,Scribbling verses on hopskotch
Alll ending with the same repeated names
 and unforgettable joyous refrains.

Ravishing Predawn Vision, Return To Me

My panacea, vision shining forth, wee hours of morn
Her chatoyant hair, flowed in my all consuming dreams
Her demure gaze, always smiling, never a look of scorn
In paradise, ingénue bathing in moonlit magical streams.

Ineffable appearance, stardust in hair healed heart so torn
Something intangible, mellifluous echoed with her words
Tasting of honey, her kiss removed my heart so forlorn
Her lissome dance was as easy as mere flight to birds.

Cynosure born, her beauty sent me into a trance
Such glamor, Hollywood starlets would die to possess
In love, I boldly begged for her sempiternal dance
For that affront, my princess gave me her last caress.

Never again, did mornings glow with her grace and soft kiss.
Beauty's perfection, my grieving soul will forever miss.

Premium Member Arabians To Zebras

Ancient Arabians, mother to all
Bloodlines, essence of exquisiteness

Clydesdales, symmetry of strength
Dignity of duty, power of purpose

Ebony elegance, midnight silk
Friesians, crusaders in
Galloping gallantry

Hardy hearts, tiny and tenacious
Icelandic horses, gaited grace over
Jagged soil, volcanic climes

Kaleidoscope diamonds, lissome finesse
Lipizzaners, dancer of moonbeam dreams

Mustang beauty, bred by
Nature, to run in
Open grasslands, their hides
Paints of freedom

Quarter horses, nimble and surefoot across
Ranges unfenced, corralling waves of herds

Sleek strides, sinewy speed
Thoroughbreds, spirits of the wind

Unbridled, they fill all
Valleys and vistas in
Wild wonder; with Alexander and
Xerxes, they conquered the world

You may say these are outside the list
Zebras, to me - the mounts of fairies and myth

Premium Member Searching For Calm Repose

Where in silence heaves the evening breeze
A lissome heather ceaselessly droops low
Through graveyard fields, I collect my tears
Against the swagger of iridescent leaves,
And golden, winged pinions dart on twigs
Beyond my reach, this lone sojourn reels on.

The frail of moon seems to besmirch eve’s gloss
While in this vast expanse, quietude awaits
Until throes of gloom weigh upon my bosom
Pulling me down on murky weeds of clay--
Yet, above the firmament sparks
As moistened hands pray for temperate  rain ;
My eyelids arms forehead upward turned
Unto  celestial orbit of auroral light;
That although duskfall guides this passage--

I quiver beside the heather tree, inconsolable
To slumber, to dream, to find sweet repose.

Dark with torment and with tears."

_______________________________

often, I am in the throes and agony of my mind
I am tortured and each day I grapple with sad thoughts
that pinion and shackle me to the past
                with anchors unyielding, yet beautiful
with memories vibrant and ever and immortal . . .
and in meditation, I look beyond the firmament
to a heavenly utopia where there is only stillness
      a celestial unearthly place divine
             a paradise, tranquil and lovely
        where I sojourn in serenity . . .
and there, lissome and graceful I glide- a butterfly
I float and drift among ethereal emerald trees
yet, the foul besmirch of my past follows
all those shadows that restrain me
but the beauty beckons me . . .
I wish for silken repose and to rest my mind of thoughts
to dream- to sleep and slumber in total stillness
but, in dreams I struggle with the past
             so in blissful contemplation
        I find my peace in my quietude . . . .

When she was sky, their eyes held awe and fear
Meek worship of her chariots of sun
To her magnificence, they kneel, undone
On stone's sacrificial alter, revere

When she was heaven, paved in streets of gold
Preachers promised cleansed blood of sin, redeem
Salvation's ladder lift devout's esteem
Confession's coin, price of paradise sold

Now she is space astronauts navigate
Pure mathematical mystery explores
Modern Magellans map celestial shores
Lissome light's infinite answers await.
