One Thing Remains

Life's been good
Sometimes sublime
I've never needed more
Every day's a rhyme
I have lots of friends
Yes, money and fame
Escaped life's sorrows
No regrets or shame
I've cared for orphans
And assisted the blind
Taught eager students
Stretched theirs minds
Traveled all the world
Wrote a few lovely songs
Fought abject poverty
Many evils and wrongs
There's lots of things
I've been blessed to do
But one thing remains
And that's loving you

~Lyric Man

Note: This is a short story about a successful songwriter who is reflecting on his blessed and productive life. In a sense he has it all or almost all. Only one thing alludes him.. and that's what he longs for most.. to love the girl of his dreams.

Angels - 12/28/21 This is a true story experienced by the poet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Angel in a Whirlwind
Storm of the decade descends upon the day
Torrents of howling rainfall flood the streets
Banshee winds whip trees, waves upon the bay
Gloomy clouds shadow skies – sunlight in retreat.
Faithful Wheaten, Snickers, too weak to stand
Brightest amber terrier eyes listless in the storm
The rainbow bridge calls to you – gentle command
My broken heart in gusts of windswept mourn.
Now the daylight leaves early – taking the light;
Winter’s hand lays heavy upon the sky;
My tears fall like raindrops dotting the night;
Comfort alludes me in the fading light.
Faithful childhood friend embraces my sorrow
Dinner invitation and shopping at the mall
“Come tonight - please don’t wait until tomorrow.”
Our old habits die hard – we hear the mall call.
Standing on a corner a lady with a Wheaten puppy
Not a hair out of place – not waterlogged or soggy
All felt calm around her – the chaos ceased -
The wind stopped howling in her chrysalis of peace.
Jumping up in greeting just like beloved Snickers
I said farewell with teary eyes in a rain soaked slicker
Pain vanished like a phantom – angelic smile released;
Gentleness of this grace put my heart at ease.
One last question posed “Where did you find your pup?”
Directed to a breeder – my hope rising up
One last puppy longing, waiting for a home
Littermates with new families – this one all alone.
The world stopped spinning on winter’s wings
Warm brown eyes, soft grey ears helped pain lose its sting
Cuddled in our arms softly sleeping in the night.
Theodore our new pup – name means gift of God and light.
Angel in a whirlwind, I never saw your wings
But I know you were God’s messenger like crocus for the spring
My heart filled with gratitude for your mission to this child
And I’ve been seeing angels ever since the storm.
Fun time and flight
A clock from Salvador Dali warped and draped in place
                      surreally oozing the minutes from birth to demise in a
landscape of our own making of how we narrate life and
             the story filled with passion love disappointment transition…
Paintings of words and brushed colours danced song
                        oiled voices splash meaning fly along our journey for
when bells toll time-pieces chime ‘Chronos’ floats in
                     remembrance anticipation flights of fancy and escape…
Strange and humorous those days past realigned by
                          the present one blink and the moment is gone while
the river flows around us never the same as time stands
                     still and ticks just the same cascades the rapids of life…
Sequential on one hand of the clock times counts and
                      alludes to one thing leading to other like a winged relic
of reasoned emotion with intuition significance left behind
               intervals measured and quantified like delusions of science…
Can ‘Kairos’ the indeterminate yet permanent quality
                       of en-lived stories and en-storied lives of narration and
lined context fly just the same when epiphanies last forever
                   when what matters most positions the other hand firmly…
Time journeys meanders along the path both forward and
                     backward remembering the future and changing the past
that is how both ‘Chronos’ and ‘Kairos’ move neck-breaking
             speed’s painful arrest when Dali’s meaning melts us together…
It seems funny how and when times fly or when we placidly reason that
                            our perspective is moving and not the clock after all
05th October 2016 flying past or is it?
Cancer
Hold back the hour.
Stop the tears from flowing.
Breathe again untainted air.
Take back my bones, my breasts,
and race forward to passion once more
Hold back the hour,
before the ravaging of every sinew
and fleeting glimpse of salvation, and
forced pity encroached upon my earth
Hold back the hour,
before tested strength
proves weakened failure
and commitment runs a ragged road
Before privacy alludes
and birds no longer sing for me,
or the pinch of reality is drugged
away before the fluttering of breath
Now bring back the hour
let the tears flow
I’m ready
A choir of rainfall on soft stones
Bookmarked by wistful nature
Sweet melancholy shelved for
Another day in bed with a book
Yet he opens not only his heart
But windows and soulful founts
Pitter patter from musty pages
Chorus of dew mellowed to words
The roof leaks his wallet is empty
As the mind gathers metaphors
A lonesome apostrophe beckons
Dangles caresses cuddles a stanza
The poet has forsaken a world
Of power greed stark domination
Alludes to breaking their mould
Lavender scent creeps into verse
Sensual meaning drops off fragrances
Lights a passionate fire becomes one
With a precious deluge in anticipation
Precipitates tender longing of harmony
In unconsciousness, where shadows prance,
An elusive dream, a furtive trance,
Weaves its tendrils through my mind,
Lingering with longing I cannot find.
Evasive visions, forever out of reach,
Dreams like tomorrows never breach
Their resolve to never come into being,
Never see daylight, but do lie-in within, unseeing.
For when you chase and lure a dream,
To become reality, it fades and loses its gleam.
The closer you get, the more it alludes you,
Like a shadow, its only stuck on to you, with glue.
So cherish your dream as an allusive desire,
An elusive enigma, a destiny, to which you can aspire.
His wings are most surely singed,
from fires of his many sins.
Yet, they wrap me in a gentleness,
That alludes to his protective prowess.
Beneath his nails, hard workin' dirt,
for angelic robes, a flannel shirt.
Denim jeans and scuffed work boots,
an inherent need to troubleshoot.
His baseball cap is worn and frayed,
but it helps his bent halo to stay,
perched upon his one devil horn,
that's been there, since the day he was born.
True, it's tarnished and still slips at times.
But, it would sure be a crime,
to lose that crooked little boy smile.
Even if just for a little while.
He has a "Don't mess with me"  attitude,
that speaks volumes of his fortitude.
He is always there, right by my side.
My love for him, is a mile wide.
I've entrusted him with my life.
So proud to claim that I'm his wife.
My husband is my sinful angel.
Here on earth, he keeps his vigil.
My Green Lady
Green, green, is my lady's face
If ever friends become common place
Should I converse with others too long
She hangs her head in selfish disgrace.
When another comes along
And she catches me glancing wrong
Her attention then becomes quite keen
With her grip becoming doubly strong!
Green, green, is my lady's sheen
And you may just consider it mean
That I would elate to see her changed
To that covetous shade of pea green.
You see, she's a wee bit strange
In fact I think she may be deranged
For, she purposely ruins all my moods
I just can't wait until we're estranged!
Green, green, and terribly prude
And a great cook if you like stale food
She's always asking, "Is she the one?"
To names my conversation alludes.
She seems to weigh a whole ton
And withdraws if I ever have fun
Then, should I ever come home at dawn
She makes me recall the things I've done.
Green, green, is that devil's spawn
Who always makes me feel withdrawn
And when she pressures me to excess
I close my eyes and wish she was gone.
Well, I really should confess
My lady is....."Lady Loneliness"
And only Father Time will attest
To her who lays my lady to rest.
Seven Years Rachel*, Translation of Pierre Emmanuel’s Sept ans Rachel by T. Wignesan
For seven years Rachel remains sealed
By the kiss she received from Jacob
For seven years she keeps her eyelashes lowered
Under the impact of their unique encounter.
When he saw her on that one occasion
He was reduced to tears,
So very much of her sweetness was revealed to him
The blue tint of the nocturnal sunset
Reminiscent of God.
There’s no love without nostalgia
When will I seize what has gotten hold of me ?
You’re as beautiful as the fleecy Rachel
When the immense army comes together.
You shine on up there like a moon-like pebble
At the bottom of a well.
You are unreachable further than the stars
An a priori hint of Him.
From the moment your gaze comes to rest on me
It lights up the fires of Bethel.*
I have seen God enthroned in your pupils
And all the exit paths in the world
Converge upon you.
The désert which has pursued me close upon the heels
Hardened roused till it reaches you
Until my return to the fold
That was a spiraling tearing apart of the fire
Hatched from beneath my entrails.
O ladder which consumes me O flame
The dwelling by whom my insides burn
You are the native home of the soul
You are the mother’s smile come to rest on the child
Yours is the infancy of God over this world
Virgin speech like God’s own gaze
The unruly smoothness of fire.
(from Jacob, O.C. t. II, p. 62)
*The poem alludes, draws and constructs itself on the imagery relating to the « legend » of the biblical Jacob’s dream and the ladder, recorded in Genesis, key symbols in the interpretations of Judeo-Christian and Islamic religious concepts and history.
Martian Conniosseur
MAVEN tastes the air
too thin to hold oceans' broth
wafted on Sol's winds.
Note: this is my entry for NASA's "Going To Mars" campaign.  I believe it deserves to win, because in 17 syllables it not only summarizes MAVEN's (Mars Atmospheric Volatile EvolutioN) mission, but also alludes to the meaning of its name as an expert or connoisseur (as though it were a master chef, lifting the lid on the desert planet to sample its boiled away oceans). To Calm My Soul
In these days, foretold as the last,
daunting memories from my past
echo in chambers of my mind.
Soon I will leave them all behind
and saunter through an open door,
leaving behind what is no more.
But restful peace alludes me now.
I wonder, with a furrowed brow,
what do I seek but cannot find?
What have I left so undefined?
Is there answer to my query?
Why do I shoulder this worry?
There may be a sin to confess,
a reason for my restlessness.
Within me is a wound, not healed,
a festering that will not yield.
If my concern is to find rest
I must subvert this constant test.
From this stirring there is no cease
no modicum of soothing peace.
I am a potter's vase of clay,
crumbling, fit to be thrown away.
I need more courage to withstand.
Help me, God, please offer Your hand.
I am not meant to be a speaker of truth
I am not meant to be the bearer of knowledge
in my words you will find no wisdom of the ages
nor the conscience of my generation
I cannot offer you transcendental enlightenment
the afterlife yet alludes me
Nirvana, Valhalla, Heaven
mere abstraction while I walk this earth
my insights
but meaningless sardonic rambling
no epiphanies
no sage advice
only a searching wanderer
destined to quest
for that elusive word
which someday may illuminate this aphotic life
and bring peace to my weary soul
Premium Member What Is Sensuality
It is a look….unhidden
A touch…..unbidden
It is desire…unveiled
Love and lust…exhaled
It is fantasy….released
Urges….appeased
It is passion…unbound
Euphoria…found
It is wishes….unashamed
Primal needs…untamed
Sensuality is supreme
The climax of a dream
The voice of arousal’s soul
The entwining that makes whole
The forever in the here
Exhibition without fear
Sensuality’s sultry kiss
Sexy Siren’s seductive bliss
All this and so much more
Is what lies for you in store
Then, what is sensuality?
Oh….Baby
Why, that is me!
It's when my smile alludes
and what my sway exudes
It's why my touch excites
and how my kiss ignites
It's when my voice enthralls
and how my body calls
It's what my lips evoke
and how my hips provoke
I'm seductive and demure
of victory I am sure
Sensuality is my name
To dominate is my game
Sensuality, is all me
Taste, and I'll set you free
