Best Against The Wind Poems
Against The Wind, My Reward Now
That was my time so long ago
my hat was always in the show
Running, ever against the wind
more enemies than ever friend
Remembering yesterdays so well
the hot nights deep into Hell
O' so many darlings kept me fed
never saw my life was so dead
Against that wind I did epic fail
sought water from an empty well
Applause rang out I never earn
those gifts I refused to spurn
Days, they have shifted now
found the light know not how
Water so fine, hide tide I roll
rock a foundation was my goal
This my time, my great new life
blessed with my son and my wife
Life came on, did not just end
lover and wife, are both my friend
No fear, running right on true
so blessed, not sure it was due
My firm stand against that wind
shall reward me until the very end
Robert J. Lindley, 01-08-2015
Note: Always been a big Bob Seger fan and his song,
Against The Wind, was my anthem for a twenty-five
year spread.. All that is over now. My ship sails
with me the master at the prow.
This is my dedication now.
My old life is dead, I take my new vow
My wife and family did renew me
Finally my chains broke and I am truly free.

When two people so choose
To join as one
The primary requirement is
Decide to love the beloved.
Then, as happens in love
Two become one in all things
Exclusive, self giving
especially sexually.
And in so doing
The love grows in togetherness
Open to children, raising them
A reward of their uniting.
But what now if the love fails?
Turns one sided and falters?
And the critical departure is decided?
To look for someone else?
And if it happens that the search ends
Upon someone willing and able.
To meet the need of the orher.
And join in erotic bliss?
The happiness newly found thrills
Brings warmth and excitement
Sends the heart a racing
Mind awhirl, body aquiver.
Deeper, wider, bolder, reckless
Necessity drives further coupling.
Drawn by the need for happiness.
Affirmation, complimentarity, libidinous.
But this new joining is filled with tension
Since the love struggles to grow.
And growing is strained.
For living together is amiss.
So the need to be closer
To grow together and love deeper
And go on up to the next level.
Of uniting even with childbirth.
The missing component is the limit
Of a love so good, so true
Bound to the beloved
Struggling to grow with the other.
A critical juncture is met
To continue with the limited but true
Or let go and return to the old
Loveless, drab, lonesome.
However, to let go is to die
And is not the way to go
It is far better to live with the limits
Than to die in the unlimited prison
Of knowing one could have loved deeply
But did not.

Who threw water on the wick?
Who, as restless and trapped
can survive in this necropolis?
Trumpeting down the walls
that are not of Jericho.
Trumpeting down the walls
that besiege a chthonic people.
Tonight I shall return as a black dove
to bring you an oak tree branch from Dodona
And a darkness full of lightning
all the way from the palace of Atropos.
So that you stay up all night
and knead
a bright sunshine for tomorrow.
"Good morning wind-vane",
to say when morning comes,
"where do the winds blow from today?"
And just like a white horse
to gallop against the wind.

Soldiers fight for their country,
they try to protect millions of people.
Again, nowadays slaves for no reason shooting enemies or brothers in the darkness.
They feel like heroes when they go, they feel empty when they come back, if they have that chance.
Injured souls forever, phoenix birds burnt in their ashes to finish.
Fighting agaist the wind, soldiers are. Whatever they do,
will never be the best.
The history of the humanity,
always the same story to write.
Why not send the leaders to fight each other?. I guess, there wouldn't be many wars.
Easy to send innocents to fight, while the big idiots talk about talking around the world.
Meanwhile, we are small fish
swimming in troubled waters,
food for big sharks to smile with big teeth for the whole world.
Against the wind we fight everyday, and all of a sudden,
somebody blows our life off.

Walking through the
cold city
A man seeks
warmth
All the stores are
closed now
The air is bitter and
the wind cuts him
like a knife
He walks down
a side street
stopping in front of
a large building
which cuts off the
wind
He yearns for
some hot coffee or coco
Persisting, he braves
the elements,
find his way to his place
Soon a kettle is
on the boil
and lights are shining
In the winter time of our souls
we must seek warmth
or perish

Concrete
A butterfly with wings frail
Rises heavenward against the wind
Witnessing life’s conflicting direction
Floating constantly upward
What chrysalis owned you?
How solitary is your world?
Alone each day
A silent, windless end
Fly, butterfly, fly!
Why accept this knowing
You can soar out of the rain
Into the sunny world
Of Love

I stumble as I move forward.
I cautiously attempt to turn around.
I am not sure if I am going away from or toward.
Uncertain of what direction I am bound.
Do I have to always move ahead?
Isn't it enough that I move at all?
I could lag far behind, instead.
Or I could just take a step and fall.
No matter what direction I take.
However I choose to get there.
Whatever move I choose to make.
I question myself, do I dare?
I have discovered, that what I do,
whether it is a blessing or a sin.
Is never easy, always an issue.
I am forever running against the wind.

It's Not
Flying a Kite season
Su n shi ne north breeze
Bundle up Hand freeze
Run against the wind
Kite slowly takes upward flight
I'm worn out will rest tonight
I think I may try once again
Maybe when its warm
in the spring
maybe
March
or
April
May
June
July
Anytime
But
when
Its
So
Very
Cold

Shape
Embracing indecision,
abandonment confronts you
My branches sharp and pointed,
my roots all buried deep
I pity your reluctance,
as the forest casts you lonely
A single tree in meadows vast
—alone against the wind

Riding in town, against the wind, windows open, a beautiful day
Clear skies and mountain views, along my traveled way
I think of many years in life, riding against the wind so strong
Making my way through things that happened to go wrong
I always kept on trying, as the years quickly passed
Thankful for everything I have, that continues to last
I can only do the best I can, with what my life deals me
I will always try at every hill and turn, against the wind to see
The scenes and precious moments, the good in life there is to be

The treasure inside of you
Must come out through the evolution of pressure!
Kites rise highest against the wind—not with it!
The gift of hope is in pressure!
Humans have the ability to cope
Holding on to the rope of certainty is a matter of faith!
Let your life not fear the wind of change
Because pressure will simply rearrange your character!
Kites rise highest against the wind—not with it!
Dark days reveal the fact that
Everything in life has a season!
Kites rise highest against the wind—not with it!
The gift of hope is in pressure!
Humans have the ability to cope
Holding on to the rope of certainty is a matter of faith!
Therefore, you can use pressure to rise above any situation
Because the treasure inside of you
Must come out through the evolution of pressure!

Drift Against The Wind
Fruit for the soul
The fountain empties into the stream
Roaring with majesty
Glorious is the water that runs deep
Into the spring and
Drift against the wind
With mighty angel wings
Stretched out gracing the sky
Like a kite taking
Its course upon the breeze
Following its lead

S-ail against the wind,
T-hough the weather is vile;
E-very wave rocks the boat,
P-ouring rain goes extra mile.
H-ave to sail against the wind,
A-s the sea seems so rough;
N-ot for a moment you let
Y-our heart faint, staying tough.
G-o sail against the wind
A-t dawn sixth October;
N-ever lose your resolve
E-ven if the storm gets stronger.
L-et your heart and soul keep the faith to win;
A-llow your ship to tread on, sail against the wind.

Acrostic
The three lightkeepers crept out into the wind
They knew time was precious
They gathered the wild flowers
The ones that would provide the most joy
The lighthouse watched with pride
urging them to be quick about it
hundreds of sailors depended upon their lights
they brought in the most optimism they could
The wind picked up, furious, eager to destroy
She was not happy about the three lightkeepers
She wanted to destroy them, to crush their hopes
To ruin their lives, but it was not to be
