Best Distresses Poems
When gusty winds blow, riling my troubled dawn in gelid woes
Squall of my throes dissipates in scented whiffs of budding rose.
As brazen fog shrouds mind, heightening my grief, poking fun
Defyingly I step out in glinting rays of the dawning golden sun.
Refusing to surrender when my tears dominate indignation
Joy I find on the vibrant horizon, blazing sunset’s ruby elation.
Verdant paradise appeals to pleas, adorning my shamrock hills
Appeasing cry of stygian echoes storming from mountains of ills.
If night reigns moonless and nightmares soon rage my dreams
Comfort I find within soothing zeal of spring’s giggling streams.
While strife of life endures in raging summers of unending heat
Readily I seek blue oceans, surfing rhythmic tides’ buoyant beat.
As laments of the world drown humanity in hapless deep dive
Strength of nobility rises, helping weakened hands to survive.
When the rancor of disillusionment exudes ambivalent sigh
Autumn’s scarlet imprints eagerly vie, healing souls in russet dye.
As hindrance of the ordinary distresses progress of mankind
Delighted I am to see rationality unite, to defeat the unrefined.
When sullen is my heart aching in the anguish of ashen skies
Solace I derive from serene vibes gleaming your tranquil eyes.
At times in my life, I encounter the black-holes of opaque space
Yet, the light of day gets through in sanctuary of your embrace.

Statuette she is in deep thought.
A monument of strength gathered from anguish and heartache.
She sighs as she murmurs what distresses.
As tears flow freely, her heart is exposed.
He is aloof watching her.
He deciphers the cold world that milieus.
He will not encroach.
The streetlights effervescently disclosed her observer.
A sensitive core possesses her inner being.
Her soul is shown so easily.
She continues to hear hysteria even when it has stopped.
Her footsteps are on a lethargic path.
The clock on wall ticks.
She is exhausted from the hits of people that tell her the truth.
Her life is a mess.
Whispers are heard from yesteryear.
She reminisces.
Her life was once of edict and control.
Nevertheless, today she is of discourse to address all the wrong done.
Ascertain, an atmosphere exist as her depth breathes.

The salt water
baubles washes
gently
upon the jetty sent
from lands distant.
Pushed by a hovering
yellow moon,
sometimes built into
thunderous waves
of hurricanes.
Change comes rapidly
and dangerously
as the sea meets
yesterday coming
back.
It speaks to me and
it does say,
I give no quarter
and furthermore
I ask
for none.
As I stare outward
at the placid waters
I feel heaviness
deep inside my
chest.
The sea has become
humanity to me,
With its powerful
and hushed rage,
not seen before.
Heretofore I have
been persuaded
by wanderlust to
skim the surface,
to walk on by time
without end,
miss nothing that
may be something.
I linger here.
The moon is playing
peek-a-boo,
reflection on the
water seems sad.
Stories are to be
told, perchance
to a much lesser
degree of now.
But
not yet.
Ink-black dark, I
cannot see;
even Luna appears
quite uneasy.
The peaceful lapping
of water
distresses me; I
don't know why.
Devouring soul?
So tranquil you
could hear a
tear drop, or a
salamander fart.
My nose detects an
exotic odor
Arabian sand carried
by wind.
Wind
words.
I squat on the rock
jetty,
look for ghosts;
probe my own.
My intimate séance
annoys
what I have kept
concealed..
I see what I see.
The serene sea is a
patient anomaly,
so serene I fear
there are things
unsaid.
The night bitter
black when moon
hides,
I sense an
oppressing evil
attributed
to dreams.

Jesus did teach us to turn the other cheek,
But never suggested we ought to be weak
In those instances of obvious wrongdoing
He sent the moneychangers gelt strewing,
And he called out the miserable hypocrite
In the strongest of language, as he saw fit.
Keeping the peace is good, I certainly agree,
But not at the expense of a bully’s spree,
Who goes about inflicting pain unchecked,
Comes the time when they must be decked.
For bullying indicates feelings of superiority
While it actually cloaks an inner inferiority.
We need to show bullies they’re not “all that,”
Sometimes it calls for knocking off their hat.
Letting them know we will be calling their bluff
When we are fed up with their hateful stuff,
Not allowing them to feign self-righteousness
As they hurtfully nose into another’s business.
It is always preferable to be meek and mild
But not when an adult acts like a spoiled child
Taking pleasure in causing others’ distresses
Probably struggling with their own sad messes
And acting like their way is the only way
While refusing to allow their victims a say!

Key Verse – Isaiah 49:8 Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages.

"At Times I Wonder"
By M. Taha Effendi
(Nazam)
At times I wonder what life would have been worth
Spent cloaked in soft shades of your sable tresses
If ill-fated darkness that shrouds my wrecked hearth
Was slayed by vigorous radiance of your eyes' recesses
Oblivious to earthly callings would it be so unfair
If I remained in your mesmerisms so eternally engrossed
Your heavenly allure my parched eyes would ensnare
On the fabrics of your existence my love I embossed
When plagued by the bitterness of life's onerous race
I would drink the glacé elixir upon your crimson lips
Bury my distresses within the calm of your embrace
Build my sanctuary in the shade of its eclipse
Sigh! This traitorous heart pounds even in such dismal state
I breathe with no hope of mirth nor a word of protest
My vacant eyes resigned to this inescapable fate
I stand unwilling to rebuild my plundered nest
Clasped perforce to my bosom the agonies my love bequeath
I heave my wounds through accursed corridors that adorn
Deathly shadows that loom, daunting horrors that wreathe
Where every step garlands me with camouflaged thorns
With not a course in sight, neither a goal nor any thrill
I trudge with bare feet across the scorching earths
Dreading the inevitable plunge from edge of sanity and still
At times I wonder what life would have been worth

An applaud in negative
In writing or voluble,
Appreciate one must
To further spring up,
A poetic grand slam !
Sarcastic comments
Take digs at you,
Aggressive remarks
The missiles,
To drop you dead !
Throwing a frisbee
Beyond reproach,
Reprimand,
Rebellion,
Give or do battle !
A censure,
Although Depreciates ,
Distresses and Disheartens,
Repel depression,
Essentiates introspection !
Be factualistic,
Don't divagate,
Be dianoetic,
Argue and analyse,
Put on a thinking cap !

Chronic Pain – The Beginning
You snuck into my life in the 1998th of May,
Everything about me wishes that you’d go away,
My whole being longs to feel good strong and well,
But for the last 18 years each day has nothing new to tell,
Chronic pain I hate you, chronic pain I hate you…
My story is I used to be athletic but that changed for me,
Playing sports of every kind enjoying being wild and free,
Your gifts to me were all new forms of aches, pains and fretting,
The simplest things became so hard to do plus deeply upsetting,
Chronic pain my rage, chronic pain my rage…
People see us walk and talk and think deep down this guy is fine,
They do not see the inward battle that is stealing all that was mine,
The real me is gone and he is not coming back for he has died,
Oh one truth is my heart is breaking and I just want to run and hide,
Chronic pain the robber, chronic pain the robber…
Those who have been fighting long now just put on a pleasant face,
Family, friends no longer stop by or care thinking we are a disgrace,
We simply do whatever our bodies will allow us to do each day,
Telling fibs to those who happen to ask us how are you anyway,
Chronic pain my enemy, chronic pain my enemy…
What will you do to me tomorrow trust me when I say I can wait,
Comfort sanity good things to think about to get me through this date,
God give me a silver bullet please restore me to my former self,
I’m tired of sitting on the sidelines watching my life from on a shelf,
Chronic pain please be gone, chronic pain please be gone…

Can you imagine how faithful Job was?
He didn’t know why he was tested, because
He was totally ignorant of Satan’s insistence.
This manslayer could harm him even at a distance.
This rebellious angel wanted to believe,
That if he robbed Job, God he would leave.
Then, as he kept faithful even though all was gone,
The devil stole his health, to see if he’d go on.
As if that weren’t enough, ---what insult!
His so-called friends said he was at fault.
In all his distresses, Job did not give up.
His integrity was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.
After a time, for his friends he implored,
Then God gave him more than he had before.
Today, Satan’s tactics still haven’t changed,
Hence in God’s love, we strive to remain.
Just a little while longer and our Savior will judge,
Removing the haughty and evil from us.
The meek will then take possession of the earth
And blessings will abound forever more.

I want to make a garden
full of roses
black, white, and pink....
Bees are invited to suck the honey
and to taste
Butterflies are invited to enjoy the colors
and the smell....
Men are invited to enjoy the glory and glamour
of roses in nature....
Have you ever visited a garden
full of roses
Have you ever enjoyed
their colors and smell....
Roses can make you fall in love
They can remove all the distresses of your mind....

When life is miserable and bad
When circumstances make you sad
When one after another problems abound
Like a phoenix you raise
from the ashes of agony
and smile in utter faith
When physical pain distresses
When you lack strength to live
When medicines fail to cure
Like a phoenix you raise
from the ashes of pain
ignoring it, carry on with life
When faced with hard to resolve problems
When mind is perplexed for want of solution
When you feel struck up from all sides
Like a phoenix you raise
from ashes of contemplation
leave your worries to God, be calm
Like a phoenix you raise
Your towering personality
Amidst worldly chaos
Resolve to be happy, calm, unperturbed
Inspire others, achieve peace
Never give up, never die
Like a phoenix raise again and again
More resolute, more strong
Show the world nothing can kill
your ambitions, your happiness, your calmness
Life is a saga of dualities
Along with happiness, sadness abounds
We endure it from birth till death
After death like phoenix we raise from ashes
Take another birth and suffer unabated
Ask yourself how to end it all
Try for salvation, to see your soul
Then like a phoenix you raise from ashes
Leave mortal world, become one with God
End all your problems, attain infinite bliss
Like a phoenix you raise!

Mother, you are God’s good and great gift to me indeed
Opening and offering to my personhood … realities’ essence which I need
Teaching and training me well through your word and deed
Hoisting up my mind with truth; hedging my heart with love, devoid of greed
Enabling and empowering me by your motherhood roles along Scripture-creed
Raising and rearing up my spirituality to grow in the faith from the Gospel seed!
Dear Mother*, I praise the Lord for you and your grace-anchored sacrifices
Expert are you in exposing me to God’s wonders by your awesome experiences
Ardent truly in prodding me to do my best against mediocrity-forces
Radiant always in cheering me up midst frustration distresses
Earnest constantly in admonishing me while enclosing me with prayer embraces
Steadfast in your devotion to God as seen in your worship’s praises!
Thank you, so much, Mom; I love you. Your presence---my heart surely misses.
* Proverbs 31:28-31 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Autumn sneaks early into September
With cloudy days and cooler temp,
A feeling of fall in the morning air
Arthritis is back, causing me to limp.
Thank goodness for dear ol’ Ben Gay
With his sweet smell of peppermint,
He helps me make it through the day
By applying his soothing, minty scent.
The pain is real, the ache depresses
With stiffness that won’t go away,
We all have those minor distresses
Unfortunately, Arthritis plans to stay!

Steadfast in the faith you should be constantly
Invest well in God’s kingdom-business faithfully
Gird yourself for the Lord’s soon coming earnestly
Now and onward, live for Him victoriously!
Occurrences as signs of times* are sure warnings
Falsehood attacks; thus, discern real meanings…
Tribulations’ distresses are sad happenings
Hardships’ trials must be cause for trust-refinings
Expect wars to triumph only by Christ’s winnings!
To prepare; be ready always should be your goal
Ignorance, you must vanquish; fight fears of your soul
Mount upward; ascend toward fruitful service-pole
Entrust your life to God Who knows your best and whole
Seek to help; fulfill your blessed steward**-role!
*Matthew 16:3 ...O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
**1Peter 4:10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
