The Art of Acting
Step 1: Posture
Your posture is more important than you think.
The way you carry yourself can speak
Thoughts into the minds of others from miles away.
It can make them trust you more than they ever believed they would.
Step 2: Expressions
The expressions you portray can make those around you
Feel at ease or put them in a sense of discomfort.
If you do it well enough,
Even the toughest shells will crack.
Step 3: Actions
The actions you take can make the coldest gestures
Feel like the sun’s warmth in the dead of night.
If done correctly, the hardest pills to swallow
Can taste like the finest pastries
On a summer’s morning.
Step 4: Change
Every character needs a switch.
Some point in the plot
Where the intentions they once had, flip
And turn into a new goal for them to chase
Step 5: Endgame
Every story needs an ending.
Whether this ending is good or bad.
Whether it’s your desired outcome,
Or not.
Every story must end,
Even if you want it to keep going.
It’s the leading ****
Of the film!”

I knew I was watching
a hilarious take
on dating, marriage,
strain and tug,
separation,
planes stuck in sand,
the lovey-dovey,
seriously funny
jokes.
This isn’t funny.
You are having divorce
for dessert.
“Some sort of creature,
has just swum up my pants.”
Everything can be funny
and “all good questions.”
You won’t catch
me smiling,
hunting peacocks,
or doing anything
boringly Orthodox, or
unquietly silly.
“Ha! I’ve flown with you
twice, and you crashed
half the time.”
“Stop!”
Something is crawling
in your hair. “Stop!”
I got it. I love you!

in the finale of a love story.
i was left out of the script
of the comedy and
the tragedy
when Tom Hanks
was still funny (always)
and acting (still)).

Hanks
are too good
at acting
to watch their same
movie twice.
At ten til two, some lie awake,
Attending too sighs we ruminate;
Ten and two, love drives to where sunlight hides and waits,
Yet in pursuit, nights erode of what chance may make.
Amending truths our tomorrows wake,
And then the soon borrows the hours late.
Despite red moons raising tides like fate,
Attentive proof reminds of the coming breaks.
We can never know of what tomorrow craves.
Certainty can speak with gentle lips, for words to slate;
What more can 2026 be other than its falling flake?
Rationality adores the harvests they slickly take,
And arrogantly still, I feel tomorrow's grip ought to be sold a bit too late.
’Tis but another tomorrow that hides among many tricks, where ideas apprehend our stakes.
It’s with hope that follows the light that empties their mix, so plans can lessen the opaque.
While tending to sleep to grow the want to wake,
Let this be proof to find of what I may create; I can shape.
The new year is all but a day, and with love I plague every chance I’m given to make new mistakes,
And of the new choices yet to decay.
2026, I have hope for your ache.
Tonight sick Santa had to take off,
he has a bad case of whooping cough.
The reindeers are acting weird,
all are hungry and dog-eared.
Home for a hot bowl of beef stroganoff.
Unrepentant sinner acting lover,
Would remain cool until game is over.
A player up for next match...
Even before the first snatch
Off time against the end; comes reliever.
cobweb on corner
this fence is weirdly brand new
fast acting spider
When I look in the mirror each morning
This dude stands there sending me a warning
Smarten up there dude
Stop acting like a boob
Or a lump on the head you'll be adorning
The greatest teacher I have ever known
never worked in a classroom.
He was an actor and radio announcer of some renown.
A man of many talents, I'd assume.
He directed me once when I was acting in a play,
and he'd let me know - right away! -
if he didn't like the way I'd say
a certain line (sometimes to my dismay!)
He taught me the value of silence and being still.
Economy of movement was an important skill
that I needed to learn
and although he was not shrill in his criticism
he could be very stern,
never the kind to use witticism
to make a point.
Indeed, his best instructions were often unvoiced.
My performance in that comic play
turned out quite successfully,
and to this very day
it is still a fond memory.
In all my years in theatre
he gave to me the greatest education.
Eventually, I'd realize that under
his tutelage I learned much about dedication
to the craft of acting,
reacting and interacting.
I learned that it's all about communication,
and though he is long gone,
I remember him fondly, with great appreciation.

When the minister got angry
the employees cowered
in fear although they knew
It was just an act.
Effort is important in whatever you do
Knowing where to make an effort makes
All difference by consistent focus on
The result and things that's effective
Creating way for greater opportunities
When you thought you've seen it all
You've seen nothing until you've toured
The world meet with different people
with different cultures, attitude etc
Only then you'll know it is what it is,
isn't what it is until you dive in deeper
Never limit your mind by thinking or acting
From what they told you, until you've
Seek, know, practice, earn, live.
Friendships, wordy scripts, cameras, microphones and venue blips. Call security, no need to be shirty, let's go again.. scene five, take thirty. Action. Cut. Time for tea. The bar is closed but coffee's free. The waiting patiently never ends. We chat we laugh. We're making friends. The brushes flash across my brow.. my shirt is steamed no creases now. As runners jog and sound men lean. I've learned my lines, we're quite a team.. with birthday Sue and sooty Dave.. the risks we take favour the brave. It's all been worth the sweat and tears, a hundred props of seventeen years. With actors, crew and faithful few. The final shots to rave review. A shout hooray and rapturous clap.

AN ACTING LIFE
A young, shy boy enters stage left.
The date, November ‘fifty-three.
And, though you’d not believe it now,
That shy young man was me.
I hadn’t wanted to be there,
I was convinced that I’d fall flat.
I spoke my first line nervously.
The audience laughed – and that was that!
I was hooked in that moment of magic
And knew I had to have more.
I’ve played a hundred roles since then,
Shakespeare, Wilde and Shaw.
I’m afraid you won’t have heard of me;
Few people know my name.
My acting is only a hobby,
But it’s theatre all the same.
Of course I can’t go on for ever,
I’m reaching the end of the page.
And besides, there’s a limited number of parts
For men of a certain age.
