About Charles Henderson
(Click for Poet Info...)

Never would I have thought I would start writing at 73 years of age. I have thoroughly enjoyed my voyage into the written spirituality of poetry and am thankful for the opportunity.  In my seven years here I have met many new and wonderful persons. Having them accept me as a friend has been a moving experience.

Contest Winners and Bear String

Blog Posted by Charles Henderson: 5/3/2013 11:47:00 PM
Again, I want to thank all who participated in my haiku contest.  As promised, this blog has a string comprised of the poems of the winners, plus a few more.  Forgive me but I tweaked a couple to make the string be more coherent.

Along the Appalachian Trail

walking the Blue Ridge
along the Appalachian –
a hundred mile trek (Ray Dillard)

a dusty mountain --
around the trail’s sharp turn
a sea of treetops (Joann Grisetti)

as we walk
pots clink against canteens –
squirrels chatter (Deb Guzzi)

creaking wood
the thinned forest reclaims
log Cabins (Cyndi Macmillan)

old cabins among
trees gnarled by wailing winds --
the sound of a bear (Isaiah Zerbst)

trails of yesteryear,
a reflection of our youth --
now welcome water (Judy Konos)

long after midnight
he points out the big dipper...
grass for our pillows (Carrie Richards)

a torn sleeping bag
lies empty near the shelter. . .
the rank scent of bear (Andrea Dietrich)
