Midnight Romance

Midnight Romance

Dusk falls quickly on cerulean skies
Day morphs from ash of roses to sable
Our love's vision flashes before my eyes
Midnight romance, like an ancient fable

Charcoal sketches meander in my mind
While jasmine-absinthe incense is burning
it's smoke, evokes passions clearly defined
porcelain skin blushes with love's yearning

Obsidian-ebony eyes that gleam
pleading to quench needy soulful desire
beckoning me to unite in the dream
willingly, I rush to put out the fire

My mind's eye sees quivering crimson lips
As love drips from ivory fingertips

Well said John , No it's sad but not fiction. He was my best friend for over 40 years. He died in 2001 and his Wife, Children and me talk about him like he is Still here.

Thanks Jan, someone must have pulled out of Dales contest, I don't understand how I ended up in 10th place, but anyway, I'll take it. Yes I see we are 1 and 2 on the top 100, so that is a nice surprise, for me, finally after 2 years I break into the top ten. Yours is where it should be I recognized immediately it was a winner! Congrats on a worthy number 1.

Oh, man, this is just gorgeous, John, and so well crafted from beginning-to-end, with fluid meter and exquisite imagery - just loving this and must fav! I find these contests with so many requirements and "supplied" words just too daunting at this point, (to the point where I haven't entered any), and I so admire anyone who does, and who can weave such a sublime tapestry as this while doing so ... just stunning, Brother! :-)

Thanks Greg, but I look at it differently, all the beautiful words were provided, I didn't have to think of them(and probably never would have) so it's like a jigsaw puzzle to me I'm given the pieces but just have to put them together. For you a poet with an amazing vocabulary would find the required words as a hindrance to your writing style, so thanks anyway but don't feel I deserve much credit!

An exceedingly worthy poem, John. Without a doubt the Sonnet is an extremely difficult beast to master; try as I may I have never managed even one half-decent attempt. Very well done indeed! My very warmest regards as always. :) john P.s Congrats - and deservedly so!

I love the challenge of the contests John and the longest I took was with one called 'homeward Bound' where the lyrics had to fit set music, i am not musical at all and I think its probably the poem I'm most proud of - it took me about 5 days to write in total:-) hugs jan xx

Thanks John, I had a lot of difficulty with this one, not only a sonnet but with ten words assigned to use, well let's just say 3 days is too long to write a poem. I think you could do it, you are so gifted, me my forte is songwriting, but every once in a while I challenge myself with something out of my comfort zone, like this, glad you liked it, I am honored by your visit and kind words!
