Life's Complaints Department

Life's Complaints Department

 Take it out on me.
 That’s what I’m here for.
 Make me work for it.
 Make me feel it.
 Your relationship is dead.
I want you to spit bile.
 You hate your kids.
Let your tongue be your weapon.
 The mortgage payment is overdue.
 Show me that desperation.
 You got some bad news.
Prove to me your diamond hard anger.
 You’re having car problems.
I want to see blood rush to your head.
I am the concrete wall that absorbs the wreckage of your life.
 I am your temporary enemy.
 I am a sponge with a face.
I calmly roast in my own public hell.
Barely existing in my own numb regret.
Forsaken by my own fragile identity.
The sweat soaks through my shirt.
 An accidental pain junky.
 Ready for another fix.

Dry Goods Store '62

The scent of linen,
Slacks, creams, leather. Mellow tunes.
Soft muted bustle.

We move promptly to our quest.
In the purse, Mom’s hard won cash.
 ~
The shoe department...
Always with my size and style.
The well-groomed salesman,

His warm charm sooths my unease
At the cold chrome size device.
  ~
Brylcreem, tweed, Old Spice.
Soft caring hands hold my feet.
New shoes. Perfect fit.

	And now, such memories past
Bring warm solace to my years.

Department Meeting

I called a department meeting this morning.
I said to everyone,
"I want to run the race".
But lungs said, "You cant be serious"!
So I decided to swim the river.
But legs said, "No way mister, not today"!
I suggested to bike the mountain trail.
Knees just laughed.
"There's no reason we cant take up boxing", I said.
Shoulders cried, "don't ask us",
"To lift those gloves".
I bent down to tie my shoe,
Feet said, "we told you to invest in Velcro"
I wanted a fling with Mama.
But body had fallen asleep.
Brain spoke up and said,
"What's wrong with you guys"?
"Quit being so lazy"!
Everyone was tired and irritated.
Then Heart quietly said,
"If we all cant get along"
"I'm leaving"

Meeting adjourned.

Premium Member The Department Meeting

As we did the month preceding
This the next department meeting
Time and time without a reason
To be present or to listen

For there’s nothing on the floor
Beneath us different than before
It was the last time that we met
As everybody knows and yet

Again we sit around the table
Top our seats but still unable
To understand why we should read
Another memo from the Dean

Of students who have never met ‘em
Or her or maybe better, them
For whom the Chair is working under
Standing in the room, we wonder

How’d it ever get to this
Friday morning’s foolishness
Of faculty who should know better
Than to debate what doesn’t matter

That they’ll only misconstrue
The points they’re missing when they do
Interrupt each other speaking
Words better spent in classrooms teaching

Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife

October,

Time when jellyfish
Wash ashore
Cover beaches in
Rotted goo.

Count the numbers
In blue ballpoint
Mark the map
in red.

Right, left
Booted squelch
Sand and guts
Dropped the clipboard.

Running ink,
Sticky slime
Wunderbar wrapper
Clings to the page.

Telephone the department
Need another day
To get the numbers
Info lost in kidney juice.

“Got to do it now”
Before gulls,
Tide comes in, already
harmonica squawks echo.

Premium Member Billing Department

I want to reach
through the phone
And choke you

Though I know
I cannot

You talk to me
Like I'm old
And senile

Because of my age
You say I must
Not remember

I must be mistaken
 I must have sent
something back
And forgot

Because I'm being
charged for something
I say I do not have

It's like talking
to the wall
when I'm talking
To someone like you

You people think
You are God
But I know you are not!

Premium Member Abolishing The Department Of Education

A human being needs to be educated
In order to make the world a better place
An uneducated politician or bully is a serious menace
To our vulnerable society. Ignorance is deeply rooted
In racism, violence, greed, crimes, frauds, lies and deceits
Banning or ending the department of Education
Will cause irreparable harms to the Nation
Most convicted criminals have no advance degrees
Most recidivists and racists behave like animals on the streets
Like wild tigers in the jungles, like sneaky foxes in the prairies
Most pathological liars are hardened criminals
A good or high-quality education can turn devils into angels
Choosing educated leaders are indeed paramount
Well-educated politicians are smart and benevolent
A brain needs the seeds of instruction and education
A tactless or illiterate mind can easily desolate a great Nation.

Premium Member The Department Murdered His Poetry

He’s being chased by The Department,
Now his livelihoods at stake.
What was once a beautiful, restful sleep,
Has become a twitching wake.

It started when he refused to paint a face,
And that was the end, or so he thought.
But then the rage became a point,
And he was standing upright in court.

He was accused, assumed of all the guilt,
He was set upon by the law,
And even when the liar confessed,
He had to fight some innocent war.

Still, The Department waited 15 months,
Before they put him back without a fight,
And now they want to remove him again,
Because they dislike poetic write.

The Department have assumed his guilt,
It never mattered how absurd the lie.
The Department’s made him feel less than human,
I think the Department wants him to die.

sirens pierce the snowy air
demanding - a sudden call to action
vehicles fill the town hall lot
uniforms cover regular clothes
teams converge...
fire truck emerges and
leaves with rapidly assembled crew…

Premium Member Department Store Santa

I knew a fellow who played Santa Claus
He hated department stores just because
Kids were insightful, but
Sometimes a bit spiteful
And his snow white beard was made out of gauze.

God Does Have a Department Store

God Does Have a Department Store

In heaven, God has a department store
Are sure you will wish were many more
And are certainly glad that you did find
After world like ours you had left behind.

All things up there they each perfectly fit
And also something else I must admit
Everything we know God always knows
For all His children has incredible clothes.

So I was starting to and can clearly see
There is no difference between you and me
When you will read Bible cover to cover
God's love there continually will discover.

One day to us God's Son He did send
Actually what He meant was to amend
Our Constitution with a perfect solution
Pray to Him to remove all the confusion.

Add God's love to each home and amenity
Amount of serenity will find is infinity
Instead of living where we all do dread
World will be full of God's love instead.

Deck Department Sonnet

Heemstra and Salazar cleaning the decks
Working in Deck Department was the best
The work was constant for decent pay checks
Do I miss all that the answer is yes
I can still remember the ship and crew
Now I’m older with some pounds and gray hair
With plenty of memories but no brew
Who am I to say this life wasn’t fair
Because I had fun and great memories
Now I’m reading this sonnet at this place
Few think poetry is for fairies
I am reading this now without disgrace
I may have done short time in navy
It wasn’t easy nor was it gravy

The Street Department and the Potholes

The Street Department and the Potholes

By Elton Camp

Big potholes developed in paving all over the city
The condition of the streets had become such a pity

Citizens said it was knocking tires out of alignment
The city officials said no money for their assignment

“We would gladly fix the potholes if only we could.
But city taxes just aren’t coming in as they should.”

Yet the city’s money always seemed able to go as far
As to buy the mayor yet another luxurious new car

And even though they claimed bad economic days
There were funds for employees’ five percent raise

Whenever a councilman’s brother needed a job,
There was always enough money to pay that slob

So from the enraged public came an angry shout
The next election, they then threw the bums out

In his closet Mort had a skeleton
  Draped o'er an undelivered Peleton
    A bag of bones himself
    Mort was a Christmas elf
Dined on doughnut holes atop gelatin
