On the 4th of July

Today, they’ll fire up the grill
For burgers, hot dogs, ribs 
And hungry guests will gather ‘round
To point and claim first dibs.

I will not be among them,
Though I’ll not be too forlorn;
My husband mashed potatoes 
And made chicken and some corn.

At night there will be fireworks 
But we will not attend.

July in America in 2025, so exciting, to be in July, starting our month off with a bang. 
Lots of bangs from fireworks, people have already started to celebrate.

We used to celebrate the fourth of July with our cousins.
Barbecuing food, and attending the parade up town on the square.
Sometimes we decorated our bikes with streamers and rode in the parade.

The 4th of July celebrates the passage of Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.
Have the congress and the USA forgotten about that? Have individuals forgotten about that? Well, I personally feel that we should all go back and review it again and again.

It is the fourth of July
The sky is all lit up
With sparks across the sky
Freedom is what it's all about
A day to set aside
And have one big celebration
It's for our independence
That this country fought for
Every day there is a threat
From keeping our enemies away
From our doorstep
With hot dogs and hamburgers
Cooking away at the grill

Dusk
they flock
and see sparks
light up brilliant
colorful fireworks
in darkest dark ; red, white,
and blue as our star and strips
waves in the chill air arousing,

A 17 year old boy put a bunch of fireworks on his head.
The fuses were lit and when they exploded, he was dead.
His mother was angry and tried to have fireworks banned.
But there was something that his mother didn't understand.

A Sunny 4th of July

Sadly, I have been forsaken;
Every shady bench is taken.
Sunny spots are up for grabs.
I sit down while keeping tabs
On nearby seats which are in shade,
With odds against me, I’m afraid.

Still, there is a little breeze

I can hear the screams of happy children a block away from the square
It is the fourth of July, the only day we have a carnival in our town
The tilt-a-whirl and the Ferris wheel are in their usual places.
