ALWAYS MOTHERS DAY

I have borrowed the first line of this piece from the"unknown scribe" , which I
read many years ago.... The rest is for ALL the great mothers who are SOUPER.

Who took me from my cosy cot
And sat me on an ice cold pot .
To make me pee ,when I could not.......... My mother

Who fed me from the very start
With bosomed milk , straight from the heart
Then burped me, 'till I'd belch and fart...... My mother

Who warmed me from the Winter breeze
Dried the blood from my skinned knees
But told me "fibs" 'bout birds'n bees..........My mother

Who healed me when I had a chill
And nursery rhymed me Jack and Jill
But lied to Dad , about being on the pill...... My mother

Who coaxed me past the school day bell
Smiled and said .. all would be well
But then went home and cried like Hell.......My mother

Who was protector from life's curse
Was doctor , dentist , priest and nurse
Friendly Bank ,with open purse...................My mother

Who lies beneath this cold grey stone
In peace ,at last , and all alone
The first true love that I had known.................. Mam
                                                                                           x

Forever Loved

You could never be mad at me
Wise old man whom my heart could see
You were there when I needed you
Just a young child so full of life
Causing many an adult strife
If I lied you could see right through
You could never be mad at me
Wise old man whom my heart could see

Because of you I changed my ways
Have respect till my dying days
You were there when I needed you
If I lied you could see right through
You could never be mad at me
Wise old man whom my heart could see

TO DARREN - SOME STARS SHINE BRIGHTER

Listen to poem:
SOME STARS SHINE BRIGHTER Some stars shine brighter Some waves crash stronger Some winds blow warmer Some days are lovelier Some friendships are eternal... During our lives we meet a lot of people But some will conquer a special place in our hearts They'll be the ones for whom We'll fight a little harder We'll cry a little stronger We'll cheer a little louder We'll worry a lot over They are the ones That will always be there for you Laughing with your happiness Holding you during your tears Some are in the same city Others on a continent away The distance doesn't matter For we carry them always In our minds and in our hearts So they're never really far away from our thoughts So my dear and sweet friend Thank you for allowing me in your life For always be there for me Thanks for being my rock You've a heart of gold The most beautiful soul Your light shine thru your poems Your care and attention thru your words I'll be always here for you too Cheering for you every step of your way... Take care of yourself and come back to us fast... And... never forget... To just be yourself Because you're simply perfect Just the way you are... ...and very much loved, my dear friend... Love you, Darren March 28th, 2017

Thank You For This Bounty, God

Thank you for this bounty, God
that you give to me
for grain that grows within the field
and fruit upon the tree
Thank you for the little seeds
that in the spring are sown
and with your gifts of sun and rain
have through the summer grown
Thank you for the farmers, Lord
and bless them for their toil
as now they gather in the fall
this bounty from your soil

This was inspired by Brian Strands' Harvest Hymn Contest, which I unfortunately missed
but I wanted to share it with you today and dedicate it to Brian for the inspiration and
support he gives to us here at the Soup. RG

Ode to My Husband

Ode to My Husband
What a wonderful, magical surprise! Sometimes love arrives in disguise. I never saw this coming, never anticipated such an awesome blessing. I was at the right place, when I spied your sweet, handsome face. It was at the right time, calling your goddess was a sign and I knew you were mine. I had been a sad, little bird with no songs to sing, with only broken wings, working my way through some hurtful things.
But you came along, a real man, offering me strong, broad shoulders to lean on. It was a slow process getting back on track, but you willingly took the burden off my back. You showered me with loving attention, tenderness, kindness, and consideration. Nurturing and cherishing me each step of the way, you build my confidence and trust each day. Thank you for helping my fragile heart to mend; thank you for helping me become whole and to love again!

Lonely Dreams

I never knew following dreams could be this lonely,
But up on the hill, looking back, thank God I'm not the old me.
If the tears will fall, let them be;
I believe this is God's plan, follow your dreams.

You kissed him in front of me

You didn’t notice my tears.

As you both kissed each other
like two lonely plungers
who just escaped from plumber’s solitary confinement,
your eyes open and wander up.

You didn’t look across that banquet hall
with my feet planted against wood polished tendencies.

Its creaks motioning time towards yellow-signal identity.

As my breath declares sudden death
against lake’s dripping reflections…
…you didn’t think to set your photo album on private.

Advertising lust
wrapped in pretentious cloak
sewed in recycled fibers of “love”.

With ignorant enablers speaking chic-flick tongue,
“Oh My Gawd! I’m so happy for you! I wanna ovulate!”

As I, put my head down
returning to this moment in time,
I had to let my song…cry.

Lenny Williams begins to exude “cause I love you” chorus,
as I walk towards bar
sensing your seductive retinas
stroking against my Latin swagger.

Your ring finger
chained by 3 carat, naïve cut, diamond
motions an intense, streaking caress
against wine glass filled with Zinfandel sin.

Because you know I am your addiction.

Your diabetic lips never forgot
that taste
of my
brown
sugar.

But, you didn’t notice my tears.

I wish you had.

For all this time, these tears
were of joyful splendor.

Because solace holds my hand
with candlelight warmth.

Slow dancing with my soul
in mystery Salsa sway.

While you stand on home plate,
holding your 2nd place trophy,
with 3 strikes against you.

A reminder that my heart,
was flexible enough
to dodge
a bullet.

Sending Waves Touching Beautiful Always

She who sends waves touching beautiful warm and gracious words
Draws bright sunshine smiles in our hearts as they sing in her grace
Flowing from the heart her beauty held in her Quill ready to write
Pure diamond sparkling rainbows as a true friend is a friend in deed

The tidal wave raises fine soaked sand from the bottom of the ocean
And the waves curl out pearl white reflecting a most Picture Perfect
Image that is truly splendid and always sublime to behold and cherish
As Nature’s soft wind caresses your aura and inspires your next poem

She who sends these very waves touching beautiful personifies a Muse
So rare, so special—and brings her influence and talents to bear in
Masterfully supporting the efforts of fellow poets and dreamers as they
“Spill Ink” on blank pages late at night crafting their next poetic masterpiece

The very power and wonder of her good works and positive influence are
Always there magnificently arrayed like pure beams of sunshine touching
And dazzling all in her reach quite profoundly with the magic of her thoughts
And the quiet courage of her convictions as the simply wonderful poet she is

Thank You

Another beautiful day has come to a close putting on my royal blue silken pajamas I call to my sweet one come take hold of my outstretched hand. We bow our heads and thank Him. Lord thank you for another terrific day for allowing the sun to rise up and shine thank you for warm gentle breezes that allowed us to fly our kites bringing so many bubbly smiles on our children Thank you dear Lord for the flowing stream and the wildflowers we saw along the way in our hunt for frogs and turtles. Thank you Lord for the food that we ate and the air that we breathed. It was such an exhilarating day. Thank you Lord for all the joy you bring the song of love you allow me to sing Thank you for bringing into my life a most beautiful soul, for gorgeous and happy children, and for making our lives whole So much to be grateful for dear Lord but none of my humble words are ever enough to praise you. Dear Lord It's my time to beg now So dont go away just yet I beg you for forgiveness for any harm I might have caused to my sister, or my brother to my working colleagues or any other I beg forgivness for all the times I choose the pleasure of darkness over what is really the bright side of life. Dear Lord, make men better husbands and make me a good wife. Dear Lord I beg you let not envy, power, success nor selfishness steal the purpose of my living and of what is right. Make me a better person Lord Help me choose You as my guide Let me be a faitful being to those who are in burden Help me to do little things everyday little things that make a difference to those i love, and those who pass my way Let me be a lending ear Let my smile relieve some pain Let me be at least one colour of the rainbow in their loneliness, in tearful rain Dear lord may those I meet in every street recognize I am Your own, not from my words but from my kindred deeds Last but not least, fill my heart with blissful grace as I share this serene night with the one you chose for me the one who has the most angelic face. Together Lord we thank you

Come to harvest home

Come oh come to harvest home ye thankful!
Rouse thy tongue for thy barns, so big and bountiful;
All grains and gains safely gathered in with ease.
For thy plenteous portion, oh praise the prince of peace.

Come ye thankful who dwells in God’s own field.
Worship Him whose wealth and wisdom we wield;
In tears and sorrow, wheat and tares together sown,
But in harvest’s hour, in joy we reap wholesome wheat alone.

To thee oh God of harvest, we thankful will come,
With harps and hymns to Thy holy harvest home;
Singing with Thy holy angels on the street of gold,
Gladly bowing down to Thee, Thou shepherd of the fold.

Thanking a Hero

How can I thank you for saving our lives?
Because of you my whole family survives

My pups and I were surrounded by smoke
As you rushed through the door, we heard you choke

The flames you doused after pulling us out
My gratitude I offer, snout to snout

I see you have burn marks behind your cheek
I, too, have scars on my black coat once sleek

And as I gaze into your bright blue eyes
I’ve seen you before, I now realize

We’d been in front of the World Trade Center
My owner and I watched as you entered

A hero in every sense of the word
Your safety for others always deferred

And to think you’d risk your life once again
When fire victims were not even human

One Year Ago

Well, it has been one year since I joined Poetry Soup.
I smile now, because I have met this wonderfully diverse group.

August 7th, 2013 was a day that would change my life.
I finally found the place where I could express my cares and strife.

I know that I say this often, and yet it is still not enough.
Thank you all for bringing me happiness on days that were rough.

To Linda, The "Poet Destroyer" and her sister SKAT.
You both welcomed me warmly and I will never forget that.

To Chan Hurst, who is much more than "Just That Archaic Poet".
We will always be friends to the end, and you know it.

To Nature Boy, .... well ..... what more can I say?
You have helped and inspired me to blossom in every way.

To Gail Angel Doyle, Debbie Duncan, Cheryl Dunn, and Michael Clarke.
Thank you for knowing that good things can come from the dark.

To John "Jake" Posey, who mentioned Poetry Soup while on another site.
You were actually the first person to tell me that I could write.

To Isaiah Zerbst, with whom my first collaboration would be.
Thank you so much for seeing the poetic potential in me.

To Mustapha Mohammed, a true "partner-in-rhyme".
Thank you for allowing my poetry to take up some of your time.

To Peter and Vera Duggan, Liam McDaid and Carolyn D.
Your kindness and friendship always meant so much to me.

To Bindu Vijayan, Johnny Rhinem, Yasmin Khan and Becca L.
Thank you for truly understanding my words so well.

To Andrea Dietrich, Nette Onclaud, Debbie Guzzi and Giorgio A.V.
I truly appreciate the encouragement that you've given to me.

To F.J. Thomas, Mystic Rose, Richard L., and Anne-Lise A.
Meeting kind-hearted people like you has made me want to stay.

To Thomas Simunsen, Karen Anglesey, Dr, Ram Mehta and Drake E.
I think you have read almost every poem ever written by me.

To Matthew Anish, Charmaine C., Shadow H., and Dave Wood.
Thank you for making me smile more than anyone ever could.

To Robin Davis, Danesh Morgan, Roger H., Litan D., and Sara K.
I appreciate all of you visiting me nearly every single day.

To Christopher Thor Britt, Carrie C., Justin Bordner, and Craig C.
None of your written words have ever failed to inspire me.

To Casarah N., Robert Lindley, Paul Callus and Arthur V.
Thank you all for just being so friendly to me.

We all share a common passion through the writing of a poem.
I am so lucky to have found a place that feels like home.

There are many friends that I have met along the way.
So, thank you all for brightening up the last 365 days.

I WILL REMEMBER YOU

On a day
when words of wonder fail to come
to describe the beauty in what I see
when I am simply overcome
and my quill is kept still;
I will remember you -
that you believed in me
and were kind enough to express
that belief in such a beautiful way.

At a time
when the right words would not come
to give voice to a moment, a feeling
when uncertainty knocks
at the door of my heart;
I will remember you -
that you had faith in me
and were generous to provide
the warm wind for my soaring flight.

For now,
know of my sincerity
when I want to simply tell you
the words that won’t be kept inside.
From the warmth of my heart
to the purity of yours;
Thank You.

Andrea the POETESS

Three dozen Roses, Red ,Yellow and White
To show my affection for POETIC insight
Her Quilled POETRY : Inspirations; ignite
The Pen in my hand as I write through the night

When words from her Heart, in a new POEM appear
I read it twice over 'til message is clear
The image so vivid as Roses "Pure" White
My mind carries her words in Dreams through the night

I wake up refreshed, with a pen in my hand
Thank-YOU Andrea Dietrich; I now understand
I will shout to the World; throughout the whole land
With a feeble Tribute to make YOU feel Grand

As my pen tries to emulate YOUR Talented Quill

The Man in the Wilderness

Feeling like a lodger
In my own home
Thankful for my music
And my new found roam

Families and communities
They are just so hard to find
But in April 2009
I found the most precious kind

I found the name amusing
So the button i clicked on to see
The layout was very inviting
Like an open door should be

For in a matter of minutes
On first uploading a poem
This Highlander was content
He had found a welcome home

So many lovely writers
Poets who share their bless
No longer this Scotsman is
The Man in the Wilderness

H	e, by decree placed man above the rest
A	nd all other creations in his charge for keeping
N	ow and forever, let your truths be written in our hearts

The Whispered Song

The warrior lays her weary head,
With heavy heart she cannot bear,
Burning tears stream down her face,
As whispered memories touch the ear.

Her armour tarnished by remorse,
Her battle-cry a wimpered row,
Her wounds, of which bleed solitude,
Will never know forgiveness now.

The song began two score ago,
When two came knocking at her door,
In need of refuge from the world,
Of that, and love, and little more.

Forced to fight for every smile,
Her only solace found in song,
She longed for love to rescue her,
And plant her where she could belong.

Jealous tongues are seldom kind,
Self-seeking hearts know nought of love,
The caged canary only sings,
When coaxed to praise from up above.

For the steely spine that now I own,
Forever shall I grateful be,
A gift from her, and from her own.
Courage mounted inwardly.

I'll not forget how I have loved thee,
And youthful memories I will prize,
Til on the shore of His forgiveness,
Whereto now, we both shall rise.

AN ADDITIONAL REASON

With,

Each breath I take,

An

Additional reason, I find

For

Thee to thank, my Lord!

MY FOREVER FRIENDS - CASARAH AND TIM

Where would I be without Casarah and Tim?
Would I remain here or just leave on a whim
Usually first to make a comment on my latest write
Both commenting on people’s poems even late at night
They lift my spirits so much during a dark dark day
Join in the banter when my world's in disarray
Continue with the humour and post poems in reply
Make me laugh so much a tear forms in my eye
Incredible poets in their own right
Reading their poems is a sheer delight
Tim’s an incredible dad
Casarah an adoring mum
Little Abby one day a poet will become
Just want to say thank you to such loyal friends
Let us be here for each other so our friendship never ends

Love and Hugs to you both

POETRY SOUP HEROES FOR CONTEST

To single out special people on soup is such a hard task So many people have helped me, so it’s a really big ask I discovered on soup there is an angel without wings Her name is FJ Thomas and her praises I’ll gladly sing A month after I joined soup an e-mail appeared It said I was a ‘Premium Member’ it was so weird I contacted soup said a mistake has been made I’m a Premium Member … but I haven’t paid They said the donor of my gift didn’t wish to be named But I had no way to thank them, I felt so ashamed I wrote a thank you poem so that they would know Someone made it a favourite – but their name didn’t show I later learned it was FJ Thomas, but by then she’d left the site I wanted to make her proud of me, so I tried very hard to write I’d not written a poem for many years, not since I was at school Began writing when my hubby got cancer – a disease so cruel Flo’s gift to a complete stranger meant the whole world to me Writing became my lifeline I hope I’ve used her gift wisely ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since joining soup I began to collaborate You really should try it - it really is great Teamed up with a guy called Darren Watson His sense of humour was awesome oh boy we had some fun I was a complete beginner and Darren encouraged me Telling me how well I wrote and he loved my creativity We began to collaborate as Jadazzle United Our friendship blossomed, we were simply delighted E mails would fly and my self confidence soared With Darren around there was no time to be bored My world was shattered when dad was diagnosed with cancer Darren was there to comfort me, often with a witty answer Sadly Darren became ill and our writing came to an end I spent many many weeks trying to trace my lovely friend Contact was established with his family and after over a year I got an e mail from Darren, I was overjoyed to hear Darren’s positivity for the future gave my heart a lift Our friendship is so precious just like a priceless gift We’ve both had ups and downs in our lives recently We're writing together again and we’re as happy as can be Contest:- Poetry Soup Heroes Sponsor Catie Lindsey My Poetry Soup heros F J Thomas Darren Watson

My Chair of Support

My favourite chair
Said to me one night
Hey! Highlander
What you going to write

Is it going to be a fantasy
A Haiku or a Senyru
What ever comes from your thoughts
It's from the inner you

I have supported and rested
While you have written your writes
From many an afternoon
Into the early morning light

You never get frustrated
You just sit and ponder
For you know there are words
They are just out yonder

This partnership we have
Will remain as close as ever
Until the end of our days
Will be the time to sever

We will continue to be
One and the same
I to support you
With poetry your aim

My entry into Matt Caliri's contest " Speak chair! Speak! "

a Friend to the Wind even now

On a leaf I would write you a letter
and mail it into the wind
that's the chance I had in finding ,
my once in a lifetime friend.

But it landed right there beside you,
tangled in threads of your shawl,
with only your heartstrings to guide you,
you found me where dying dreams fall.

The Gypsy wind whispers a reason,
the where and the why and the how,
but I will remember that season........
I'm a friend to the wind
even now.
