Best Fruit Fly Poems
I live amazed in an amphitheatre,
A huge red and white domed tent.
Working with actors and jesters,
Enduring a perpetual torment.
The crazies I know are the clowns,
Red nose and a big head of hair.
And the gym junkies, they’re the strongmen,
Wrestling each day with a junked up brown bear.
And the farmers are the animal acts,
Talking with elephants, lions and a monkey.
While the women down town, they’re the hula hoop spinners,
Forever looking so spunky.
Then there’s the boss in charge, she runs the sideshow,
With magic acts, rubber man and the pony.
She makes up the rules as she goes every day,
Turning up as the bearded lady.
My life is in the flying fruit fly circus,
Others, are they oblivious to sights I view.
Every day brings a new surprise, I see it, I wonder,
I’m curious, do you see it too?
Long live James Tate. :)

My mom calls me Lion
Because I’m the king of my domain.
She also calls me Tiger
Cause I’m horrible to tame!
My father calls me Monkey
When I jump up on the bed.
He thinks I’ll trip and fall,
And then I’ll bump my head.
My sister calls me Fruit Fly,
Cause I like to steal her food.
I also like to buzz by
And annoy her like one too!
My brother calls me Cheetah
Cause I always beat him when we race.
He also says it’s cause I have freckles on my face.
I even think my dog thinks I’m something too
Because he always barks at me when I come into the room.
Fruit fly, cockroach, random lie, here we go eternity sis-boom... bye.
Dust to dust, ashes to ashes, just like that, I am gone, after living out, like water up the spout it's all days gone bye.
Like a riddle, It's long, it's short, it goes by quick, after all, is said and done we don't really give a lick.
Chased the dream until I screamed, some attained, some elusive but at a price that is utterly too abusive.
Fruit fly, cockroach, random lie, here we go eternity sis-boom... sigh.
We just leave as we should because it's time, time for God's next trick. Rich man, poor man it don't matter none we have had our fill and our fun.
Next man up, fasten your seatbelt it's quite the ride, don't want to fall until it's your time to die........
Fruit fly, cockroach, random lie, here we go eternity... my oh my!
Everything true was just mere lies, some more, some less but lies nonetheless, deceived, distressed, completely undressed.
What to think, what to say, when all of one's beliefs are taken away, press pause? restart? reboot you say? It's all a bit late, it's all rather moot, wouldn't you say?
It's all very odd to begin the decline when everything seems strangely fine? It all weighs so heavily though on your mind.
Best not to think, just do! try to win each day as it's all anew. It's good, it's bad, it's happy, it's sad, my son calls me dad so I'm not feeling mad, just happy to be and, not, not be and to be as long as I possibly can be. Is that the answer? maybe? we'll see.......
Fruit fly, cockroach, random lie, here we go eternity... Please don't cry
For we die each night, Born again every day, take it or leave it, it's better that way. Take it!, take it, I say, try to make it just one more day, what more can one possibly say, but be thankful for just one more precious day.
Like the common fruit fly and cockroach, our life span is but a blink of an eye before we die, just minutes off the cosmic clock of which we have no apparent key to its eternal lock
Dear Fruit Fly
I don't like you
I can't stand you
Everywhere I go
You seem to be there
Staring me in my face
waiting for me to turn my back
so you can steal the food from off my plate
but today you really strike a nerve when you snatch my Eggo
That was my blueberry Eggo waffles
You and your compadres have to go
I had a enough
so here is a bus ticket
find somebody else home you can invade
Please fruit fly go away
You have over stayed your welcome
I long for the end of perverse MAGA malice
Led by the immoral, they are cold and callous
They have caused such disdain
Since Trump's menacing reign
While he sits inside his Mar A Lago palace
How daft the man to assume he owns everything
Documents and White House dishes he chose to sling
Ketchup thrown against the wall,
Trumpty is ready to fall
Shot down by his arrogance. Ow, how that must sting
He's such a libertine, and wickedly corrupt
When not getting his way, his temper will erupt
But now he's gone too far
According to Bill Barr
But Dumpy Trumpty will never ever fess up
I hope he won't have need to don that damned red tie
An orange suit he may not wear, and I'll decry
He should be an inmate
Enemy of each state
And more loathsome than the insect, we call 'fruit fly'
Some of you make fun of Biden's slips due to age
I prefer that man to an ogre filled with rage
One who defies the law
has a deep-seated flaw...
The Republican elephant on a rampage
Oh say, people, please tell me why you cannot see
how politician's lies have become so beastly
Don't bite Trump's baited hook
Stop believing that crook
He's the cause of conflicts on a family tree
Steady thrums of May rain
have soddened the evergreen earth,
and peonies are in full bloom again.
Hallelujah! A sublime rebirth.
The beauty that is spring,
as bright and colorful as the rainbow.
Foxgloves let their bells swing
as butterflies float about the meadow.
The sun shining in the noontide sky,
so hopeful and illuminating.
Petrichor swirls in the air like a fruit fly.
Its scent couldn't be more intoxicating.
The human race dance with glee
to the young spring's piano sonata.
Music to my ears! Bald eagles soar free
and nightingales compose their dulcet cantata.
The beauty that is spring,
as bright and colorful as the rainbow.
Foxgloves let their bells swing
as butterflies float about the meadow.

I stand on the hill and look at the sky,
Down the beaten path and the road I have come;
I peer upwards at the twilight sky and sigh
At last, the race, I have won.
Before me on the ground is the life I have lived
My family my friends all the things I have done,
At last on this hill I have arrived
Below I can see waving to me, my beloved grandson.
Oh this wonderful life I have lived, laughed and loved
I know it is time now to say goodbye;
Goodbye to my darling beloved
Goodbye to my favourite animal, the Mediterranean fruit fly.
Goodbye to hot baths, cool drinks and stormy nights.
Goodbye to good books, to treats and wind in the leaves.
Goodbye to snow, Christmas and to the Festival of Lights.
Goodbye to hot chocolate, laughter, joy and long flannel sleeves.
Goodbye to mountain landscapes, the ocean and so much more,
I must go now, to the future, in the light, forevermore.
Goodbye to the world I have lived, laughed and loved.

notebook
shut killing
a fruit fly dead
gone
By the kitchen sink my time is lost,
hovering by a random fruit fly flies by,
by a hanging holiday trinket of a glass blue-eye
foreground to the view of the Elmworth estate
before me, a window of a world unfolding,
dawn breaking beyond
to the sound of traffic.
Soft skin under a hot tap,
on with the washing,
sponge, liquid rinse and thoughts straining,
mixed in the conveyor belt of doing,
looking, feeling filtered water dripping
corroding thoughts of my own reflections
humid droplets out the corners of my strained eyes.
Cutlery clattering plates brittle like cymbals,
piercing the quiet morning,
radio spirals through mumbling boiling kettles,
swollen tea bags, woven plans of action,
thin discussions on the weather or ‘did you sleep well?’
Kids in breakfast motion, buttered toast crunch,
routine before school.
Part-remembered dream leftovers,
replenished sink, dirty bowls and plates.
A finite pause, escaping the start
of the day ahead.
Days pass, evenings draw-on,
moons wax and wane,
a stolen lifetime looking down plug-holes,
scouring off baked-on layers,
washed down drainage pipes, let fantasy unfold
so many begotten thoughts, age forgotten,
tears of solitary agony suffused joy,
sundrops raining through the window,
imbued recollection, a veil lifted
playing back impressions made, of yesterdays,
revealed poverty, where words might be
in unutterable matters of poetic form,
soul-searching at the crude metallic altar.
They had two children
a boy and a girl
They'd done their bit
for a crowded world
Billions then living in poverty
Conditions heartbreakingly unsanitary
The 'moral' thing for parents to do
If having kids, stop at two
So dad had a vasectomy
Quickly and quite easily
His tubes were tied
Hs conscience satisfied...
Yet just eight months later
He wished he'd had
an appendectomy
or tonsillectomy --
anything but a vasectomy
,
For his baby daughter had died of SIDS
and now he could father no more kids
Just as painful, down the road
his son came out as gay
~ No grandchildren for him; no way
"Be fruitful and multiply"
Was commanded not just to the fruit fly
But to Adam and Eve, now mocked with mirth --
Though my poor friend with a vasectomy
Knows only pain on this Earth
He wants you to have as many children as you can
Not to think that you're privy to the Divine plan
Futile effort to plunger the clogged kitchen sink...
courtesy malfunctioning garbage disposal

How Much Filth Did You Eat Today?
By Elton Camp
What can a title like this one possibly mean?
Isn’t food inspected by the FDA perfectly clean?
No, Food Defect Action Levels the FDA has set
They only limit how high insect fragments can get
There may be up to ten fly eggs in a tomato can
Or else up to two maggots is the alternate plan
Consumers who might eggs to maggots prefer
Cannot know which of these happened to occur
A hundred grams of peanut butter is able to contain
Thirty insect parts or else one rodent hair may remain
Popcorn may have twenty gnawed grains per pound
Or else the standard is that two rodent hairs are found
There’s scant comfort that mushrooms can pass exams
If a tin contains up to twenty maggots per 100 grams
Actually the taste of the food they won’t hurt at all,
But the squeamish factor may make some folks squall
Thirty fruit fly eggs in 100 grams of ketchup are okay
Two maggots per hundred blueberries FDA does say
None of these contamination levels should cause alarm
To our health they are believed not to cause any harm
Exactly what it is that we are eating it’s best to ignore
If perfectly clean, the food we couldn’t afford anymore
So just forget about this and enjoy as you gulp it down
And hope that, in it, not a single mouse pellet was found
