Mommy, I do not want a backpack
I want a polka-dotted red knapsack
this annoyed Ted’s father, big Max
All kinds of conformity this child lacks
Knapsacks do not have zippers Ted said.
I don’t want a backpack, he yelled from his bed.
Little compartments are marvelous said Uncle Ed.
I will take a knapsack or nothing, screamed little Ted.
You have a problem, Grandma Martin said to Big Max.
He makes such a big deal about a backpack!
If it’s a knapsack he wants we can do that, Grandma Martin.
We only have a day and a half until he goes to kindergarten.
The universe lay at his feet
Sun brilliant o'erhead
The ocean stretches forever
Wheat fields before him spread
Armed with a diploma
and a backpack full of hope
Will his stride be bold ~
his handiwork produce gold
I throw it out then bring it back
A somewhat hoarder, I have that knack
I keep in mind the things I love
Then store them back within my hub
A sound of music a touch of scent
Allows nostalgia a place to vent
A memory made or thought perhaps lost
A junkyard backpack on my forward path
When on the surface I dig down deep
To find a memory within my fleet
The ones I pull have high impact
They keep my emotions right on track
Such days are downs until they’re ups
My conscience divulges outward puffs
From childhood reflections to adult recap
I reminisce from my junkyard backpack

I like to take day hikes
out in nature under a blue sky
among the shades of green
and I need very little
water
a snack
a camera
a diary to write
I like to go in spring when all is new
in summer when it is hot and sunny
oh but fall is the best
with all the burnt orange and rust
even the decay is beautiful
winter all bundled up is nice too
oh I forgot I bring bird seed
for my friends the birds
so you see I need very little
I travel light
for all I need really is within me
and before me
and beneath my feet

L-et Wednesday woes end,
L-et light Thursday start;
O-bliterate the doubt,
Y-our worries all
D-epart.
A-llow the sun to come,
R-ising above the horizon;
J-ust let the twilight fade,
A-s the dawn stops the
Y-awn.
O-ne backpack contains
R-ed rubber shoes, not scraps;
I-t's time to carry on your back
A-nother bag having two shoulder
S-traps.
Hold on tight
A journey begins
Not in the crowded city streets
A journey of high mountains
as close to heaven
that you think you can catch the stars
Pack your backpack with sad thoughts
Upwards ... the bag is heavy
I will hold you in your hand
Stop ... take a deep breath
Your journey has begun
Proud high mountains suddenly makes the backpack a little lighter
Follow your feet forward
The air is crisp and fresh
Even if you are tired
Lower your shoulders
I'll teach you to dance on the sparkling snow
Our goal is the top
The backpack feels lighter
Do not give up - we will reach our peak
Heavy thoughts erased
Abrasions and tired feet
Satisfaction - a major force
The goal is reached ... you won
Dance in the sparkling snow ... catch your star
The backpack is empty
The whole world is at your feet

You wore your heart pinned on your backpack
no concern for nobody, not even yourself
You saw nothing but shapeless clouds and colored glass
mistakes lie behind you and before you
all over your path
you took whatever came
rotten, second hand things
looked for happiness in every wrong place
but then it came and found you it sits in front of you with open arms
palms to the sky
love pouring out of every seam
nothing but help and hope to be given
while your eyes begin to brighten
they are no longer a storm, a saddened sky they are a smiling childs
your chapped lips quiver and body shakes
for the fear that builds and thoughts drown your mind,
you won’t be hurt again
I promise
these clouds become our future
endless and full of wonder
put down your backpack and surrender your heart, stop running
I’m here to hold you and stand beside you, have your hand in mine
you will never be alone again, never even cold
not again on the wrong path for happiness
for it is no longer at the bottom of a bag or bottle
it tickles and cuddles with snorts and giggles
my smile, your smile
like small children in love
forever pinned together
no plans laid
I always stray
the tickets paid
going one way
and decision made
no better not to stay
never to stop
walk, fly or a quick drop
I want to remain alive
neighborhood children
board the old yellow bus...
sad eyed dog walks home
