Premium Member My Impromptu Picnic

[Written during a twelve hour power cut caused by
Storms this past winter]

The storm that arrived in the depth of the night
Got even worse with the new morning’s light
Although I presumed that they’d already know
I contacted the electricity co

I asked if they knew the whole town had gone dark
Are you fixing it or just having a lark
I think that I upset the man on the phone
He told me to wear a coat inside my home

Just listen to me, I said to the geezer
I think you should know I’ve got a dead freezer
Without any leccy it’s gonna defrost
And all of its contents are gonna be lost

We’re trying to sort it all out said the man
But I would suggest that you eat what you can
So I checked the freezer to sort out my tea
My cooker is gas which is lucky for me

I made my selection from my warming freezer
Fish fingers and chips… and ice cream and pizza
Sausages, drumsticks, a tasty rib-eye
Two rocket lollies, a steak and ale pie
Some prawns that I think have defrosted before
(I’m still gonna eat them because I’m not sure)
Some old sausage rolls from Christmas last year
A fisherman’s pie I’d forgotten was here
Another small pizza with awful fake cheese
An out of date bag full of freezer burned peas
Four quarter pounders and thinly sliced beans

I think I might loosen the belt of my jeans

The world in 100 years ... Oh, perish the thought

Former President, Ronald Dump, who was cryogenically frozen following his assassination after winning the ‘No Bull’ Peace Prize in December 2018, has been successfully defrosted.

Ronald Dump recently defeated his son, former President Barrrrron Van Dump, in the lunar by-election. President Dump will be taking up his forty year term at his office-in-the-round penthouse suite at ‘Lunar-Tic Towers’. This magnificent golden palace-like structure is situated on the fringes of the 29th bunker on the dark side of the moon. Naturally, it is a member’s only golf club and entry is strictly by special invitation only. It will be staffed by scantily costumed Honey-Bunny girls and models who the Dump handpicks. They will attend to every need and whim of his guests, unless he requires their expertise "handling."

President Dump will be supported by his android wife, Argenta, (humanoid model number 3060 with real hair and life-like body parts) who superseded the old model 'Milionairluva', who sadly could not be revived due to silicon and botox poisoning which ran rampantly throughout her Barbie doll body

The Lunar-Tic Towers will be totally off limits to the paparazzi so there can be no photographs taken of the Irn Bru brewing facility of his favourite drink which was banned in Scotland. He seeks to insure that no "fake news" stories are leaked by the press.

In his bid to tackle rising unemployment, currently standing at 99.6%, Dump will be advised by his new best friend and strategist, Kym Dung Hung Lo. This humanitarian almost obliterated the human race by detonating a nuclear warhead at the Dung Hung Lo Toy Factory which was caused when Dung Hung Lo threw his dolly out of the pram. So impressed by such a move, Dump hired him and invited Dung Hung Lo to be his number 2 to succeed him.

May God bless the earth, what little is left of her .. she needs all the help she can get with these two lunar tics in charge

Phoenix Defrosted

Given by the Sun God the good of the moon and some lucky stars
he sits full of fortune love and still in miraculous amazement under
the bright rays of southern soil soaking unbelievable kindness and
mutual compassion granted by soul searching and Higher Power

Love had been made before from a different fabric and the colours had
quietly faded to screaming silence frozen into glaciers’ clefts of darkness
Chances lead the way and permafrost was not forever when the mask
came off with all its distortions mangled ice melting into novel beginnings

It took him searching of feeling thought desire and some meeting of minds
revisiting gently rigorously what had appeared to be the only prospect
one of soundless demise and shattering unfeasible stagnant arrest in the
prison of domination wilted marred marriage depression and torment

Agony struck and it however ignited a passion unknown a mating and union
conjoined at hips and above for always and in all ways a heartfelt dance with
the Universe high and below inside and within a mango grooved delta of
Venus hot soothing lava engulfing new lovers’ poetic trees in poetry’s motion

Considering failure in cause and success in effect of landslides misfortune
bad luck and bad choices he is fortuitously graced now to thank destiny
constellation of karma kismet pure hard worked for chances where one thing
leads to another when the ashes are reshuffled and second fire is sublime

Premium Member Barn Swallows

Spring tramples the detachment of cold
it heals a winter's damaged heart
Buds peddle new beauty as trees poke
          roots from defrosted ground

Barn swallows swoop in the cool air
          of sparse meadows
To rest, to breed in man made roofs
A barn's hideaway nooks, soothing
          like a Sinatra tune
Birds of blue plummage
          tail feather streamers, deeply forked
          under breasts of white streaks
          like jet smoke flashes

Witt, witt sounds, cheerful chirps
          that fill dark rafters
that spice a world pushing itself to spring
Hot specks of flutter
Unmuted yearning
Chirps, feather light, a bounce of canoodling
Bits of song that come and go
like lovers kissing in the hay below

Trees Across Seasons

Forest trees are defrosted
by rains -
they look as though they
were frozen through time,
only to wait for spring
to boast their greenness.

As the hands of time move,
the trees protect birds,
chipmunks, and lovers
from the burning sun.

Later,
with no shade to give,
and no burning sun,
the trees begin to shed
their leaves,
creating a natural carpet
all around them.

Naked and wary,
they wait for winter to mummify them....

Yo Yo

As I wake to the
sounds of Robins in
the Thicket
I lift myself out of
bed, morning coffee
the ticket.
Breakfast defrosted
in microwave, toast?
a slice,
Shower and head off
to work, weather so
nice.
On the bus so many
frowns, Mondays have
no joy,
This kid gets on
Yo-Yo in hand, this
so old toy.
He beams at me ,
smile so happy and
bright,
" Look at what my
Gramps gave me last
night!"
I smile back at him
and say
"Great..Splendid."
He attempts to do a
roll and return, so
horrid.
Let me show you I
said, took the
string and rolled,
My youth came
flooding back in
waves, I tooled.
Walk the dog,
Sleeper, Breakaway,
all in the bag,
Then Elevator ,
Spaghetti and
Jamaican Flag.
Handed The toy back
and got off, at my
place
Heard a Noise turned
to see smiles on
each face.
Bravo, hurrah, the
screams, breaking
into applause.
I Bowed and bounced
off to work..
smiles..I the cause.

Preterition

She Walked By

She walked through the crowd,
softly offered the urchin shelter and food.
He scoffed at her penury being and ran away.

She walked through the crowd,
saw the urchin and quietly walked by.....

She walked through the crowd,
a smiling figure creeped closer whose preternatural satanic light
lit in her charred soul and burnt accounts.

She walked through the crowd,
iceberg thoughts of the worthless defrosted as she walked by.....

She walked through the crowd,
pampering her cherub whose hand she held tight.
Old memories were getting dimmer when one in a crowd waved at her.

She and her love, hand in hand, happily walked by in a crowd.

Premium Member Seventy Two Seconds

[The primary cause of the 1986 space shuttle disaster was an O-ring of a design that hadn’t been tested below fifty degrees. But hey... it’s Florida, right?
That fateful night before the launch, the temperature went through the floor. That O-ring became brittle, leading to its subsequent failure. Perversely, when the O-ring first failed the solid fuel blocked the now open Joint. Alas a strong side wind caused the fuel to shift allowing the leak which led to the disaster that followed.
NASA managers had been advised in 1977 about the possibility of calamitous flaws developing in the O-rings at low temperature, but little was done.

On the morning of the launch NASA managers were advised of extremely low temperatures in the night preceding the launch. Launch was delayed by two hours to allow ice to melt but, even at launch, temperatures were below the
O-ring’s tested range. The launch was allowed to progress in spite of these warnings.]

Set for its tenth foray up into space
Challenger writ upon stark carapace

For every contingency, no expense thrifty
And sometimes the mercury drops below fifty

Brittle components barely discussed
But what dragged the mercury into the dust

Seven the number of highly trained crew
Count seventy two, then the whole thing blew

A Florida chill and an Atlantic gust
Precipitation; ash, fire and dust

Devilish snowflakes that flutter and dance
Through somebody’s devil-may-care negligence

Seek it and tag it and bag it all up
The stuff that came down from what had gone up

Forensic inspections shall raise questions that
Forensic Inspectors call smelling a rat

Too cold the night for an untested o-ring
Not really news when people are knowing

A spacecraft that’s barely defrosted of ice
Just send her up, Lads, that’ll be nice

Premium Member Downside of Spring

On the frigid wings of the northern breeze
waned winter with frayed feathers flies away,
clears the mist from shining sky out of freeze,
song of birds brings life in ambiance grey.

On silken leaves’ cradle blooming buds glow,
with cascade of color petals unfold,
zephyr ripples fragrance in fervent flow,
but spring also has its downside untold.

Insects crawl out after hibernation,
stinging bees build hives in unwanted place,
allergens spread as season’s creation,
from defrosted ground dust fills warm air space.

Though compared to winter it is tender,
spring is not all encompassing splendor.

Visions of Truth

though seasons come and go
like defrosted ice and snow

i stay blinded by the sun
because my head is never hung

no wasted water no salted tears
not a wasted heart nor wasted years

the sculpture is already there all we have
to do is chip away at the unwanted pieces

and with every chip of a broken mold
a vision of the truth increases

Premium Member The World's Greatest Chef

I don my towerin' torque at a jaunty angle when I prepare my cuisine!
Eat yer heart out, Gordon Ramsey; of all the world's chefs I'm the dean!
I can whip up a delectable repast in a trice from a can of pickled spam!
I've appointed myself the world's greatest chef - that I am, that I am!

Ain't nothin' better'n my ravioli heated from a can of Chef-Boy-Ardee,
Or a tasty frozen pie or cake defrosted in my microwave from Sara Lee!
Why, I can heat up a canned ham quicker'n Emeril Lagasse can utter "bam"!
I'll say it agin, I'm the world's greatest chef - that I am, that I am!

Try my tasty Eggo waffles or pancakes that I forge in my toaster,
Or the magnificent stews that I concoct from Dinty Moore in my roaster!
People rave about my sandwiches of Skippy peanut butter and Smucker's jam!
Are you convinced I'm the world's greatest chef? I think I am, I think I am!

I learned the art of grillin' hot dogs at French culinary ecole Le Cordon Bleu,
And it was there I cultivated my skill fer broilin' burgers on the barbecue!
I invite you to try a bowl of my delicious Campbell's New England clam!
I'll repeat it agin, I'm the world's greatest chef (or at least I think I am)!

Thoughtless Day

Thoughtless Day

I was looking out of the window
The view was a road and an opposite wall
And I decided to think of nothing
Emptying my brain for all the rubbish and
Lies I had read today and let it sink into the silt
Of the forgotten yet is silt that one day can be
made of mud and do a lasting service
for mankind, and since the settlers keep bulldozing
Palestinian dwellings, no, no I will not think of
This and why should I since I`m not thinking
Like the rest of the world.

Man, it is difficult not to think about love and death
And all the things in between so I look at the white wall
It is five years it was painted, but it still looks new.
No, this is too hard I will go and make a coffee eat
A biscuit and think the freezer need to be defrosted

Are icicles on the roof
In a deep freezer
That has not been defrosted
For an awfully long time

Premium Member Life's Winter Frame

Frozen air and frost gripping the ground
within the mystique mask of twilight,
bring together in seamless proximity
the living and the dead.

They meet at the edge of time,
the identities dissolve in seizing silence
of the graveyard in wasteland reclaimed,
all enclosed within life’s winter frame.

Defoliated trees wrapped in dismal grief,
stand static as shadowless sentinels,
lest those lying beneath the cold stones
fly away with the northern wind.

The lonesome bouquet laced with love
lays the frozen fragrance of remembrance,
enticing the defrosted soul to rise someday,
hold the living in warm embrace.

Premium Member Get Out of My Way

Get out of my way!
I’m in my car and I’ve got to be first all the way.
I’ve got to prove something about myself.
Number one me all the time, has to be me, no one else.

Get out of my way!
It’s says 37.5 hours on my contract but I’ll give them an extra ten all the way.
I’ve got to prove something to the man.
Laugh at unfunny jokes and talk football, no problem.

Get out of my way!
Be the man in the team! In the clique, must be neat to be me.
Miss my kids dance competition for bevvies with the office lads.
Flirt with young women while she’s at home cooking my tea.
I wear the trousers in my house, yeah, that’s right, that’s me!

Get out of my way!
Calm down old timer. New blood’s here and here to stay.
See how they all laugh at his jokes now.
Wow, I had hair like that, I did… wow.
All the office girls flirt with the young guy with his taught, unblemished skin. Square jaw, bright eyes, full smile, great hair, youth flair, damn that enigmatic thing!
I’m invisible to their smiles with my fading hair, hopeful glare and saggy skin!

Can I get past please?
I gave this place my everything.
I sacrificed time with my wife and my kids.
I was cool but now I’m defrosted it seems.
Remember when we did that guys, in that pub, thar was me?
Yeah but that’s not hip now old timer, just your sad history!

Get out of my way.
You promised to do the lawn today. I’ll fix that gate you did say!
The grandkids are coming tonight for the next three days.
But, I told the lads I’d meet them for a few bevvies after work later today.
You don’t work any more, just make sure you fix the gate, do the lawn and get your grandkids some pop and ice cream later today and for goodness sake please just get out of my way.
