L ittle voices, rising in volume and pitch
I mploring teacher, begs all available aids to help pop
C oats, hats, muffs, mitts, sweaters, gloves, socks, shoes, and boots on 39
K indergarten urchins who are galloping around the room, or jumping on ball
chairs.
E veryone is excited; the snow is falling and
T he five-year-olds woke up screaming with excitement,
Y elling their head dendrites off, dancing and galloping
S ix ways to Sunday, and it’s only Tuesday,
P rincipal skates into the room, “Lickety Split!” she yells.
“L et’s all help, and get them out there quick!” The 2nd grade teacher sticks in
her head to hollar,
“I ce will be here within the hour. Everybody help.” A bunch of 4th and 5th
graders run in to help dress
t hem. Seconds later, the worn-out Kindergarten
Teacher throws out a magic lasso, and 39 kindergarteners all grab hold. The next minute, they
land in a big snow drift.
“Lickety, lickety, yickety, bickety, pickety, split!” they all yell, running away in every conceivable direction.

Life is ebbing quickly, …just as the sun must fall.
If we listen close enough, our number will be called.
Can you hear a ticking clock, unwinding in the dark?
Keeping tempo like a train, that speeds upon a track?
Eyes may never look ahead, and heads will turn away.
There's no place to turn around, to visit yesterday.
Youth is gone in just a flash, so we must seize today!
Spend each moment, cherish it, .. as if a piece of gold.
Pretend each day is ours alone,…our very last to hold!
Love can be a legacy that we could leave behind.
Intentions are the stepping stones, that no one else will find.
Treasure life, and make it count, before it speeds away.

Lickety Split
Life is a vessel
Inside my mind
Creeping along
Knowingly
Elan is over when the sails topple
The wind ceases
Youth, and lulls old age
Such is the ascent and descent
Pressing on now in quick montages
Life in its infancy to ending
In a blink of prized tuna and weathered sails
This vessel sailed by much too fast

Lilacs
In the parks
Cruelly crushed
Killing the pink buds
Eliminating the poetry
Torturing hands rejoicing
Yellow yelling in the panick
Some poets say
Power flowering in
Lickety split in the corridor
In all the starlit lakes and ponds
Totter the tube roses at the capitalist glare

Lickety-split, I sit up and look at the clickety clock,
oh my gosh, why am I lollygagging in this cozy bed;
I am going to be so late for dance class, I better skedaddle,
so I canoodle my cats (hugs and kiss that is);
and like a flash I am out of bed!
Oh dear, what a rigmarole of unnecessary complexity,
I run to the kitchen and open a tin of, oh so stinky fish;
for the fur balls, (no accounting for taste,) my tummy rumbles,
I dress in my pink dance pants, brush my teeth;
I look in the mirror, holy macaroni!
I was going to wash the mop last night but didn't,
oh well, the flat iron turns me into a Cleopatra star;
then, I look outside, snow, lots of snow, blast I need boots,
oh yes under the bed where I flung them;
what a stupid kerfuffle!
Walking to dance, a bus sprays with me with slush,
darn nincompoop, I am thinking to myself and then;
a loud honk, and a car roars pass me, I almost have a stroke,
I finally make it and the receptionist says- cancelled,
cancelled, oh la-di-la, that's great!
I am walking back home when I step into a deep puddle,
and my feet are now soaking wet, I am just exhausted;
I will crawl back into my bed for a snoozle I say to me self,
but I am waylaid by my old fuddy-duddy neighbor;
dearie,(she whips out a grocery list)!
You know, I cannot walk in the snow, meantime her cat,
a fat Persian rubs my legs and I have fur from knees down;
but what can a girlie do, I turn around and hocus-pocus its done,
finally, I am standing in my bedroom all tatterdemalion,
like a child in rags, I feel like weeping!
And then I notice the collywobbles in my tummy,
like butterflies swirling, and then a great rumbling;
oh, damnation, I need something to eat, so I gongoozle,
stare that is, into the refrigerator, close the door, slam;
and grab a handful of cockamamie cookies!

Lightning striking a wooden gate
Iridescent rainbow colors that seem to fluctuate
Cheetahs chasing after their prey
King Cobras lunging bite's that can slay
Eyes sending messages to the brain
Twin tornados and torrential falling rain
Your heart beats circulating blood throughout your veins
Speed of light is tops and cannot be beat
Perspiration developing in the heat
Legs making haste in a race
Intelligent computers answering our questions quickly everyday
Tectonic plates shifting causing tsunami's and earthquakes

Laying in my bed all cozy and warm, and
inside the blankets my kitty cat snores, sweetly
captivating birds sing outside my window, and
kitty cat pokes her head out and says, M E O W !
Earsplitting and grating my alarm clock is blaring, and my
telltale sleepiness is leaving my head,
yet, I linger in my bed-
snoozing . . . .
peacefully, I snuggle deeper into my blankets, until
lickety-split, I shoot out of bed, screaming to no one
I am LATE! So hell bent and at full
tilt I am ready and leave- kitty y a w n s on the bed.

Long ago when I was young
I found cycling so much fun.
Climbing hills in fifth gear.
Keeping fit gave so much cheer.
Easily overtaking slower folk.
Teasing all those younger blokes.
Yes, a whiz kid was I.
Sadly age has taken a toll.
Panting now, I'm not so bold.
Lickity split I'm afraid not.
I have to admit my heart's in shock
To contemplate even a hillock.

Life is like a runaway train,
It's journey's speed, you can't restrain.
Can fill each day with what you please,
Keep special ones in memories,
Envision only, future days.
Timed trip is measured- and relays
You can't slow down or speed ahead.
So fast it zooms until you're dead.
Pilgrims stuck on time's fast track,
Lickety-split, no going back.
Into the void of endings, turns;
Train station waiting, no returns.

Like Speedy Gonzales
Instead of walking through life.. he is
Causing havoc with his racing around.
Knocking everything to the ground.
Each one of us have done this
Trying to be top of whatever we do
Yet we don’t realise, we are hurting you
Slow down my friends ..love life
Perceive nature, don’t cause yourself strife
Look at the flowers… the fields the clouds in the sky
Instead of closing your eyes and rushing by
Time waits for no man take pleasure in yours

L ost deep, the woods of tender age,
I feigned to quell my prurient rage ...
C aught amidst a gleam and glower,
K ept 'tween pages, pressed a flower.
E ach new and tragic love was meant

Y et as those windings wound to you ...
S ighs and moons came far too few.
