Premium Member Caged Darkness

I'm laced
in sherbet flakes,
swirling in aching wind~
as the sun sails amidst somber
silence

stars scatter secrets
in silver across moonlit
skies that shimmer hope..
echoing as diamond-dreams
upon hushed sighs of sorrow.

listen to my heartbeat drifting through caged darkness~time unravels truth…

Caged Silence

Caged Silence

A whispered voice
on a gentle breeze
hushed by the ripple
of rustling leaves,
goes unheard.

The silent spinning
of a mournful tale
inked on a page
soon grows pale,
goes unread.

Desires of hearts
straining the seams
stay tucked away
to cavort in dreams,
go unspoken.

Premium Member Honeysuckle Hope

out my glass window
sways the silenced sunflower
facing herbs of gold
and silver-winged butterflies
glazed in honeysuckle hope

But in this darkness
I knit lyrical tankas;
Ink that unchains gate
to glistening moon gardens
where I'll flee from heartless ghosts

So if tomorrow
there's no poetry or prose
remember these words
as these are suppressed daydreams
of a caged blue nightingale

Caged Tiger

Amid the chaos
Amid the storm

The dark clouds were adorned
By a dome of seven shades

And a silence prevailed
A stillness was proclaimed

The leaves, the petals stood amazed
While the birds flew in haste

As the sun shone on the cage
Where a tiger was in rage

Roaring, and Sighing while still in chains
Long forgotten was the valley and these lands

A storm arose in the flowing cascade
Making the dried leaves red by blood from a crusade

To dig up the key from the swamp
In hope that a devine hand will descend to help

And the chains will be broken
And the tiger will soon be running in the wild

Ferocious... notorious... with an incredible zeal
On the cliffs, in the meadows and deep in the woods

Why the Caged Bird Ever Sings

He must have done some horrid thing,
so vile I bet and frightening
because it's hard to fathom why
we shut him in to never fly,
or feel the wind against his wings,
or why the caged bird ever sings!

A sight to see at any age;
this captive beast inside a cage!

Perhaps we think by some degree
he's better off alone than free.
Or if, by chance, we think humane
that he should never feel the rain,
but life of pain and one of scars
behind the cruelty of bars!

Amusement rests not on a stage,
but in some tiny, prison cage!

What if our human lives were one
that never felt the summer sun,
or saw the moon, or chased a breeze,
or fell in love, or glanced the seas?
We take for granted little things
like why the caged bird ever sings!

A sight to see at any age;
this captive beast inside a cage!

Caged

I looked at the world through
my silver gray bars.
Sad and alone
the only thing I could do was
reach out and feel the
wind on my fingers.
Trapped in by the sadness,
guilt, and pain i felt.
I was held back by
the fear and unknown
thoughts of the world
i could never enter.
But when i reached out for help no one
would ever take my hand.
I became a scared caged in
bird that learned not to trust.
That loneliness was my only friend i learned to
lock up my heart never
to be hurt again.
But one day you came
and reached in and asked for my hand.
You unlocked the cage I set in i held
tightly to your hand as you led me into
the world that was unknown the
world I thought I would never enter.
You wiped away the tears as they fell
and your kindness blew away my fear and sadness.
I entered the world that
I could only see through my
silver bars
As I hold your hand i take
my first steps in to a new
beginning.

Caged By Love

Come, my love, let's unfetter and glide high,
Your hues leave me breathless, to feel your breath I long;
My dreamy dotted wings, with you, yearns to fly,
And to chirrup in tune with your lilting love song.

Your hues leave me breathless, to feel your breath I long,
As I creep up on you and kiss you sweetheart;
And to chirrup in tune with your lilting love song,
I crave to be caged forever in your heart.

As I creep up on you and kiss you sweetheart,
My dreamy dotted wings, with you, yearns to fly;
I crave to be caged forever in your heart,
Come, my love, let's unfetter and glide high.

Premium Member Caged Warbler

Lonesome heart beats like a caged warbler without a morning song,
pining to be free, before cherry blossoms float away with breeze.
Hope arrives as a Lovebird opens lock for him to spread wings.

Caged By Love

I am unstrung pearls,
   rolling about in the dark

that dying ember
   that once was a glowing spark

a flower petal, fallen
   lying withered on the ground

the wind, now hushed
   too diminished to blow around

a drop of cold wax
   where once a warm candle burned

a heart, sadly imprisoned
   caged by a love that was spurned

a whisper, never spoken
   silenced by promises now broken

a grain of sand stuck in time
   held captive inside an hourglass

a thousand tears wept
   while I wait for heartache to pass

Caged Love

Cages were not built for trying to hold onto a love you fear to lose

No matter how pretty they maybe covered gold and decorated leaves

Shining bright in filigree from within

Nobody wants to be locked up in a cage

So set them free and watch them fly again

And you will marvel at their beauty and their grace

And wherever they go and whatever they do

They'll come back to you

Because you allowed them to be free

Set aside your own insecurities

You let them explore everything that's out there

Let them open new doors they've never been through before

And if you told them they are are wanted and always welcomed

Right back here at home

They will always return

Because you gave them what you yearned

Their freedom from the cage.

Premium Member A Caged Bird

Confined within the rusty iron bars to hop and trip
Wishing to fly aloft into Heaven's seamless starry heights
A bird beats her wings in vain but trilling in sweet sad notes!

The Caged Bird's Song

I know why the caged bird sings
For I have felt its pain
Its wings are clipped, its heart in strings
Yet it sings out in refrain

Amidst the darkness, it finds its voice
Its song a bittersweet melody
Its piercing notes reach up high
A call for freedom, for liberty

Oh, how it longs for the open sky
Where it can fly without resist
Where it can soar, spread its wings wide
And feel the wind upon its breast

But for now, it is trapped within
Its cage a symbol of its plight
Yet still it sings, with all its heart
A song of hope and of sheer might

For though it may be caged in
Its spirit can never be broken
And as it sings, it reminds us all
Of love, of strength, of words unspoken

So let us listen to the caged bird's song
And let it stir our souls within
For in its voice, we'll find the courage
To rise above our own cages, and begin.

Premium Member Some Birds Are Not Meant To Be Caged

"Some Birds Are Not Meant to be Caged"
               Stephen King
                  ~~~~~
Early this morning, I heard this
quote:
"Some birds are not meant to be
caged!"
I wept so hard I could not stop!
My life flashed before me like the
fast spinning hands on an out of
control clock.
From a brunette with braids at
seven years old till today~
I never liked rules or to do what
I was told!
Especially not here at Poetry Soup.
In contests, I feel like a prisoner
with a kindly warden about to hang
me by an opinionated, poetic rope.
I like to fly free across summertime
azure skies,
To choose my own trees, to go in
my chosen direction.
A poet knows when they deserve First
Place.
To let another decide otherwise,
is for me only, a poetic disgrace.
I honestly can no longer pour my
soul on paper, so openly.
That's something almost unholy
for me.
To then type "entered in Contest"
And have another tell me where
I  stand?
Not music to my ears, I need the
 "free to be me" band!
No can do, I dance to my inner
drummer.
My form, my subject! Not yours.
All the rest for me is just a mere
showcase bummer.
Free denizen of the sky,
The songbird is now in cage,
Flapping its tired wings in vain.
Yet the caged bird sings!
Our caged bird will sing no more
Though her songs will live on forever
Angel wings she now adorns
With our tears upon each feather
The freedom she sought
The love that she taught
The words that she strung together
Are treasures to keep
While in sorrow we weep
For a world that will never forget her
From the bodily cage
Her soul now flies free
And ascends to the heavens on high
The songs that she sung
She sang for everyone
With a dream that will never die
I will miss our sweet bird
But will remember her words
That she sang from inside the cage
As we hear them repeat
In verses sown sweet
When she was the star of the stage
