Best Evokes Poems
You lay upon the warm wet earth
now ripped from limb to limb.
Your present shape denies the girth
of your form in its prime.
A life cut short and denied its worth
about you ivy climbs,
my love for you evokes the hearth
a bonfire which knows no end time.
Now fallen, slain, cast for rebirth,
the core of you sublime,
an earthly stump, at forest skirt
reminds me of grand times.
Soon, I too will go beyond the earth
recalling passion's prime,
through the veil of life unearthed
my heart returned to thine.

Eventide’s misty winds gently oscillate
Colorful clusters of crepe-myrtle flowers
Crowning atop rows of elegant tree-trunks
Blooms lavender, pink, red, and purple
Hanging in air from tips of twigs slender
Bowing to earth, donning green foliage
Arrayed in symmetrical flower-bouquets.
On a summer stroll, my hand you hold,
Gazing rhythms tilting back and forth
Swaying gracefully symphony of colors
As synchronized whispers merrily rustle
Echoing intentions of doting twilight sun
Beholden to season's gift of blossoms.
Gales now swirl, petite petals disperse,
Whirling confetti, drifting dances aerial,
Sprinkling fine motifs of tinted splendor
Twisting, turning, in eve’s amber passion
Flying all over, as we gaze, wooing love,
Where violet-sky above artfully evokes
Opaline glimpses of dreams ephemeral
Inscribed in spectrum on crimson horizon.

Midnight Romance
Dusk falls quickly on cerulean skies
Day morphs from ash of roses to sable
Our love's vision flashes before my eyes
Midnight romance, like an ancient fable
Charcoal sketches meander in my mind
While jasmine-absinthe incense is burning
it's smoke, evokes passions clearly defined
porcelain skin blushes with love's yearning
Obsidian-ebony eyes that gleam
pleading to quench needy soulful desire
beckoning me to unite in the dream
willingly, I rush to put out the fire
My mind's eye sees quivering crimson lips
As love drips from ivory fingertips

The warm temperature drops outdoors,
And first drops of fresh rain sprinkle.
The thunder claps right above me,
As lightening is striking afar.
Dust is blowing in the wind,
Trees are bending fiercely,
A train horn blares,
As the core nears me.
Then sudden silence,
A calm reappears.
Electrical fires start,
For a moment one
Thinks it’s over,
Then it starts
Again quickly.

Twilight evokes my tranquility and silence of the night,
with my peaceful guidance between the moon and the stars,
the placid eclipse in the universe is so calm and bright,
I play my melodies so gently on my acoustic guitar.
With my peaceful guidance between the moon and the stars,
there is a symphony shining through the constellations,
I play my melodies so gently on my acoustic guitar,
between sundown and nightfall there is a correlation.
There is a symphony shining through the constellations,
I feel a tune so vibrant with echoes of a midnight chorus,
between sundown and nightfall there is a correlation,
I see the paragon moon reflect equanimity before us.
I feel a tune so vibrant with echoes of a midnight chorus,
the stillness exclaims compassion for the world to see,
I see the paragon moon reflect equanimity before us,
Mother Nature has created nocturnal brilliance, so free.
The stillness exclaims compassion for the world to see,
for some the silence of nightfall seems so hard to find,
Mother Nature has created nocturnal brilliance, so free,
as the halcyon dusk sets, ready for the destiny of mankind.
For some the silence of nightfall seems so hard to find,
the placid eclipse in the universe is so calm and bright,
as the halcyon dusk sets, ready for the destiny of mankind,
twilight evokes my tranquility and silence of the night.

In a crystal vase, a flower bouquet I arrayed:
Iris flowers purple, yellow on its outer edge
Interlaced with a layer of tulips burgundy-red
Beholden to support of emerald green stems
And gracing the center are tall pink rose buds
Warning their sharp prickles not to interfere
With romantic dreams of a budding ruby rose
Unfolding slowly, and revealing just enough--
A mere glimpse at the stares of secret lovers.
You stand there, admiring symphony of colors
When evening sun peeks in, twinkling white crystal
As your smile evokes verses of love, divulging so little
Much like a first kiss, reluctant to say more.

Nostalgia is a longing for a person or a place that evokes happy memories. Its an
Oasis for the soul that harbors in the center of our hearts and draws us back to the
Safe haven of our most sacred places. It contains the pull of an all familiar feeling;
Territorial as a tug boat in the sea it has the ability to transport us without notice
Across the miles of our present, into the deep abyss of our past. It is often said that
Love is always remembered by the way it made us feel, and places by their scent;
Granny's peppermint candies and mother's garlic sauce, are two precious memoirs
I often go back to my first teachers and lose myself in recollection of home. It was
An era of youthful abandon. Golden days full of spirited living and so much love.

You're poetry that rhymes even in prose
Melody of your sound everyone knows
Who's seen the beauty of a gifted rose
And heard the lyrics of the wind that blows
You are the fragrance fresh flowers reveal
Like the gentle whiff of a tender kiss
And in your essence is joyful appeal
That evokes the charm of genuine bliss
You are the music from apex of thrill
That resonates wishes of every soul
You are a sweet dream of romantic will
And in its corner happily you stroll
Oh, how enchanting is glow of your fame
That ignites a blaze in sound of your name

THE PATH WELL TRAVELLED.
Two paths diverged, and I was thrown by doubts I had never known
To my left, thickly overgrown, was a path to dismal dimness prone.
To my right, a lovely sight-fragrant flora flamed in light
Forms so graceful, beauty rare, a wonderous vision beyond compare.
Both seduced with equal right, torn was I between dark and light.
Resisting limits of time and sight, a liminal border of cosmic might.
Hesitancy rapt with fear and doubt, the pondering heart beat aloud.
Tempting was the path so grand, but instinct cautioned of a treacherous hand.
A feathery touch, a breeze stirred, and in its sigh, a voice I heard.
Was it Hecate who whispered?
"Take heed. Beware, for each path leads to a different lair."
Crystal clarity knew what I must do, and with a heart filled with valour true,
Joyously, I strode wild and free down the well-trodden path ahead of me.
The leaves, like frisking lovers, played as I embarked my chosen way.
Future paths ~ So many dreams ~ Each a thread in life's grand scheme.
Though true discovery lay in paths, I'd roam ~
The one well travelled always led back Home.
By Maria Williams ©
Greeks worshipped Hecate as a guardian and gatekeeper who could ward off evil forces. She is often represented carrying a torch and a key and standing on the liminal border between one place and another. She bears three heads and always has a dog by her side.
Inspired by Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken', I chose to write an alternative version.
'The Road Not Taken' is one of Robert Frost's most famous poems. It's natural and understandable that many readers take the poem to be Frost's statement of individualism as a poet: he will take 'the road less travelled'.
The metaphor of the road is one that immediately evokes a journey, not just of the local or day-to-day kind, but of the life-defining sort: life as a journey, with many roads which we must travel along, and with many alternative paths which we must choose between.

Stormy winds swing canopies of trees
Swaying dark shadows upon my reverie
Glimmering through forest-green leaves
Sunlight filtered by cumulous clouds
As raindrops pitter-patter on sidewalk
Drenching instincts ambling in the park.
Sun-rays soon flicker, as rain-clouds part
Spreading golden dust on cobalt-blue sky
Intermittently oscillating light and dark
Floating breezy patterns on emerald grass.
The multi-hued sky then picks up my vibes
As charming horizon evokes your smile.
The voice I hear, speaks to me so softly
First time ever, it greets me with a kiss
Holding my posture, I sprint for a glimpse.
But there's no one, for no one there was
Except the chatter of agitated bird calls
Warning of danger from a lone stranger
Conjuring daydreams in fleeting rainstorm.

Belief is the nemesis of uncertainty,
in times of torment we keep faith
in God's gift of blessings bestowed upon us.
In a world without morals
Children of summer seek refuge
in colder climates; leaving behind
loved ones in the care of the almighty.
In days of Devilish darkness,
sad stars hibernate like somber souls.
Upon the return of solitude,
whilst shaping strings of silence,
a troubled tongue becomes a soundless voice.
Reminiscing unredeemed memories,
heartbeats echo gently at nightfall,
as a black blanket covers indigo horizons.
Shrouded shadows in manipulative mirrors,
shield the sensitivity of sincere speech.
Without words, embodied emotions,
integrate into invisible inflictions.
Perpetual pain from a poisonous past,
repeats in an unrhymed repetitive rhythm,
as fragile fingers trigger hidden trauma.
There are secrets in suppression,
with so much lost in a suicide of expression.
Spiteful spirits reappear, reflecting like
neoteric neon drops on midnight shores,
washing away forlorn forgotten footsteps.
Trials of time leave behind trails of truth,
as facts of fate fail in this false fairground.
Reflections of regret resonate a reality,
where the world is working on its own worries.
In hollow nothingness, no one offers holy hope -
only silence remains.
As snow covers frozen shores,
hearts look to horizons of higher powers.
Hope for a prospect of principles
from our creator, creates
realms of reverie offering refuge.
Lost in a moonlight dream world,
dormancy evokes pale hued horizons.
A serene scene of saffron, scarlet shades,
glowing gloriously in a devotional dawn.
After an advent of adversity,
ascending in adornment of appreciation -
born again blooms blossom to butterfly breaths.

The day is done. Travel dispersed, no more roaming.
Between dusk and sunset, it’s the gloaming.
I settle to watch, inspired by that instant moment,
When day gives over to night a regal bestowment.
Lights begin to shimmer, as we near twilight.
Across the horizon created a radiant glow so bright.
This magical moment captured with a deep ruby hue.
Detailing an exquisite hefty crimson etched in view.
Streams of color blend seamlessly in swirls of delight.
Heavily embossed across the faded sky, birds in flight.
Sunset’s glowing color of crimson and gold,
As night’s velvety blanket begins to unfold.
Whispers of a breeze wafting gently, flickers a scent.
Evokes aromatic bursts, sensual yet earthy by intent.
With a sweetness, and a warm tranquil overtone.
I am nestled snugly, captivated by joy I've never known.
Capturing my imagination of a candle in glorious blaze,
My breath extinguishing it to create the dark night haze.

Look up to see a dome of black velvet
lavishly set with crystals of starlight.
And watch time confetti infinity;
unveiling trillions of lights to the night.
Mars and Jupiter share a reddish tinge
as Venus and Mercury pierce Night's haze.
And though Neptune and Uranus are faint,
Saturn's elegance evokes songs of praise.
A pocked-faced moon garnering golden beams
smiles as a cloud of bats goes flying by.
And gravity pulls shooting stars to Earth;
splintering night in the blink of an eye.
Clouds inked smoky purple and ashen grey;
shift hues, like chameleons out to play.

Care not I for the day at noon,
air filled with the humidity of June,
Where is my full mystic moon,
share your golden radiance with me soon,
Bear witness to a lonely cricket's tune,
there you shine on every land, lake and dune.
Will the man in the moon smile bright?,
hill, tree and meadow are bathed in night,
Kill and extinguish the cloudy starlight,
sill of my window glowing luminous white,
Still is my heart as I see a glorious sight,
fills the sky as it reaches it's height.
Why wait there and make me weep?,
shy and slowly over the mountain top creep,
I thought that you were fast asleep,
my wandering gaze I shall forever keep,
Thy orange coloring is rich and deep,
by the time of the fall harvest reap.
It is time to play freely and escape,
visit me shrouded with a sheer silver drape,
Quit hiding and rise in a crescent shape,
sit above every blue snow, lagoon and cape,
Lit orbs eclipse, hued like a purple grape,
permit my wish and my mouth shall gape.
Make the night as bright as day,
lake waves seem to shimmer a silver-gray,
Break through the horizon, if you may,
opaque pearl that evokes a wolves' bay,
Wake early and until dawn, stay,
take all of my melancholy feelings away.
You mystify me as you wax and wane,
knew this waiting would drive me insane,
Do illuminate, please do not refrain,
too many evenings have ended in rain,
New moons alight every street, road and lane,
blue light now gleaming in my window pane.

A tent of brightly coloured wool
Along an effervescent pool
Filled with deliciously cool streams
This would last a week and I would surely weep
For in my sorrows, I made haste
Beneath a bleak sky adorned with clouds of thought
Menacing a downpour of grief
I left the bosom of my camp
And could not recall my steps
The fierce winds of the desert deleted my trail
As the winds of time would delete my memory from all that ever beheld me
The clouds of thought once again embraced my mind and etched on the bleak skies a certain name
A name sweeter than sweetness itself
With a velvety texture surpassing that of silk
A name that transcended the barren plains dancing around on the tongues of angels
And stretched to the bitter and sweet seas
It is a name unlike which any man has ever beheld
For though many share it
None could wear it with her grace, borne of the musk of paradise itself
A name that evokes images of beautiful pearls
One that sends shivers down my spine
When I envision her delicate visage
A name that spreads warmth from the core of my soul
Which slowly percolates through my being to the tip of my nose
This name can only be the perfectly sculpted form of -????? whose true beauty transcends that of meaningless words
A mellifluous name when uttered in any tone
It shimmers and shines and radiates brilliantly
Even upon the twisted tongue of the vilest crone
I remember the day when the winds of authority blew on our firm grasp
And whisked her away on the cursed back of an evil black horse
And it is with this heaviness that I thus sink
Into a pitiless lake of anguish
