Never would I have thought I would start writing at 73 years of age. I have thoroughly enjoyed my voyage into the written spirituality of poetry and am thankful for the opportunity.  In my seven years here I have met many new and wonderful persons. Having them accept me as a friend has been a moving experience.

True Beauty

Indian summer
the nuzzle of a fawn
as I doze

She stands, not defiantly
not with threats of maim.
She has trust and curiosity
as any babe would have.
She captured my heart
for one split second in time.
Then she was gone.

I was at my place upstate which has about six acres enclosed with a six foot chain link fence.  One lazy day I was sitting on the ground in the back yard soaking up the sun on an unusually warm spring day.  I felt something licking me behind my ear and knew it was not one of the cats with their rough tongue.  I very slowly opened my eyes and it was a small female deer, not quite grown but almost.  I suspected it to belong to my neighbor but have never found out for sure, and I have seen many outside of my fence.  She sensed my awareness and backed away just as if to say, "Well, it has been a nice visit, but now it is time to go," because she leaped twice and cleared the chain link fence some sixty feet away.  Have any you had a moving experience like this, with nature that you would like to tell about?

There is also some video out there that shows a woman on a beach as a sea otter snuggles up to her. He very slowly approaches and the video goes on for maybe fifteen min. as he creeps closer and closer to her . It's a fascinating portrayal of an animal getting so close with a human!!

I LOVE this kind of thing, having a pure interaction like this with nature. Here is mine: I was standing at my dear brother Dale's grave when a group of deer came out from the wooded area and stood watching us from nearby. They were so beautiful and they made me imagine it was dale's spirit there with them. I wrote a poem about it, I think a haiku but I can't remember the title I assigned it here at Soup. also I love when my pet cats or dogs seem to be showing me their unconditional love.

Charles, that was truly a beautiful experience, what a perfect memory to have, I have had hummingbirds land on my hand which is amazing as they are such nervous little birds, and in a nearby park, all you need to do is put some seed in your palm and birds will come to feed, it is so rewarding and a few times butterflies have found me, thank you so much for sharing your beauty with us ~

While peaceful alongside the Baptism River off Lake Superior, a Raven dropped from a tree to perch on my extended arm, it changed my life as I searched his soul (and he/she mine) through obsidian eyes...I wrote a poem here about it "The Raven of Baptism River" jimbo

Wow! A wonderful story, Charles, they tend to shy away from humans. I have never had the experience, but my husband has with an Elk while hunting.

Many times on 301 south just about the SC/Ga state line, at dusk we have seen whole herds of 20 ish or so, but usually is more like a family group of about 2 or 3 at a time. A good idea to reduce speed in those area, because they do cross in front of you at the very last second

Yes, is a shame but wonderful. We live on the fringe of the blue ridge mtn., some 50 miles away. They range but do have to cross major hi way at times, traveling when is darker, but before car lights come on.
