Best Fountains Poems
It was the Main Street hangout for the teenagers of its day.
For a nickel they could dream as they heard the jukebox play!
Wispy white metal chairs surrounded tables topped with glass.
(There were secluded booths where lads could woo their lass!)
From the tin covered ceiling hung a fan with its whirring blade,
And arrayed along the soda fountain were the tools of the trade.
Symmetric white and black tiles covered the spotless floor.
A gleaming steel and marble counter completed its bright decor!
Presiding over all was a guy oddly named the "soda jerk."
Clad in impeccable white, he took great pride in his work.
He was a wizard at his craft and when his sorcery was done,
He'd whipped up a heavenly treat that couldn't be outdone!
A Hamilton mixer, scoops and ladles were the tools of his trade.
In a trice he'd make a root beer float or some tasty lemonade,
Hot fudge sundae, banana split, soda or strawberry shake,
Cherry coke or any such concoction you'd ask him to make!
The "soda jerk" did his duties with consummate skill and grace,
Always with a ready quip and a contented smile upon his face.
Fast food joints or drive-ins today do not have that elegant flair,
That yesteryear's soda fountains and ice cream parlors had to share!

Two crystal clear streams reach into the night
Give misty waves of intrigue to the eyes
Lazily falling from shadowy skies
Then explode in motion enhanced by lights
Suddenly the pool of water takes flight
Swaying and dancing, the droplets they shine
Those syncopated bursts perfectly timed
Sometimes in color, other times in white
That prismatic mist suspends in mid air
Left side then right side it sparkles and plays
Orgasmic excitement with lively tunes
Such exhilaration beyond compare
As quickly as it starts the water lays
Sleeping quietly reflecting the moon

Carnage of unrelenting desert sun
Sun bakes, flora are impermeable
Impermeable unlike those who run
Run to hydration, inevitable
Inevitable crystallization
Crystallization of sweat on their brows
Brows no longer yield precipitation
Precipitation in their prayers, and how
How requisite drink does invigorate
Invigorate the flagging runner’s mind
Mind looks for something to alleviate
Alleviate sun, rising from behind
Behind them, misery, ahead, mirage
Mirage of pools and fountains, soul carnage.

~Fountains Of Knowledge~
(Hotan)
Books are just awesome
They make my heart so happy
Help learn things I want to know
Much to read
Many things to learn
I'm excited
I want to know more
Many help me grow each day
Books bring inside many joys and dreams.

~Author's Notes:
The "Hotan" is a Japanese form, being a combination of a Haiku (hokku = ho) and a Tanka (tan).

Free verse
People are drawn to the water fountains
Water fountains are all different
They are round, square,oval short
Yet a crowd always gathers here
Someone holds a coin-makes a wish
Then throws the coins-into the fountain
Hoping that their wishes made comes true
The fountain filled with coins
No one knows which coin the fountain
will bless
Only the fountain knows which coin
will be blessed
So people hope that it will be theirs.
Yet only one coin is blessed.

Water Fountains dancing to all kinds of music
And lights
Transform
The night
As they perform.
Did this conform with my idea of norm?
It was plain to my brain
That this was a unique form
In which to entertain.
Water fell back in to a water tight terrain
To go through the tubes to escape
Like colorful water sprites after a rain
With no shape to have people's
Mouths gape.

(The fantastic excursion for children from 6 to11 years)
On coast of deserted waves…
Alecsandr Pushkin
INTRODUCTION:
1.
On the coast of the Baltic sea,
Peterhof still stands and remembers.
It is the keeper of memory of the centuries,
and the creation of Tzar Peter the Great.
2.
There is the kingdom of dancing water,
Palaces, sculptures, gardens to see.
Every day, there is cheerful laughter,
and everyone can have much joy!
3.
But every night, here under the moon,
you can see the other world:
the forest ghosts, the water maidens
who sing and dance, and with them,
Marble Eve and Adam.
4.
Sculptures of the Mountain
are figures of a chess game,
pawns, knights, castles, king and queen.
Warrior Samson plays chess with Triton
from midnight to dawn.
5.
There, shadows wander among forest paths,
and silhouettes of ships
are floating somewhere far
above the waves.

Presidential Library Fountains
By Elton Camp
Presidential libraries reveal the man
Both his foibles and his plan
A fountain stands in front of each
Facts about the president to teach
Nixon’s gives the viewer a little peek
Of a plumber while stopping a leak
Kennedy’s fountain looks a lot
Like a scene from Camelot
Johnson’s is like a battle scene
The worst U.S. history has seen
The Reagan fountain’s like a microphone
As the Great Communicator he’s known
The Clinton library fountain space
Show a kneeling woman in disgrace
Bush number one is a fine sight
Showing a thousand points of light
But for Bush number two
Only a waterboarding will do
On and on goes the fountain list
Several presidents have been missed
Realize this poem is only a pretense
So please don’t take any offense

Out of the good
the bad emerges.
The cold wind bites.
The ocean surges.
Waves appearing
as big as mountains.
Like a toy boat
in the fountains.
Your miles from land
and it doesn't look good.
So you say a prayer to God
that's understood.
You've been here before
when all your hope died.
The promises were made.
I'm gonna change, you lied.
This time I really mean it
you convince yourself.
On your knees knowing it's over.
Again you plead for his help.
Please Lord, if I make it this time
no more lies will I be caught in.
But then the sun comes out
and the promises are forgotten.

Narrative
Sorrow spoke the alphabet,
Turned upside down.
The little girl will bring, they said...
She will bring cemetery corruption.
Turned upside down alphabet.
Fountains will bloom executions down to the aqueduct.
Stripes arranged flat in the ground of the jail where pupils ran orange,
Lines across the story,
Tell her of her grave.
Blue hearts perfectly presented,
Around a pink fountain.
Future stands in the horizon,
Tattooed heart, she will bring.
Nobody knows if she will stay for long,
But she spoke sorrow in a stereo telegram,
as she cried in an alphabet voice and tone,
where spiders fell on her cheeks...
Turned upside down alphabet.
Fountains will bloom executions down to the aqueduct, for all of us.

Wishful Wonder
If you make a wish a thousand times to know the secret of the skies.
Will it take ‘til the cock crows for the elephant to share what he knows?
Is the answer hidden within the twinkle of one’s eyes? For this truly_ is where truth lies; _
As I am told by the withered ancient old _ of brightly spun tales sung by friendly fairies.
Aww! but all know how the facts do vary_
Amongst the bedtime stories to be told_ stared into the chambers of the young as their wee eyes doth fold _ into the darkness of the flight to the world beyond tonight.
On their travel perch wise owl to assure the journey free of foul _ deeds which lurk yet nigh _ always distant close nearby.
Over the treetops up tall mountains to the springs of sparkling fountains.
To drink of lifelong wisdom. Bathe away the shadows deep. Ask the angels your soul to keep. Be not your plight as willows weep.
Pray they keep a hand upon thee _ comfort thee from head to feet? Guard thy dreams whilst thee sleep.
To yield upon thee _Let thy deeds decide thy fate. Be them made with good intent. With humble heart thine time, be spent. Bless thy spirit be full of strength. Of earthly burdens doth not break. Much work of hands to undertake.
Return thee now; to the new of day_ For in this place thou cannot stay. Hark! these winds wisp thee away.

Idyll (Idyl)
i chased you around in circles
until we both were out of breath
you caught me a golden butterfly
and watched me as you let it go
we danced in forever fountains
and got caught up in our dreams
we told each other secrets
and made promises we could never keep
we kissed each other's innocence
and watched it fly in forever fountains
like golden butterflies sometimes do

Meet me by the fountains brink
bring your quill and maybe ink
for you are all ones that blink
20, 40 count them all
but watch your step
as you may fall.
