Not a Noodle, a Poodle

My sister likes to doodle
I thought she drew a noodle
She gave me a glare
And tugged at my hair
And told me t'was a poodle.

The Peanut Butter Club

Ev’ry night, just ‘bout nine
              This story does unfold
The living room is quiet
              My puppy’s nose is cold

The TV plays a drama
              We’re watching, all is well
In fact, my pup is sleeping
As far as I can tell

A bit of hunger hits me
             The pantry in my sight
I tiptoe ‘cross the carpets
             So quiet while in flight

No matter my endeavor
I turn to see a tail
Wave above the sofa
           Following my trail

Before I touch the jar
He knows just what I’ll do
I’m caught, there’s no denying
         “Yes, there’s some for you”

This little game, each night we play
           My finger now a stub
As we have just concluded
         “The Peanut Butter Club “

For my little Monte
Who just adores peanut butter
“Natural, extra chunky, of course”

The neighbours went off on their yearly vacation,
Off to visit some foreign nation.
Leaving me keys and a list a mile long,
To watch their pets. What could go wrong?

The rottweiler is a gentle soul
As long as there's always food in her bowl.
The trick is filling it as quick as can be,
So you need to be fast, faster than me.

The birds take pride in emptying their dishes
All over the floor, and then there's the fishes.
So there's food and water and then food again,
Making sure there's enough to last until when

The next day begins and we start it anew.
I'm told there's a cat. Really! Who knew?
If there is , it certainly keeps itself hid.
It's like playing hide and seek with some little kid.

Walking the dog has become quite a chore.
She sees the leash and runs for the door.
After being dragged two miles the walk finally starts.
The dog is immense, she should be pulling carts.

Back to the house and the hide and seek game.
If there is a cat, it doesn't come to it's name.
The birds are now staring at their seeds on the floor.
I refuse to refill the dishes as I head to the door.

So this daily ritual will last another week
And I'll keep trying to win the game of hide and seek.
Thank goodness their vacation only comes once a year.
After watching the pets ....I could sure use a beer.

Quote By Poet "Puppies and kittens are what little kids dreams are made of."

My puppy is tan and small,
she likes to sleep in mommy's shawl.
She loves to play ball,
while I play with my doll.
We like to play outside,
where she will run and hide.
I will put her in my doll buggy for a ride,
her smile becomes a mile wide.
It's time to go inside,
dinner is ready with chicken that has been fried.

A Dog and a Cat and a Flea

A dog and a cat and a flea,
All sat down to some tea,
They all ate some ham,
With some bread and some jam,
And were all as content as can be.

Tanka This, That, Those and Them

cat, dog, food, humor, mom, pain, summer,

I tripped over feet
My shoe laces both came undone
Slid in my 'spilled' milk
Cut my finger on broke glass
My blood now was mixed in milk!

I sat on a chair
It was much too low for me
Table top held my chin
Knees folded I knelt down below
My neck got cramped looking up!

Taking a 'soap' soak
I washed my hair in 'suds' water
Forgot to rinse 'wash'
Let the bath drain of cold water
Had to take a shower too!

I bit my finger
A huge delicious apple
Choked on pieces bitten
And swallowed a broken tooth
It left an empty hole then!

Pits are wicked on teeth
Cherry pits the worse for wear
Three cherries at once
Eaten you choke on a pit
If swallowed you then will die!

Pepper makes a sneeze
Then coughing up of chewed food
Follows up the throat
Adding 'more' to the food plate
Appetite all lost!

Close your eyes and wish
Once upon a time like 'right' now
My mom told me so
Magic will make a wish come true
Then I learnt she fibs white lies!

Cats and dogs skip rope
Jumping around up and down
When the double-dutch stops
Cat and dog hair flies about
Then the fight is done double time!

Touring on my bike
I flipped ' head over heels' and rolled
 Down grassy culverts below
Upon a stinking skunk hole
Startling the homeowners there!

Belly laugh causes much gas
That builds wind into a toot
Relieving more pain
Reaching a higher stink bomb
That calls more laughter!

My peaches are very ripe
I squeezed one to check them out
Grab'n napkins and bowl
When bitten into juices pour
 Sliding stickily down my chin!

Corn on the cob needs
Melted butter and wood toothpicks
 Small bits catch in teeth
Cob takes two hands for chomping
All the kernels in a row!

Shaved cabbage ' coleslaw'
Sliced hamburger buns with meat
Chopped onions with sauces
Causes gall bladder heartburn pain
 Trapped gasses giving 'piglet' shame!

My big old dog had no tail
He laid around because he was frail
He ran away with June
Frisky living on the moon
Dinner is fried green and blue quail

Kublia with his laughing smile
Whoever has food is his best pal
His sad eyes as big as saucers
Tail wagging anticipating offers
He'll eat whatever you eat
People food is always a special treat
Genghis cautious ears fold back
If it ain't meat he wants none of that
Sniffs the air trying to decide
What it is Kublia can't be deny
Pancake breakfast and Kublia explodes
Flapjacks his nose glows
Mouth waters and dance in place
Pancakes make an happy face
Throw him a piece and he snaps it in the air
Swallows it whole no time to spare
Toss two bits he catches one then the other
Little Genghis confused by his brother
Hand Genghis a piece of pancake
He sniffs it once and his head shakes
Put it down on the ground
He licks it once and seems to frown
Kublia with long snot
Flips Genghis from behind with clout
Eats the pancake in a second clear
Genghis hurt treated unfair
Give Genghis a second piece
He stands his ground for his feast
Growls and stares as Kublia advances
There will be no second chances
Kublia eager slides around
Genghis worried gulps it down
Head up he struts and turns
Kublia late he got burned
Now feed Genghis food he doesn't like
He'll gulp it down out of spite
To keep Kublia from a treat and a grin
Genghis eats to defy him.

Not My “Buddy”

When my friend Nancy moved to a new apartment
For the remainder of her Senior year
Her doggone dog “Buddy” was not allowed
As she asked for my help, I was moved by her tears

A tiny brown mutt who wore a red bandana
Was not a visitor I wanted to take in
But she thought her dog was the top banana
To ease Nancy’s concerns, I finally took him

He was supposed to come with food and instructions
Never before had I provided for a dog’s care
But when Nancy drove up and Buddy arrived at my house
His food and care guide had vanished in thin air

My cats were upset, hid under the couch and bed
As Buddy sniffed around the house for playmates
I called Nancy when Buddy tore up my new rug
She said he was lonely and just needed a date

Nancy suggested I take him on car trips
Buddy fancied himself to be a world traveler
But dog smells linger and I gave him no rides
So he found vengeance by climbing into a sewer

The nine-month school year lingered forever
By now my cats had taken to escaping in trees
When June finally came, I couldn’t wait to say goodbye
But that’s when Nancy sobbed and moaned, “Oh, pretty please.”

Her mother didn’t want Buddy at her house either
And Nancy asked me to keep him all summer
When I replied, “No, he needs to spend time with you”
I quickly lost my best friend, what a bummer!

A Dog With Out a Name

It rained again last night, as he woke up from the muddy dirt
he always sleep in.
As he stretches out as far as he can, ouch he said my body hurts
me so very bad again.
The bowl for food and water remain empty, and the grassy areas
are so far away.
No home anymore the home I once had seems so far away it makes
me so, so sad.
I am hurting so bad I just want to stay in today so no one will be
mean to me.
I search the trash cans, dumpsters all around this town when people
see me they say ‘get out of here’.
I runaway as fast as I can while I lay down to rest my body, legs and
paws the food was thrown out.
my belly is groaning, I am so thirsty, can’t remember the last time
I had ate any real food, all I eat is stick, twigs and grass.
Lonely as much as a dog can be, not one person reaches their hand out
 to me.
Night time came and he settles in for another lonely sleepless night.
Now all that remains is a small grave with the words that someone had
written, here lays a ‘dog with out a name’.
It's sad it was to late for this dog I now named 'Jake' no more pain,
hunger or thirst for him.
Rest in peace my Jake and we will meet you someday again.
