Notes About The Poem

The Beauty That Is Spring

Steady thrums of May rain
   have soddened the evergreen earth,
and peonies are in full bloom again.
         Hallelujah! A sublime rebirth.

            The beauty that is spring,
as bright and colorful as the rainbow.
         Foxgloves let their bells swing
as butterflies float about the meadow.

The sun shining in the noontide sky,
          so hopeful and illuminating.
Petrichor swirls in the air like a fruit fly.
Its scent couldn't be more intoxicating.

The human race dance with glee
to the young spring's piano sonata.
Music to my ears! Bald eagles soar free
and nightingales compose their dulcet cantata.

               The beauty that is spring,
as bright and colorful as the rainbow.
            Foxgloves let their bells swing
as butterflies float about the meadow.

Edward, what a beautiful image of cherry blossoms shading the wild grasses and blue river! Equally beautiful is your ode to spring. "Hallelujah, a sublime rebirth" indeed! Too many wonderful phrases to mention here. Congratulations on your win in the spring contest! ~ John

Spring truly is the MOST beautiful of all the seasons. So what is YOUR generation, Edward. I am thrilled you enjoyed my poem on the last of the baby boomers. I think you stand a great chance in the spring contest with this gem.

I agree 100%! Spring is a gorgeous season. Not my favorite--Autumn is--but the most dazzling, for sure. I grew up in the 80s. Thanks, Andrea:-) I hope Emile likes it enough to place it!

I've haven't read much of your poetry, Edward, but this is my favorite of yours so far. VERY poetic. "Petrichor swirls in the air like a fruit fly" << the star of the show! Best of luck in the contest, my friend.
